Worst captain in the league?

I assume we are talking Leadership qualities not playing abilities?

As far as leadership goes, in an on field and media based capacity it would have been Kane Johnson by an absolute mile. Nowdays I'm not sure, it's tempting to say Newman or Maxwell because part of being a good captain is lifting your team by performance, but for a smokey I'll say Brad Johnson. That's based purely on 2008 of course but I think he should give it up same way Tredders did.

As a player Nick Maxwell by a street.

R1 2008... Dogs 3 goals down with minutes to play, Johhno kicks 3 in a row..Dogs win. Not only was it one of the best "captains" games I have ever seen, it marked his 300th. If that's the worst captain in the comp we need to do a StKilda and nominate a truckload of skippers.

hooroo.

nick maxwell has to be the worst captain
collingwood must have picked because of things he does around the club because on the ground i dont think he leads the team aswell some of collingwoods other players. i think his ability to play footy is overrated, not very inspiring and only plays well on the third or fourth forward. not a good choice for collingwood, i dont think anyway

Tigers have had this mantle for a while (Kane Johnson era)

Nope - try again. Here's a clue:

Important point there being round 1. That was probably his best game of the season, the rest of the season he did showed little leadership and in the end it may have cost the Dogs a GF berth.

Also two can play at the 'match winner for 1 game = gun captain' game: R16 2008... St Kilda have pegged back the margin against the eventual premiers Hawthorn but some dodgy free kicks and a couple goals have given the run of play to the Hawks. Enter 'GIVEITTO' Jason Blake, he kicks 3 goals, Saints win. Blake for captaincy :thumbsu:

And this coming from someone who thinks Lloyd was an inspired choice.

Poor old Essendon supporters. They've never forgiven Vandenberg for making a stand against their thuggery and turning the tables on them. Essendon have been no match for the Hawks, or a lot of other clubs since Vandenberg called their bluff.

Vandenberg was a great captain of the Hawthorn Football Club and I pity all the fools out there who cannot appreciate what a great job he did.

Although we thumped Hawthorn that very day and beat 'em the next time we played them. V'berg was garbage and everyone knows it.

...lol..ok..

Has to be Chris Judd. The guy walks out on a club when they need him the most, the becomes captain of another club after saying he didn't want it. He's only interested in himself, not whats best for the club. And don't tell me he became captain because it was what was best for the club. I'm sure there's other players at carlton that could have captained them to the bottom eight again.

And for all those bagging Nick Maxwell before he even captains the club, i'll look forward to watching you crawl back under the rock you crawled out of at seasons end.

I think he is consistent in what he does. Haven't really noticed any prolific games.

Are you suggesting he will play better and be overall better at seasons end because he is captain? Or just because he will get better over time?

Lotch: I'm not saying he's going to be the greatest captain that's ever taken to the field, but Nick is a very solid contributer. All these people who knock him on this site have probably never watched a collingwood game without taking their "i hate collingwood" glasses off. I think he's the obvious choice (Pendles is still a bit young) as captain- tough-fearless-does his job week-in week-out, and if you ask any Pie fan they will tell you the guy bleeds black&white. And he doesn't need to step up or improve his game, he got the job doing what he already does. Now with the extra spotlight on him i hope all football fans will see what we see in Nick every week.

Yeah I totally agree.

He is a consistent player for your squad and obviously contributes off the field as well.

I actually don't think anybody can fully judge each and every captain without being miss informed or biased.
