Worsfold - very impressive and forthright

He spoke very well tonight, answered the questions very honestly and answered some good questions form the panel in a forthright manner.

A good operator - that is why they are the reigning premiers!

Very impressive, Woosha :thumbsu:

I reckon he said more than we expected and that he would normally want to, but probably only gave us about 10% of the real situation at that club over the past 6 months.

Refreshing to hear an AFL coach talk openly and freely about issues impacting their club. No hiding behind scripted statements or trying to diffuse it by deflecting blame. Did himself and the club proud.

Not sure if we would get the same honesty out of a Malthouse or Sheedy or other coaches of their era

Worsfold was outstanding.
No wonder they are so successfull with him running the show.
Don't think I have ever heard a coach handle himself as well.
As for Cousins doesn't sound good at all.
Far worse then I expected.

Pfft, all spin.

"we have been working on this for 6 months".

Uh huh, and so now - just as Andrew Rule releases the dirt and the pressure on WCE becomes unbearable - now they decide to take action on Cousins??. What an amazing coincidence.

What were they doing for 6 mnths, exactly? Spanking him with a feather or taking turns turning each blind eye?

If the media pressure hadnt risen on WCE as it has done over the past month Cousins would be playing round 1.

Spin Spin Spin.

Impressively I'm watching it now, and as has been impressively previously said I am impressed.

Good insight to the predicament that the Weagles face. Although it would not be the whole story, it is probably the closest that we would get, and gives us a stark warning of what could be going on in our own clubs (although maybe not on the scale, but maybe...). Well done Woosha.

I'd agree it was quite impressive and forthright.

Two areas that he was a little inconsistent on - perhaps people in Perth/QLD/NSW can watch it and confirm. Just nitpicky stuff which may or may not be anything. Wish I'd recorded it now - anyone have some audio?

1. He stated that he doesn't know names of players who return positive drug tests (as per AFL policy). Did he later imply that he knew which WCE players had returned positive tests ? I should have noted it - there was definitely some word subtlety used.

2. He stated the Cousins problems dates back to July - when he became aware of it - after Cousins didn't turn up for the Monday training session. He stated the club had been counseling Cousins regarding substances since that time. He later stated the club had been concerned about drug use for 6 months (which takes it to October). The question then is - what triggered October counseling? was there an event which triggered it?

Overall impressive, well said and well answered. Loved his smooth shuffle around the Embley/Chick punch on - "forgot to wear gloves". Loved his smooth little step around the fact the West Australian didn't publish anything on the Monday/Tuesday post Andrew Rules article. He also basically confirmed that Chick is someone the club believes may have a substance use problem. I'm not sure if Worsfold said it - but it's been said a number of times "Cousins has the strongest mind I know - he'll get through". Clearly the drugs have been stronger then his mind - or we wouldn't be writing this.

He does raise a very valid point - if a player is performing on field and doing everything right in the club environment - what action can the club take if rumors circulate about him?

I beleive the woosha did a very good job but without doubt the worst interview conducted.

The interviewer generally is meant to play devil advocote challanging everything every thing the person is saying, where as the TFS let woosha say anything he wanted for half an hour occasionally making statements towards him, not questions, statements.

I have a newfound respect for the man.

Always thought he was an arrogant prick, but now i can see he's very caring and eloquent, and truly cares about the club and its players.

good on ya woosha!

Yet no one thought of questioning why Fletcher nearly died?

If Cousins was counselled mid las year, how can Gooding claim that the club only became aware of the (drug) issue in the last few days?

A club has a fair idea what is happening off field. You can discipline a player for missing training.

Simple fact is that WCE were aware of issues dating back to Judge's tenure and chose to ignore them because it was deemed not to be in their self interest.
