Injury 2024 Injury Thread

Jeez I hope players aren’t double guessing taking a break with something like a mild hamstring awareness due to the drug reporting fiasco.
Could you imagine if Freddy played if he already had concerns on his hammy because he didn’t want to have any innuendo around a 1 week rest and recovery for a legitimate injury concern?
Could have cost him a few weeks on the sidelines.
Sorta puts a different spin on it.

Its mostly good news here I think. Switta a test for this week and Freddy 1 week is much better than I thought would be the case even if Freddy's held back for an extra week.

All pretty good news really, peel gets a lot of boosts this week

Wagner coming along very quickly

Odin finally put of protocols, won't play yet though

Worner out of protocols and should play

Very good news that by next week we should have every B22 player available except Cox.

We need player availability to bolster Peel as well, they were quite weak vs. Subi.

In: Erasmus, Darcy
Out: Frederick, Tabs

Sub: likely Erasmus
To be honest I wouldn't mind Johnson being sub and have Erasmus come into the 22 and spend more time forward than onball. O'Meara played on the wing a fair bit in preseason. He could spend time there with Brayshaw and Banfield also spending time on the wing too. I think Johnson should be played in his natural position of onball more so having him play that role getting subbed in is better than him playing mostly wing for the entire match in my view.

Darcy in for Tabs
Erasmus for Freddy. Expect to see Fyfe/Jaeger forward a bit more this week.

Jaeger into the 22, Johnno sub and would want to produce as I feel like he has been off most of the season (good vs North). Simpson in if Switta does not make it, not flush with options.

From what I’ve seen Brayshaw has been playing quite a bit of Wing. He Johnson and Banfield rotating through. Don’t mind your suggestion with JOM and Erasmus part of the HF, Wing and mid rotations. At Peel Erasmus has played 100% mid.

Oscar at 4-5 months, is still the year really.

Just means, he will have a full preseason.
Probably, but with such an extended period it is more guess work than anything at this stage. After getting the swelling down, You would not be surprised if it was a little shorter or longer.

When does it go from being an unlucky injury to injury prone?

We've got Darcy and Cox both signed until 2030 but how many full seasons do we expect them to play until then?

Apart from his knee in 2020? I don't think Darcy had any long term/major injuries for quite some time, but then in the last 6-8 months he's done his hamstring, ankle, and knee all moderate-long term injuries.

Cox has done the same hammy twice in just over two years and that's on top of the ankle and stress fracture in the last few months. I'm not a doctor but I'd assume that requiring surgery to reattach your hamstring twice in a few years doesn't really bode well for the future.

Sometimes it's just bad luck, see Hayden Young and Alex Pearce as examples of players who have managed to stay fit.

But when does it stop becoming bad luck and start becoming a pattern?

Pearce was a bony injury, which generally heals quicker/less complications, and his knee was a freak accident. Young did an ankle in his first year and a bad hammy in his second year, but has done nothing since then. Those seem like just bad luck.

Both different to Cox who has had recurrent hamstring/soft tissue problems since 2019 and Darcy who has had recurrent knee issues since 2020 (albeit a lot of them minor). Chappy is another one where it's starting to edge more on injury prone than bad luck, but he's still early in his career so he still has the potential to figure it out and have a long career.
