Not my finalised team, but here's my team heading into Round 10:

Goddard, Lockyer, C Cornes, Houlihan, S Hill, Grimes*, Broughton*
(Hodge*, Greenwood*)

Swan, Mitchell, J Selwood, Simpson, Foley, Rich
(Cockie*, Anthony)

Cox, McIntosh
(Meeson*, Browne)

Franklin*, Davey*, Didak, Deledio*, Gia, Krakouer, Sidebottom*
(Chapman, Hogan)

9 trades left, $190K in the bank. The * shows the players I have traded in so far.

Obviously Hodge and Chapman come off the bench when they return. Will be aiming to (at least) upgrade 1 defender (Hill or Grimes), 1 midfielder (Rich) and one forward (Krakouer or Sidebottom) using cash in bank and cash from a couple of trades (say $50K from Muston for Cockie and $70K from Meeson for any rookie).

That should leave me 4 or 5 trades for injuries (which is cutting it a bit fine I know.)

Nothing spectacular compared to some of the teams listed before me, but pretty solid I think. But I'll be in trouble if I lose a ruckman, or if I get lots of little injuries and my bench players are getting a game!

Still, there is a long way to go before the season is over!!

Les

I can only look forward so far. Keeping it conservative/realistic with trade prices I think this is where I will be with $25k and 5 trades left in a few weeks time.

Back : Cornes, Fisher, P.Burger, Mackie, Hodge, Houlihan, Grimes (Rance, Broughton)
Mid : Ablett, Swan, Kornes, Gibbs, JSelwood, Haselby (Anthony, Swift)
Ruck : Cox, McIntosh (Jacobs, Browne)
Fwd : Pav, Chappy, Lids, Franklin, NGBrown, Didak, Skippy (Sidebottom, Ballentyne)

I think that looks pretty decent. If I don't get injuries, I'd like to use the last of the trades to upgrade Skippy and Grimes and whatever rookies to fund it :) Should be enough to make my league GF which is the goal.

Currently -

B: Chornes, Goddard, Fisher, Mackie, Grimes, Broughton, Raines (Hodge, Petrenko)
C: Swan, Gibbs, JSelwood, McLean, Hasleby, Cogs (Cockie, Anthony)
R: Cox, Petrie
F: Deledio, Gia, OKeefe, Franklin, NG Brown, Didak, Ziebell (Warren, Sidebottom)

Cogs > Kornes
Raines > Milburn

next week.

Then Warren > Ballantyne.

7 trades left with ~130k and when Hodge is back (Round 13) this should be my team -

B: Chornes, Goddard, Fisher, Mackie, Milburn, Hodge, Grimes (Broughton, Petrenko)
C: Swan, Gibbs, JSelwood, Kornes, McLean, Hasleby (Cockie, Anthony)
R: Cox, Petrie
F: Deledio, Gia, OKeefe, Franklin, NG Brown, Didak, Ziebell (Ballantyne, Sidebottom)

Looks alright to me. Might look at bringing in Bartel for Hasleby sometime before Round 13 as well.

Cornes, Goddard, Gilbee, Fisher, Mundy, Mackie, Grimes (Raines, Broughton)
Gibbs, Judd, Ablett, Selwood, Cross, Coughlan (Hartlett, Muston)
Cox, Sandilands (jacobs, spencer)
Pav, Deledio, Gia, Didak, Franklin, Higgins, Riewoldt (Sidebottom, Ballantyne)

This will be my side in two weeks time with 5 trades left. Bold will be players picking up over the next 2 weeks.

Should have enough cover, and if I do cop injuries it's close enough to complete....see how I go

Should have it next week, depending on funds. I have 100k left and want to upgrade Rich to Kornes and Higgins to J. Brown. If Higgins doesn't come up I should manage, if he does play and loses 15-20k I may have to wait for Brown to drop more or go for someone else instead.

Bolded are traded in players
Goddard, Mackie, Chornes, Bock, Adcock, Houlihan, Grimes, Greenwood, Broughton
Ablett, Corey, Gibbs, Kornes, Cooney, Hasleby Beams, Cockie
Cox, McIntosh (damn you Ottens), Jacobs, Currie
Riewoldt, Pav, Deledio, Franklin, J. Brown, Giansiracusa, Ziebell Wright, Ballantyne

Obviously I'm not overly happy with Grimes or Ziebell as keepers, but only having 5 trades left is forcing me to keep them, as I think I'm more likely than not to get 5 significant injuries over the second half of the season.

Goddard, Lockyer, Chad, Fisher, Bock, Gilbert, Grimes
Ablett, Swan, NDS, Gibbs, Salopek, Cogs
Cox, Kreuzer
Pav, Lids, Gia, Buddy, Dids, Brennan, Higgins

This will leave me with 5 trades and will trade one or two of Higgins, Cogs and Grimes if I go well with injuries.

