Collingwood Football Club has appointed Darcy Moore as its new captain, succeeding Scott Pendlebury who served in the role for 206 games.
Moore, 27, is the son of former Collingwood captain and club great Peter Moore, and he and his father are just the second father-son captains in Collingwood history.
Moore had a standout 2022 campaign and finished third in the E.W. Copeland Trophy count. Known for being one of the league’s best tall defenders, he had a career-high year in 2020 before being interrupted by injury in 2021.
Off the field, Moore is a role model and has been a member of the AFL Players’ Association since 2016 and a board member more recently. He has also been an instrumental part of the internal working group for the Club’s Do Better Report on racism.
In addition to Moore, Collingwood has appointed Taylor Adams, Jeremy Howe, and Brayden Maynard to its leadership group. The appointment of the club’s leaders is a player-led process that takes into account values and leadership qualities on and off the field.
Despite not being in an official leadership role, Scott Pendlebury will continue to support and guide Moore and the leadership group throughout the transition. Collingwood General Manager of Football Graham Wright congratulated the four players on their appointments, saying there is no shortage of upcoming leaders in the group.
