Great article on the legendary Scott's from OFCFC in last week's Weekly Times written by Ken Piesse; The boys deserve all the plaudits they get - well done!

WHEN it comes to winning club championships, brothers Mick and Tim Scott have an imposing record that may well be unsurpassed, especially in the past two decades.

Together, they have won 13 club best-and-fairests at Olinda-Ferny Creek Football Club, including 11 in a row from 1995 to 2005.

They are still active, too, 39-year-old Mick as the Bloods' senior coach and reserves rover and 34-year-old Tim as club secretary.

"We've always loved sport, footy and cricket and were always doing one or the other," Tim said.

"We followed in the footsteps of our big brother Steve.

"He was a cricketer, really, but he also played 200 or so games with the club in the seniors and reserves. All three of us are life members."

Except for brief times away, Mick with the Carlton under-19s and Tim at Springvale, the pair have played almost all their football in the Yarra Valley Mountain District league.

Mick was a member of both the 1988 and 2005 premiership teams, while Tim played in 2005.

Both have been regular representative players, too, Tim captaining Yarra Valley in 2001, having previously led the under-18s in 1993.

Tim said one of the strengths of the club had been the presence, since 2006, of the netballing girls.

"They bring so much to our club environment," Tim said.

"Having the girls on board is the best thing that has happened to us. Other clubs say the same thing too.

"Olinda wear a variation of the old South Melbourne jumpers and are keen to jump back into first division of the league, having been relegated last year.

"We're looking to be competitive and give kids a game of football.

"The times are tough for many of us but Saturday is always a joy to see so many people around the place supporting and involved.

"We were luckier than most with the bushfires, so having the opportunity to resume footy again brings a normality back into all our lives, which is so important."

Olinda-Ferny Creek is again being led by reigning competition best-and-fairest Scott Tregoning.

Among the former star juniors back at the club for the opening rounds are James Reid, Ben O'Neill and the Stevens brothers.

"We're promoting kids and developing from within our own backyard," Tim said.

"We are a very young list in both netball and football and will continue in this manner to help sustain us deep into this century."

More OFCFNC News from the clubs website. Interesting to note that they have received over 50,000 hits which is an unbelievable effort - certainly demonstrates the power of the Internet, especially if a club is prepared to manage their Internet site as well as the Bloods do and it certainly makes the club look very professional in the way they operate.

One of our budding young stars has been making a name for himself in recent weeks. 1st year U18, Declan Fitzgerald made the final list at Eastern Ranges in the TAC Cup. Not satisfied with just making the list, Declan was picked to make his debut against the Sandringham Dragons a few weeks back and aquitted himself well. He followed this up with a terrific performance the next match to named in the Ranges Best Players for the day.

Declan is not the 1st Olinda footballer to make an Eastern Ranges squad but he follows only in the footsteps of the mercurial Steve Willoughby, as the only players to actually play TAC Cup matches from our club.

Congratulations to Declan ! Whilst we would love to see you dashing around the ground in our senior side, we hope that this is start of bigger and better things for you and that one day we see you running around at the elite level.

Yarra Junction FC news. Well done to the Eagles on their website this year - a great impovement and certainly demonstrates the improvement the club is making both on and off field.

Monbulk FNC Round 2 Review from Anzac Day;

The first home game of the 2009 season saw us take on traditional Anzac Day rival Upwey-Tecoma. Unfortunately for the Hawks, it was the Tigers who took the honours in all 5 matches.

The Under 18's toiled hard but ultimately fell 16 points short of Upwey. Kallen Seamer kicked two and the rest of the goals were shared by Andrew James, Anthony Ryan, Dylan Oats, Dylan Werts, Lachlan Henwood, and Tim Whitehead. Sam Whittington, Joshua Boyd, Lachlan Henwood, Max Weickhardt, Tim Whitehead, and Kallen Seamer were the best players.

The reserves were restricted to 5 goals but apart from a poor first quarter went toe to toe with the Upwey side. Shaun Lucas kicked two with Jake Sands, Tim Greaves, and Paul Bartlett getting a goal each. Michael Coen, Justin Creed, Shaun Lucas, Jarrod O'Neill-Akker, Jacob Fleming, and Paul Bartlett were the best players.

The seniors were overrun in the last quarter where Upwey handled the gloomy conditions better to record a 29 point victory. Tim Wragg brought up the season tally to a dozen with 4; Dean Cleven got 2 goals with singles to Vin Dunstan, Luke McCormick, Vin Dunstan, Mark Mullinder, Shannon Koole. The best players for the Hawks were Jared Devers, Billie Hicken, Ryan Mitchell, David Taylor, Shannon Koole, and Dean Cleven.

The A & B Grade netballers also were beaten . In A Grade Upwey won easily by 28. Rebecca Mccormick, Lisa Boyle, Jamie Sands, Emma Mullinder were the best players, whilst in B Grade Upwey prevailed by 16. Beat players for the Hawks were Rachael Jennings, Karen Calcagno, Kim White, Gemma Pearson.

Even though we came away with none of the spoils, the day was a good one with the game well supported by the community and the great respect shown to the ANZAC spirit and ethos was truly remarkable.

We travel to Mt Evelyn this week to take on the Rovers and will expect a tough match as always.