Nice team. How many trades will you have left after that?

B: Goddard Cornes Lockyer Drummond Adcock Hargrave Grimes (Broughton Suban)
C: Ablett Corey Selwood Kornes Tuck Hasleby (Muston Anthony)
R: Cox McIntosh (jacobs browne)
F: Chapman Pavlich Deledio Giansiracusa Higgins Franklin N.Riewoldt (Ziebell Ballantyne)

Revised Finalised team after cornes' injury

B: goddard lockyer adcock drummond hargrave ellis grimes (broughton suban)
C: bartel selwood corey kornes tuck hasleby (muston anthony)
R: cox mcintosh (jacobs browne)
F: chapman b.johnson pavlich giansiracusa deledio higgins franklin (dowler warren)

In 2 weeks:

DEF: Goddard Lockyer C Cornes Gilbert Adcock Mackie Houlihan Grimes (Broughton Cheney)
MID: Ablett Zaharakis Bartel Rich Selwood K Cornes Gibbs Muston (Hartlett Beams)
RUC: Cox McIntosh (Spencer Browne)
FWD: Riewoldt Chapman Pavlich Deledio NG Brown Higgins Sidebottom (M Brown Ballantyne Ziebell)

All but the Houlihan > Mackie trade are locked in. I'll re-assess that next week but Mackie will either be brought in for him or Chad, should that injury keep him out for a bit longer.

After this, I'll be left with 7.

In 2 weeks I'll hopefully have the following team:

B: Goddard, Cornes, Fisher, Birchall, Drummond, Houlihan, Grimes (Broughton, Petrenko)
C: Ablett, Bartel, Swan, Gibbs, Kornes, Muston (Hartlett, Beams)
R: Cox, McIntosh (Jacobs, Spencer)
F: Riewoldt, Pavlich, Deledio, Steve Johnson, Franklin, Higgins, Sidebottom (Brown, Ballantyne)

With 8 trades remaining, and 4 upgrades (bolded players) to do before my team is where I want it to be at the end of the season.

To get there I'll probably be trading Coughlan to Muston and Ziebell to Steve Johnson this week, Walker to Ballantyne and Otten to Kornes next week.

It really is a decent team but are you keeping Chad?

Also how are you going to upgrade 4 players with 8 trades?

Not far off my finalised team with 12 trades left.

Currently:

Backs: Goddard, Cornes, Fisher, Hill, Adcock, Geary, Mundy - Raines, Petrenko
Mids: Otten, Boak, Gibbs, Pendlebury, Selwood, Hasleby - Hartlett, Robinson
Rucks: Cox, Kreuzer - Spencer, Jacobs
Forwards: Franklin, Pavlich, Deledio, J Brown, NG Brown, Higgins, Thomas - Sidebottom, Walker

When finished:
Backs: Fisher, Goddard, Cornes, Hodge, Geary, Mundy, Adcock - ???, Petrenko
Mids: Gibbs, Boak, Pendlebury, Selwood, Hasleby, Ablett/Bartel - ???, ???
Rucks: Cox, Kreuzer - Spencer, Jacobs
Forwards: Franklin, NG Brown, J Brown, Deledio, Pavlich, Giansiracusa, Riewoldt - ???, Sidebottom

Raines to cheapy + Hill to Hodge = $0
Robinson to cheapy + Thomas/Adcock/Geary to Riewoldt/Prem Back = $0
Hartlett to cheapy + Otten to Ablett/Bartel = -$100k
Walker to cheapy + Higgins to Giansiracusa = $116k

Leaves me with 4 trades for finals and injuries.

Changed a bit since last week. Finalised team is now looking more like this

Backs: Goddard, Cornes, Mundy, Adcock, Fisher, Geary, Ellis - Broughton, Petrenko
Mids: Bartel, Gibbs, Selwood, Pendlebury, Boak, Hasleby - Robinson, Hartlett
Rucks: Cox, Kreuzer - Jacobs, Spencer
Forwards: Pavlich, Thomas, Deledio, NG Brown, J Brown, Higgins, Franklin - Sidebottom, Wright

I consider this completed as I didn't think I would be able to make it better but its beginning to fall into a situation where that might actually occur as I have 8 trades left with this team.

Other trades I will likely/have do after this are:

Hartlett/Robinson to a rookie and Thomas to Riewoldt
If Cornes doesn't come up Cornes to Hodge

Minimum time that I will have 6 trades (possibly 5) under current plan is about Round 16. Barring major injuries to key players I will not have to trade for maybe 3 or 4 rounds after that and that will be finals time. Then I will be looking to upgrade any of Geary/Franklin/Kreuzer/Adcock.

