I was just wondering peoples thoughts on the worst trades ever, it can either be just bad trading of players or trading a young player who turns out to be a gun for a player who turn out terrible.

I remember Andrew mcleod going to Adelaide from Fremantle for Chris Groom.

Remember it is not trade ideas must be actual trades

another fremantle one

trading away their number 1 pick for trent croad and luke mcpharlin when they could have used that pick to get chris judd or luke hodge

what were they thinking? just one of a number of decisions that tippify fremantle as the worst club in the comp

Tarrant for pick 8 + Medhurst turned out to be well in our favour.

Fremantle again. Geez. They're probably the worst traders in the AFL.

Worst trade ever?

That's easy. Pick 16 and 46 for Stephen O'Reilly who played 12 games for you. AND you had to pay him illegally outside the cap. AND he blew the whistle on you. AND you had to pay a fine. AND you got kicked out of the draft and had to recruit hacks. AND it meant that your mulit-million investment in Denis Pagan was a waste because he had no players.

Stephen O'Reilly for - Pick 16, pick 46, $1m fine, pick 1, 2, 17 and 33 in the 2003 draft, pick 1 in the 2003 PSD, 1st and 2nd round picks in the 2004 draft.

I reckon that would have the McMahon trade covered by a couple of laps of Flemington, then a trip down the highway for a run round Caulfield, before a backtrack to run the length of the Moone Valley straight.

End thread?

Why? Medders was hardly a star this year and we wouldn't trade for him with Tarrant at the moment.

Reid is a non-factor, not that pie fan's would admit it.

Just before Fitzroy died, they were being regularly screwed by other clubs.

The worst was when the Lions lost Paul Broderick, Michael Gale and Matthew Dundas to Richmond and only got Jeff Hogg in return.

Since then the Dockers have made the most nominations for "worst trade ever". Picks 3, 19 and Adam McPhee for Des Headland was always going to be a shocker.

i was looking for that one, appalling

i found one more that i quite liked cause its collingwood getting screwed.

Collingwood get Chad Morrison

WCE get pick 37 which ends up as M.LeCras

1994 - Todd Ridley, Tony Delaney and Dale Kickett for Freo's Compensatory #1 pick Matthew Lloyd

Essendon gain
Pick 1 Matthew Lloyd
Pick 4 Scott Lucas

Essendon Lose
Todd Ridley
Tony Delaney
Dale Kickett

as an affront to all trades - or just trades done because the clubs wanted to be involved in trade week

the brett chalmers (adelaide) ian downsborough (port) was a nil all draw
ben nelson and somebody to adelaide for andrew eccles and david gallagher was also quite entertaining.

Can anyone remember the specifics of the legendary Veale deal?
Yeah the Hawks traded Lochlan Veale (who was delist material) to the Dogs, in return for Danny Jacobs from the Dons, who gave pick 6 to the Dogs in return for Mark Alvey. Hawthorn gave their word to the Dogs that they wouldn't trade Rawlings to the Roos, allowing the Dogs to snare him in the PSD against his will.

Essentially the trade was:

Hawks receive: Danny Jacobs
Hawks lose: Rawlings, Veale

Essendon recieve: Pick 6, Mark Alvey
Essendon lose: Danny Jacobs

Dogs recieve: Rawlings, Veale
Dogs lose: Pick 6 (which they got from the Nath Brown trade), Alvey

Pick 6 was used to get Kepler Bradlol.
