Collingwood Magpies fans have reason to celebrate as they head into the 2023 season – high-flying defender Jeremy Howe has just inked a contract extension, securing his place on the team until the end of 2024.
The 32-year-old veteran is kicking off his 12th AFL season and eighth with Collingwood. Since joining the Pies from Melbourne FC in 2015, Howe has become a key figure on the field, tallying 219 games and booting 91 goals to date – 119 of those games played in the iconic black-and-white.
Last year, Howe celebrated his 200th AFL game during the Magpies’ Round Five match against the Brisbane Lions at The Gabba. This year, he continues to support new Captain Darcy Moore in the leadership team, along with Taylor Adams and Brayden Maynard – marking Howe’s sixth consecutive year in the role.
Collingwood General Manager of Football, Graham Wright, applauded Howe’s commitment to the club. He praised Howe’s exceptional football smarts, leadership qualities, and character, making him an invaluable member of the team.
With the 2023 season set to kick off against Geelong this Friday night at the MCG, Magpies fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the steadfast presence of ‘Howey’ will remain in their ranks for another two seasons.