Get there and support the guys and girls and hopefully we can get back on the winning road.

Regards
Hawkeye

What on earth is happening down at Belgrave? From a mid-ranking First Division club four years ago to a Second Division grand finalist two years ago to what looks to be wooden-spooners this year. The new jumpers aren't working at all.

What is going on at Yarra Glen? They looked like a club on the rise over the last couple of years and could even have won the flag last year if things had gone their way. Now they've been thumped three weeks in a row - today by Powelltown. Congratulations to Powelltown, but Yarra Glen look gone this year.

What's the story at Olinda? Wooden spooners in First Division in 2004, 07, 08, but put them in Second Division and they look unbeatable. Is the gap between the divisions that great, or have Olinda improved this year to the extent that they would have been finals contenders in the top division?

I posed the question a couple of weeks ago about the gap between 1st & 2nd division. Olinda seconds, have, to put it mildly, really struggled in 1st division over the last couple of seasons. As have their 1sts. Today their seconds won by the best part of 20 goals. Aggregate scores from 1sts, 2nds & U/18's: Olinda 83.51 v Belgrave 12.4. Having said that, Olinda do have a young list (I went and watched them today) and would still be bottom 4 in 1st division.

You must be joking. They must use the some person who counts the memberships at Hawthorn. With pictures of tee pees, pizza slices and cartoon caricatures it looks like it's a primary school project.

The league records proclamation that "Mount Evelyn is the real deal!" is a bit rich isn't it? 2 games in with a loss to Silvan and a thumping of the wooden spoon favourites hardly suggested they had become world beaters. Now a loss to Monbulk at home to back it up suggests they are not quite there yet. Not blaming the Mounties here either, as I understand they don't write the articles, but suggesting they were capable of going "all the way" after two rounds with mixed performances was a little premature of Wazza. Might have to re-evaluate after the results on the weekend.

Perhaps Wazza should have directed his praise at Healesville, who after the weekend, will jump up in terms of premiership chances. The first team in 20+ weeks to knock the cats off is a fair effort from a side with plenty of youngsters. Will be very interseting to see their form in the next few weeks. The game between the Mounties and the Bloods in a fortnight should reveal a lot about where both teams stand.

As for Wandin, their season is basically gone already. Grayling must have been physically sick when he saw the draw with the first 4 games against Healsville, Woori, Upwey and Monbulk. Terrible draw, to start with and a long season ahead for the boys at the kennel.

The Rovers are a quality side, in spite of the margin and I guess they would have been flattered by Wazza. (Still, Wazza is a journo and it makes good copy). Mt Ev did kick 7 in the last, so I don't think they are that over-rated. Monbulk's 2nd & 3rd quarters were as good as they have produced in the last couple of years. Mt E are genuine finals chances if they keep it together.
Not only has their team improved; some maintenance on the club culture is making them a far better unit. They really 'get' valley footy now. Good on 'em.
As for Healesville, they hid their light under the proverbial bushel before the season. Now the real stuff is on they have made an impressive start! It looks like the top 4 or 5 will again be well ahead of the rest.

What's the story at Olinda? Wooden spooners in First Division in 2004, 07, 08, but put them in Second Division and they look unbeatable. Is the gap between the divisions that great, or have Olinda improved this year to the extent that they would have been finals contenders in the top division?

I don't think we can generalise on this the difference between 1st & 2nd divi, each club over the last 5 yrs has had different scenario's which have affected them when they come up.
Speaking to guys at Olinda they have been perplexed for the motivation of certain players coming & going & coming over the last couple of years. Yes they should have been more competitive in the top divi when they were up last time around but the depth quickly disappeared when they lost several senior players & promising juniors.

This Maybe harsh (I am happy to be put in my place by those in the know at OFC - Tees or Sid etc) personally I think it is a little the "Big fish in the small pond syndrome" or some think they are better than what they really are. They are happy to do it easy, kill it in 2nd divi or lower divi EFL team, but not willing to make the effort to make the jump. They were leaving the sacrifices & the hard work it takes to be competitive in the top grade to a couple great people who have always done it.
I hope this list mirror has in his hands now are willing to make the effort & sacrifices. As a club we looked forward to a competitive Olinda that fought tooth & nail with us in the mid to late 90's. It made us a better club for it, I look forward to that day again.

The scary bit about Healesville was the ease in which they ran over Silvan - the so called "kids" were simply too committed for the cats. Even better is they still have 4 great players to come back in (MF,CA,DJ & PM).
They'll beat Alex next week then for a great match against MT Ev at MT EV.

Go the Bloods!

Hey Totally True thanks for your high tech input but i have taken your comments on board and you will be happy to know i have removed the teepee and the pizza slice off the website and replaced them with our sponsors logos. As for the cartoon character i asked my son if i could remove his drawing but he got upset as it won first prize in a grade 3 drawing contest. As soon as i get logos for both sponsors i will replace them. As for our hit counter the total has carried on from the previous website although i do sit here sometimes and hit the refresh button just for something to do.I am sure belgrave can re group down the track and noticed that both the under 14s 16s and 18s are near the top so with careful planning who knows. Caggs probably best i dont comment maybe tim would be better but it appears from the outside that they have got an exciting young list and are heading in the right direction so hopefully if we get another crack at 1st Division we can be much more competitive.
