Coming up:
Sleep Token
Saosin
WOMAD Fest
Bon Iver
Ace Ventura

Tossing up to go to Animals as Leaders - really rate their latest album but haven't been huge on their stuff before that... hmmm.

I saw Saosin with its original front man in 2007 at The Corner... have always liked the earlier stuff, wonder what they're like now

I believe Anthony Green is back singing with them now. Haven't really listened to their recent stuff but more a nostalgic gig.

As in my original comment, the same thing happens when I see Metallica live.

for metallica the locks IMO are:
Creeping Death
One
Seek and Destroy ( for the crowd call and response)
Sandman - for those who got into them at black album

from I recall these wouldnt be far off ther most often played songs.

I think the real issue is they are playing it at some shows and not at others.

The ticket prices are expensive, either play it at every show or don't play it at all.
Pearl Jam play a different set every night. As they’ve earned the right to. Sometimes bands get bored playing the same songs over and over. And, as pointed out, bands with such a big catalogue will always disappoint someone.

Is it fair to simply demand 'you must play Under the bridge' at every concert though?

A big band with a big catalogue is always going to have issues with not playing the songs people want to hear. I was happy with the setlist in Melbourne but mind you, it did feature UTB. Without it, I may have questioned it..

A mate of mine was disappointed that they didn't play 'Around the world'... I would love to see Breaking the girl played live but I could also really appreciate Wet Sand, Venice Queen, Midnight, Otherside etc etc..

i went last night, no under the bridge but some great older songs. some of the new stuff was good but there were a couple i didn't recognize and they just sounded a bit like them jamming tbh
in no way did under the bridge not being played ruin the gig

also post malone ****ing sucks lmao

I still loved the Thursday RHCP gig. They didn’t play arguably their 3 biggest songs in UTB, Scar Tissue & Can’t Stop but played probably their biggest 8-9 songs after that. I was probably most disappointed about them not playing Can’t Stop but I was fully aware that it was always going to be hit and miss with what they chose to play.

Post Malone was quite good. I’m not a huge fan but he was fully into the gig and knows how to put on a show for his fans.

Went to see City & Colour on Thursday night at the Forum on the other side of town. As you may guess from my avatar and forum handle, I enjoyed it immensely. He's damn good live.. and trumps RHCP and others for crowd engagment, heh

For their M72 tour this year Metallica are doing “no repeat weekends” - playing Friday and Sunday in each city, completely different set lists each night. Such a great idea.

For a band I loved I’d go both nights and it’d be so awesome no repeats.

But could be frustrating for casual fans.

Yeah, if they come to Australia with that I'm definitely booking both nights

Laneway is a different beast now. Probably necessary for its viability but a world away from the Footscray set-up.

Reckon half the crowd would've come just to see Fred and Joji (Fred was good, Joji's set is for the Filthy Frank heads)

Probably a few years away from semi-retiring from the festival circuit, but reckon I'd make a call on going to future Laneways based solely on who isn't playing a sideshow.

yeah that real fake american sucking up like he was a server in a restaurant after tips

Hey I'm no Post Malone fan but he came across as genuine on Thursday night, dude was crying after the show and it seemed real to me. Don't like the songs but at least he has a crack, unlike the headliners it must be said, such a soulless live act.

You can add Master of Puppets too, during the Black/Load era they were shortening it by half which was a dumb idea. Nothing Else Matters always gets played too, usually Fade to Black/For Whom The Bell Tolls/Sanitarium as well.

They certainly do setlists which cater to their fans wishes, it's usually a few songs off each album up to the Black album, then a random one or two and a few off the latest album.

Genuine?

After his set last Sunday, he said it was his favourite set of all time and we were the best crowd he’d ever performed for.

Wonder how many times he’s said that lately?

Could be true. I mean faking crying is a pretty tall order.

Melbourne crowds are well known to be awesome for live music.
