I estimate that it will take me 2/3 downgrades (Zeibell, Robinson and maybe Suban/Walker) to do my 5 upgrades (Higgins, Rich, Raines, Sidebottom and Grimes).

Ideally, Grimes and Higgins will be practically straight swaps to undervalued premiums (might do Higgins -> O'Keefe this week and complete my forward line). Grimes will be my last upgrade probably to Hodge.

The rest of the plan is to use the Robinson downgrade money to upgrade Rich to an undervalued mid premium (S.Thompson, Cross, Kornes, etc) and use the Zeibell downgrade to upgrade both Raines and Sidebottom. Raines to someone undervalued and Sidebottom to Ablett when he hopefully drops to around 450-480k at some stage. (I have crunched the numbers and it all looks possible, however am more than happy to have to do one extra downgrade to get Ablett in.)

This will leave my final team looking like this with 5 trades saved for rainy days (I obviously expect to have issues in the coming weeks which will throw this plan into disarray):

I think its sexy cool and should help me push for a very very competitive final ranking (in an ideal world).

I didn't end up trading Higgins to O'Keefe so my current side is the same as above.

Only thing which has potential to change my plan is whether to trade out Cornes or not.

This week it is Robinson -> Muston and either Cornes or Raines to a backline keeper. Just deciding which.

Still loving the look of what will hopefully be my final team.

I do agree with a lot of what you are saying. I see both the up and down sides of keeping Cornes. The thing is I may only have to start Suban for 1 week. 2 weeks is a maximum because after that, Hodge would be back meaning Broughton would sit on the field for me.

Im just thinking a Hoops -> Lockyer trade in the near future may benefit me more It would probably make up the amount of points lost for the 2 weeks Suban is on the ground for but then the 4 weeks Broughton is on for Chad, it may cost me. I think I'll trade him to Lockyer.

FWIW are you also upgrading Grimes?
If I trade Chad now, he might be a perfect straight swap for 1 of Grimes/Houlihan when he returns if he is fit and firing.

With other worries in your team I just don't think it's worth using a trade on Houlihan to get Lockyer, at least not at the moment.

The difference in score between the two would most probably be smaller in total than the difference in score somewhere else on the field that you could trade.

In my team, Grimes is very much like Houlihan in that for my final team I plan on trading both out eventually but that won't be for a while, and if I do need to keep them I will, because they will both be able to maintain reasonably high averages.

With the issue of Cornes, I don't particularly like the idea of trading someone out only to ideally trade them in some time down the track. If you have cover for him, keep him, and save the trades which are invaluable. That's why I kept Ablett, and why I plan on keeping Cornes. The only time I've broken that rule is with Liam Anthony who I traded out just in time for the first price changes, and who I will be looking at trading him in in a few weeks time when he has hopefully worked his way into the Kangaroos seniors, where he will provide me with a great downgrade target to free up extra cash for a final bout of upgrading, and will also hopefully give me some bench cover for the remainder of the season.

I think even though I probably have cover for Chad, an upgrade to Lockyer would benefit me more and Chad may not get back to his best again this season and possibly ever. He is at an age where injuries start to take there toll a lot more on the older muscles. I don't think he will be anywhere as near popular next year among teams. My final verdict for now is to trade him unless I hear anymore positive news on his injuries before lockout.

Edit: Hodge on extended bench. Doubt he will play though but might be able to cover Chad with Broughton if Hodgey plays.

Nup not at the moment. Can few a few guys getting the boot ahead of him (meant to write Sidebottom instead of Higgins).

Plus, one reason I brought him in (I'm not defending the move, obviously should've chosen ROK ahead of him) was that since I'm playing for league, he plays Essendon in rd 22 and should post a big score. Not going to give up on that.

I do expect his production to rise through the back half of the year in any case. When Hawthorn get a full strength team I'd expect his avg to get back closer to 90.

He's really the least of my worries at the moment tbh given that most teams in my league have him.
