People on here go on and on about defensive pressure, then want to take someone out of the team who is one of the best in the team. Bartram puts on more pressure than just about anyone else in the back half.

Batram cannot kick to save his life. Ok being good at defensive pressure but not good when you give away easy goals through poor disposal.

Bartram hardly gave away any goals last year through poor disposal. I will grant you that his disposal is not the greatest, but he certainly saves a lot more goals than he gives away. People seem to get stuck on one thing around here, and never let go of it, no matter what the player does.

Scully was a worse user of the ball last year than Bartram - by a long way!

Thank you. Maybe this Bartram myth will start to lift eventually.

Bartram is a fine user of the ball these days. He is absolutely vital to our team. Take your hater-shades off.

I was at the Essendon game and he was still butchering a lot of kicks out of the 50. Not really something we can afford, when you're putting it straight down Hurley's throat and he's kicking from 40m out.

For all the bartram knockers, can you mention one game lat year where he was severly beaten? Or where his turnovers cost us more than any other player? Sure not the best disposal in the side, but could be worse. And who would be his replacement?

Side note, saw alot of the players out saturday night at precinct. Crossed paths with bartram and had a chat to him for 5 minutes, is a really good bloke!

This game is mission stop Adam Goodes for our backline! I'm not sure we have anyone who can contain him. I'm assuming Rivers or Garland will go with him. Garland should get first crack. If Frawley was playing, he would go to Goodes, but we will not have that luxury. Warnock should play on Jesse White as i feel he's a good match up. Backline as follows:

FB Bartram Warnock Rivers
HB Tapscott Garland Grimes

The midfield is where this should be won for us. I'm assuming McKenzie will be still injured, so our concern is defensive pressure. We need all our midfielders to be on there game as we need to cut off as much supply to Adam Goodes as possible.

C Trengove Moloney Davey

Jamar will need to be at his best, as Seaby/Mumford is a very good combo. Martin plays ahead of Spencer, as i can't even contemplate having Spencer in our starting 22.

R Jamar Sylvia Scully

Our forwards have been starved of opportunity the last few seasons. Having a bit of talent in the F50 now means we have a good chance of scoring when it goes in there. Sydney love to lock teams down, so our forwardline will have to make the most of limited entries. Green starts at Full forward, while Maric gets his turn to prove himself.

HF Dunn Watts Jurrah
FF Petterd Green Maric

Interchange has to have a back up ruck(Martin) and 2 running players. Jetta has proven himself worthy of a senior match as he has tried hisguts out all pre season. Jones gets the nod ahead of Gysberts at this early stage. The sub is a tough one. It will either be Tappscott or Bennell. I've gone with Bennell for his explosiveness and the fact he can play back, front or midfield.

I/C Jetta Jones Martin
Sub Bennell

JMac is unlucky, but would rather see Tappscott playing and with 3 talls in defense already, he misses. Gysberts, Blease and Strauss all still need to prove themselves at Casey. Bail is also unlucky and could replace either Jones or Jetta. McKenzie, Morton and Frawley to come into the side when fit, but all look like missing Round 1.

I hope you are right CD because I think this team gives us the best chance of getting the chocolates over the Swannies (obviously it would be better is Spud was playing though). The key is going to be getting first use of the pill out of the middle and getting it forward swiftly to forward options on the lead.

If I see our entire forward line in the mid field again ala the pre-season games I don't think I will be able to watch the whole game because it just completely defies logic and is something that frustrates me to the point of red burning rage! Leave Jack in the 50 to use his speed and stamina to constantly provide leads. Providing leading options to our mids just doesn't seem in our game plan at the moment - anyone know why? I don't think anyone can blame Jack and if the rumours are true that he is going to be dropped for poor form then Bailey and the forward line coaches should have a bloody good look at themselves....

Whether you agree with it, or not I can virtually guarantee that Jetta will be in the side. Bailey even referred to the fact that we "missed Neville Jetta's tackling" when discussing the loss and lack of intensity against Hawthorn in Tasmania.

Along with Maric he's had the standout preseason.

Fair call. I had Bail in for some extra pace but jetta is a monty to get the nod - and justly so.

As much as it pains me to say i wouldnt be suprised if Maric didnt get the nod come round 1. Done ask me why just have this feeling... (hope he plays though)

Grimes = a gun we all know that but why isnt he in the midfield???

Spencer = I really dont know what to say about this guy dont know wether to laugh or cry.

Davey = get him out of the backline and stick him on a wing

Scully = how much do you want? ill sponsor you...

Cam Bruce = It just doesnt feel right not having him in the team

Bate = im confused with him, scared he could turn into a gun alsewhere but on last legs

Petterd = gun

wonna = get those strings sorted

watts = get a haircut, maybe the shaved look or something. Needs time but will be a very very good player

That is all

Not risking trenners...if he is only 50/50 keep him on ice for a week. This is rnd 1...not rnd 24 and we need the win to play finals.

By the way, saw Jones and Grimes in Richmond this arvo - Jonesy was coughing and spluttering and had tissues with him - so he may miss at the last minute.

On a side note - Jonesy cannot drive for shit - I watched this big white soccer mum car fumbling around trying to park for 5 minutes all the while thinking 'Who is this numpty?' and then nearly pissed myself when Jonesy emerged :) I think he caught me watching him dumbfounded though as he gave me a mega greasy.

Would seem very unjust if he doesn't get a game in round 1 after putting together the best set of pre-season games of all. Would leave him and everyone else asking what more he has to do to get the nod.
Clearly he has earned the chance, and will get it I'm sure.

Only 3 players out of that 22 are not available due to injury (frawley, mckenzie and morton). IMO we'll only be replacing those 3 for round one

Warnock comes in for frawley. Sure he is frustrating at times, but he is the next best backman we hav to chose atm.

Jetta must play in place of McKenzie, his pre-season performances warrant him playing ahead of other players in our best 22. You have to reward form and his tackling and run will be pivitol to overcoming sydney who are known to love a scrap, so to have someone who is a great tackler but can break the lines and congestion is a huge bonus agains a team like the swans.

Id go with Stefin Martin to replace morton for this match. Sydney have a good ruck combination with Mumford and Seaby, and even though imo Martin hasn't really earnt a spot, he is a must just to help out jamar in the ruck. Given he can go forward and back, he's not a bad option and i think i prefer him at this stage to Spencer to pinch hit in ruck to give Jamar a rest.

Having seen more than enough of Tapscott as a jr,
I think its fair to say that he would be in our top 3 in terms of versatility.

Being able to play as a designated kicker in our backline with his massive
thumping boot - or being able to play as a forward, due to his freakish
smarts and skills around goal.
I think his versatility SHOULD see him get the nod in round 1.

Stevie J like around goals.
