Nobody Rate Silvan This Year?

I certainly do rate Silvan, it's just that they've lost a couple and Upwey have added some quality. (Silvan are probably quite happy with the focus being shifted onto someone else). Monbulk have a couple returning which can only make them them stronger. As a bit of a side issue, will Upwey come under as much scrutiny for spending as Silvan did? I'm sure that Porter, Sheers et al don't come cheap.

Who is everyones tips for the flag?

1. Upwey - haven't won in 10 years. This will be the year.
2. Monbulk - recruited well. Will go close.
3. Woori - always thereabouts
4. Healesville - may have peaked last year
5. Silvan - 22 wins in a row. Look to have lost a few.

6. Mt. Evelyn - often look good at this time of the year
7. Gembrook - will improve greatly on last year
8. Warburton - might struggle
9. Alexandra - a big step up, but may win a few at home
10. Wandin - haven't played in second division since 1989

1- Upwey... to many top line players

4- Woori..... good team but on way down...
5- Mt Eve... good players improved team

Sad to hear that Aussie Jones wont be playing for Gembrook after all (according to the HS), we were all looking forward to seeing him in action again.

Gee, Silvan must be stoked. Haven't lost a game for a year and a half (probably 2-3 years since they went down at home too), lost some but gained a couple of guns from 1st divy EFL and the WAFL, and barely rate a mention! Somehow they've snuck under the radar. Hoping like most they don't get up, but surely they've still gotta be favourites for the flag!

Not happy campers this year. See how they are going when no one gets paid.:cool::cool:

They have a long list of players leaving the club and the dont seem to have the aura surrounding them as they have previous year\s, if you get what i'm saying?

Looks as though Monbulk has had enough of Sportingpulse and all the advertisements. Any other clubs thinking of getting their websites hosted elsewhere?

Upwey - big time recruiting session - wonder if East ringwood still can field a side
Silvan - simply too many ggod players
Monbulk - always competitive
Mt Ev - will surprise a few

and the rest will wallow around below
Who is the biggest recruit to hit the yarra valley this year?
Daniel Sheers from East to Upwey maybe - can jump over a small mountain in a single bound.

Silvan beat Mt Evelyn by 10 points after trailing all day. Moorcroft kicked a few...Haynes didn't turn up, apparently was at a wedding.

Olinda kick 36 goals and win by 26; Alex kick 3 goals and lose by 28. Is the gap between 1st and 2nd division that wide?

The best 4 teams in 1st Div are at least that far ahead of Div 2.

Div 1 teams have 14-16 players with a few younger/inexperienced / not up to it really players to make the rest of the team up

Div 2 teams have a solid 8-10 players and the rest are the above. Makes a huge difference from what I have seen.

Still a vast gap, but to be fair, Alex had virtually no pre-season and it showed. It will take at least 5 games to get used to the pace, system and tackling. They are much better than the scores indicate.

The usual early season trauma with the U18's draw causes untold damage when clubs pull their sides out at the last minute.
This year was no exception, but it looks to have been very cleverly handled by the league by combining both divisions and matching the byes across the draws. A good outcome for the kids as well as the clubs, I reckon.
PS, bring on the lighting so we can see the kids on Sat nights!

Their 2's (Alex) lost by 8 goals and Upwey's won by 20. Upwey also had 17 players who couldn't get a game due to excess numbers. No matter how much you try to gloss it over, Alex plainly will not be up to 1 st division. Having said that, whoever wins 2nd division this year will be in the same boat in 2010. As the salary cap no longer exists, the stronger clubs (read more financial) will dominate. I would love to see what every club's total player payments are for this season and I'm tipping that it would reflect the ladder positions at the end of the season.

To me their reserves were by far more competitive than say Olinda, woori & some others that have played 1st divi the last couple of years. Lets not prejudge, lets see.
17 miss out that a big change - last year spanna was tearing his hair out at stages trying to field a side - times change fast in footy.

Spot on Cagga. Over 70 players ran out for the Upwey 2's last year. Would hate to have seen some of Spanna's phone bills from phone calls and text messages sent out on Thursday nights. Very different this year, but it's still early and injuries always mount at some stage so we'll see how we go. Bloody tough job for the coaches, but a much better problem than too few.

Interesting finish at Warburton on Saturday, with the scoreboard showing Warby 15.14 v Gembrook 15.15 at the finish. The goal umpires didn't agree with that (or with each other!) and it took ten minutes or so to establish that the correct scores were Warby 15.15 v Gembrook 15.14. It was an excellent game, and both clubs should do OK this season. The scoreboard at Warburton has been prone to inaccuracy over the last few years. It is hard to imagine such a thing happening at Monbulk (never wrong), Gembrook (since they installed the electronic board) or Healesville.
