Women's football licences to be announced today- who gets in???

Just wondering.

A 6 2 biological male could wreck a lot of those young women in a game. Unfair advantage for one thing.

Transgender persons generally take hormones that reverse their natural levels and thus their male strength if you like. There is a thread on the main board that discusses this very testing.

Because not every prospective player can afford to trudge into the CBD for training a couple a times a week for chicken feed. Because it brings the games closer to more young fans. Because 3 clubs in such close proximity in the inner city for a new comp is ridiculous.
Clubs haven't been suburban based for at 25 years. They're all franchises now. Collingwood has fans all over Victoria, and Australia, as do the Saints.

The games will be televised, people from all over can see them. We don't know where the games themselves will be played, so its premature to judge the accessibility, but again, the G and Etihad, if that's what happens, are centrally located and convenient to public transport.

The player travel thing is a bit daft as well. You really want the licences allocated on the basis of saving potential players 30 mins in the car? If anything putting them in the CBD actually puts them closer to the biggest catchment of people. It's not particularly hard to get into the CBD and if they've got the level of desire required to try and make a go of it at the top level, they'll cope with that minor obstacle just fine.

Even with hormones they are still built differently and have a natural advantage of body development as a male up to a certain age.

Hormones also don't reverse height advantages if a great one exists.

Surely this wont work/ last. Once the dust settles after the league kicks off, we'l be left with a sub standard product that will be a drain on the AFL financially with pathetic crowds.

It might be 'progressive' but its got disaster written all over it

It's not? Are people allowed to play with Turbans in the men's game given potential safety concerns?

It's a question of safety really. Most sports prohibit anything that could potentially see people getting injured by inappropriate clothing.
Safety? How would it be unsafe?

Don't some Jewish blokes wear Kippahs while playing sports? (pardon my ignorance if that's not what they're called)

Given a lot of Geelong's dodgy dealings over the years why are you on such a high horse?
Such as? This isn't even about Geelong, St.Kilda are more worthy.

Are we going to see any greater height differentials than say, Caleb Daniels vs Mason Cox?

As for body development, the hormones negate and reverse some of that development apparently. I trust you have read Kirsti Miller's account?

Highly unsafe for getting fingers etc caught in loose materials.

Fingers get dislocated all the time when tackling those tight football jumpers they wear these days, loose clothing and the ability to get a finger or hand caught in anything like that could cause serious injury.

St Kilda aren't more worthy to the AFL obviously, it makes no sense to them having clubs spread wide apart at present because they realise people aren't going to travel great distances in great numbers to go watch the games.

It's apparent they are going to try and grow the game and it's popularity within a small by heavily frequented area first before they explore taking the market to further out areas.

Things that never make the media, Geelong's a small town when it comes to the carrying on of it's players, officials and cover ups.
So nothing. Scuttlebutt. Quick make a dank reference, most others do :drunk:

More than scuttlebutt. In this day of the oversensitive and litigious people you can't simply type a fact out even if it is true. BF doesn't like it.
So nothing. You've got nothing. Glad we cleared that up.

Yeah, it's bloody annoying when people make claims they can't back up isn't it?

If you say so :drunk:

Didn't go my way? I'm not fussed we didn't get it. Just annoyed the AFL's pet gets something.... Again. The saints should get a license. Just hope you give a nice bottle of wine to Mike for the favour just rendered :)

Never stood a chance once Carlton got on their knees like a pornstar.

Waverly closed partly because people didn't like traveling out there. You think women's football is so popular people are going to bother traveling any kind of great distance to go watch a game of it?
Waverly closed because the AFL sold it out from under St Kilda and Hawthorn who had long term lucrative contracts to play there.

That's partly who I had in mind.

6 2 biological male running through a 5 4 woman could end very badly.
Trust me, some of the 5'4 women running through anyone could end badly.

You really need to change your views on what women's football means in terms of toughness of the competitors.

I still think the AFL has rushed this and have stumbled on this with their normal pig headed arrogance. 6 teams would have been enough to start with. It would have cost less(and can pay the top end more), have more talented teams and better quality of play which would grow much quicker than this diluted version we have now. the wleague only have 9 teams, which have less players per team plus internationals. Netball 10?. 8 for a new league which doesnt have any history nor a solid base of talent will make for some ugly and poor quality players

if it helps kids play more sport, great. But i think having 2 of the bigger clubs in Victoria shows that the AFL wants this to be something it wont for quite a long long time, if at all ever.

And they ignored tassie again, so piss off with your national comp bull. we arent even connected to a club, like the NT are with Adelaide. i think GWS will steal what talent there is to help them(and they need it) but they are giving us nothing in return. not even one "home game". we dont deserve a team, but it would have been nice if the AFL forced a North to include us in their bid when they expanded it to 8, like what Adelaide have done to NT. heck, even get GWS down here once so the girls can get their mums and dads watching them and the local girls can do some clinics. if this was truly to grow the game, then perhaps the AFL need to look at a god damm map.

typical AFL NSW thinking. 8 poo teams and still bloody ignored.

Ok . . . so you're drawing a very long bow because you fear some Islamic women might play football at the highest level.

I'm guessing you're aware that some Islamic women already play football? Since you seem more concerned about "safety" than the people they play against I"ll end this conversation here.

Touched by your concern for the women mate.

So to recap, women being encouraged to play sport is a bad idea because it might result in them getting hurt by a transgender woman, or because they might be wearing a hijab and someone might get hurt by that.

We probably shouldn't let them drive cars either because they might have their period and be unable to drive safely.

What other long bow examples of how women might get hurt by doing activities they like doing can we come up with to tell them how to live their life?

I don't really. I'm basing it on what i've seen and experienced.

What you consider tough against other women isn't comparable to playing against males. I've been around women's Gaelic footballers/Camogie players for 15 years as a club mate and spectator.

They cannot take hits from men like they do from women.
