Worsfold - very impressive and forthright

I'm glad there's a thread on this....

I've been watching footy for many years - and I can't ever remember being more impressed by anyone....as I was by Woosha tonight.

He was as honest and forthcoming as anyone has ever been.

Good luck to him....he doesn't deserve this tarnishing his image.

fantastic effort Woosha.....:thumbsu:

Yet no one thought of questioning why Fletcher nearly died?

If Cousins was counselled mid las year, how can Gooding claim that the club only became aware of the (drug) issue in the last few days?

A club has a fair idea what is happening off field. You can discipline a player for missing training.

Simple fact is that WCE were aware of issues dating back to Judge's tenure and chose to ignore them because it was deemed not to be in their self interest.
Did you watch the interview?
While its not affecting performance on match day or at training the club can not act on rumors.
If it does affect perfomance, the club still can't act on rumors but they can act on the drop performance.
Without defintive proof there is very litte the club can do.

At least we didn't get Dalton bloody Gooding to say anything.

Agreed, he's eyes move too much.

Woah! Woosha's very valid point is - What do you do if you get told there are rumours about certain players - yet they are fulfilling all their obligations and performing at the level expected of them? You question them - they answer "No - everything's fine". What's next with the AFL's current drug testing and iinformation regime? Nada.

The fact is that this problem happened whilst he was coach.
The problem was well known to the people on this board; not only with Cousins, but the club as a whole.

Worsfold & WCE chose to ignore the problem in their own self interest.

If Woosha was as good as his word Chick would have been disciplined as well.
But what happens; nothing.

Thats not a fact, thats your opinion.

Clearly if Cousins is not training he is not fulfilling his obligations.
WCE know why that is.

Very interesting and forthright interview.

Most compelling comment was that the club board by asking the AFL to target test certain players has suspicions of drug use by 5 players, 3 of whom were at training and the other 2 who were not on Monday.

Rumors. Crikey Cuzz was subject to adverse public comment by the WA Deputy Police Commissioner on two occassions. It all happened on his watch. Arse covering time

i thought it was rivetting viewing. one bloke on national tv with only his wits to defend him and he came through with flying colours. don't forget the fact that he could have chosen not to appear and left it up to someone else to make statements but instead appeared live to face the music. top effort

BBBZZZZZZZZZ

INCORRECT !

push rewind on your VHS......this problem began while he was coaching in Melbourne and on his return he tried to stamp it out but was lied to by addicted footballers

a thread for the gullible , naive and eagles supporters with their heads in the sand and arses in the air.

its bewdifool.

i repeat ... no Andrew Rule article, no cousins suspension.

Some other things to come out of it...

- Woosha started hearing rumours about WCE players and drugs while at Carlton. Heard more about it on returning as senior coach. Confronted players then who told him they don't take drugs "but we're not angels". He said that "we're not angels" stuck in his mind, wondering what that meant.
- Later confirmed he had been lied to by players when he confronted them about whether they were involved in drugs, including Cousins. Asked about how he could then trust Ben, when he returns, he said its a difficult thing but that is what they would do.
- Until July last year, Cousins' drug problem (implying that it had started before then) hadn't affected his ability to train / play.
- Mentioned lies told to him by players (definitely said playerS) who had left the club.
- Received numerous anonymous phone calls from people telling him about players' drug use.
- Said one player had arrived at training under the influence of drugs.
- Talked about the difficulties he felt in trying to counsel players in their private lives. Said how much he wanted to help them but really it is not his area of expertise. Said he'd like to know AFL's out-of-season drug test results in the hope that he would be able to help the player.
- Two players were not at training for their drug test on Monday but did it later.

Just did that from memory...so can't guarantee it is 100% but that's how I heard it.

Correct, but what is most startling is that Worsfold eluded to the fact that the board asked for targeted testing and that they felt 5 players warranted being tested.

If anyone thinks this is just limited to Cousins & Chick at West Coast they are kidding themselves.

absolutely. it was a difficult decision to suspend cousins after trying so hard over the last 6 months to convince him that he needed professional help. Like he said, without proof, without a positive drug test there is nothing he can do.

Finally he missed another training session woosha knew it was his chance to act. This was the only way under the drug testing rules that he could force the issue and force cuzz to deal with the issue.

Thanks to Bryan courageously and publicly announcing the problem today, Woosha was finally able to talk openly and honestly about it.

Hopefully Ben will be fianlly be able to admit to it publicly and then sort it out.