This is my team but not yet finalised
trades:8
money:39.600
only have rich and broughton to upgrade, downgrade zah to l.anthony if he returns

It really is a decent team but are you keeping Chad?

Also how are you going to upgrade 4 players with 8 trades?

Thanks. At the moment I have decided to keep Chad and to focus on improving the more urgent needs in my team. I've got Broughton and Petrenko on my bench so I should be able to avoid a 0 most, if not all weeks. I'll trade him if it comes to a point where I absolutely have to but I do plan on keeping him.

4 upgrades with 8 trades remaining will be difficult but I'm not too concerned about it. As you can see the only desperate upgrade needed is Sidebottom but I'll try and wait for him to peak in price before pulling the trigger on him. Muston, and to a lesser extent Grimes and Houlihan, I can afford to wait on. I'd be amazed if at least one of Muston, Hartlett and Beams don't play every week so I'll be getting a score from them anyway. Grimes and Houlihan will both average 70+ easily so keeping them in the team for a long time is not a bad thing.

What I'm saying is that with 8 trades and 4 upgrades remaining, I won't be in a rush. I've positioned myself well enough in my league to be able to afford playing these guys at least until finals, and whilst I've got a good ranking overall (top 1000), I've got no chance of winning it all.

Don't forget that with the Houlihan and Grimes trades (particularly Houlihan) I won't need to use 2 trades to upgrade them, but they will be a straight upgrade to a premium. Who knows, Muston may even be the same.

Yes I'm kind of in the same boat. I do wish I took Adcock over Houlihan instead of starting the year with 70 odd grand gone to waste.

I plan on having 8 trades with Muston/Houlihan/Grimes still starting.

I will probably be using 2 trades to upgrade Muston later in the season but do I pull the trigger on Chad? I have Hodge currently being covered by Broughton which means Suban would have to step up for a couple of weeks.

As you can see im still hopefully in the hunt for the Car. I would be trading Chad if I knew Houlihan will be keeping his spot and averaging 80 plus but im not so sure he can manage this and become a definate keeper. What are your thoughts?

I don't have too many worries about keeping Houlihan for a while longer. He was just dropped for discipline reasons and I would think that he will be doing everything he can to keep his spot in the Carlton side heading forward. It really helps him that he has the best skills at the club so dropping him won't be an easy thing to do as long as he keeps his effort levels up.

What you'll notice from Houlihan is that he is usually a very consistent scorers in the 70s and 80s but he will occasionally pull out a 100. I know it differs from Dter to Dter but for me, given the state of the injuries this year, I would take a player averaging as well as Houlihan as a 6th/7th defender any day of the week.

I have planned my final team and at the end of the year Houlihan is not in it. But that is not to say that I would be too unhappy to keep him for the whole season but it will be my preference to trade him for DT finals. Obviously this will depend on the number of trades I have left but the way I have planned, I won't be needing to think about trading him for another 6 weeks or so.

If I were in your position I would seriously consider trading Chad. If your primary aim is to go for the car then you can't really afford to have Broughton and Suban both on the field with Cornes and Hodge out for indefinite periods of time. Sure you use another trade, but if I was top 100 and going for the ranking, I'd have no hesitation in using a trade if it means consistent 80s instead of the crap Suban is likely to give you.

I do agree with a lot of what you are saying. I see both the up and down sides of keeping Cornes. The thing is I may only have to start Suban for 1 week. 2 weeks is a maximum because after that, Hodge would be back meaning Broughton would sit on the field for me.

Im just thinking a Hoops -> Lockyer trade in the near future may benefit me more :p It would probably make up the amount of points lost for the 2 weeks Suban is on the ground for but then the 4 weeks Broughton is on for Chad, it may cost me. I think I'll trade him to Lockyer.

FWIW are you also upgrading Grimes?
If I trade Chad now, he might be a perfect straight swap for 1 of Grimes/Houlihan when he returns if he is fit and firing.

This will be my final team:

B: Goddard, Cornes, Lockyer, Bock, Fisher, Hodge, Gilbee (Hurley, Cheney)

M: Murphy, Gibbs, Stanton, Thompson, Kornes (Sidebottom, Anthony)

R: Cox, Kruezer (Spencer, Jacobs)

F: Riewoldt, SJ, Giansiracusa, ROK, Deledio, Higgins, Franklin (Ballantyne, Hentschel)

Ill be bringing in Muston this week for Beams. Trading Rich and Hartlett to Stanton and Thompson next week. Finally will trade Brown to Ballantyne, allowing me to trade Muston/Sidey to BPA (Kornes or better). Will leave me with stuff all trades left, ive had to use most of my LTI trades already.
