Some think he is better.

That’s the short answer.

Yes I have seen that. Port fans seem to overate their own and under rate others more than any other fan base.

I always watch this kid closely when they play as we have been linked to him for years. I rate him. But he is a fair way off NWM already and been in the system an extra 2 years.

I also think where he is playing his footy now looks to be his best position. I can understand we would be talking about giving him midfield minutes to help get him over the line like many clubs do though.

As long as clubs have to pay with real picks instead of the loose change, it will should be fairer. I think some clubs will over look academy and FS more often if they are forced to pay up for them.

Bergman has had minutes through the mids and showed good signs. He is big, has athleticism and a decent kick. I think he'd actually be really good in the middle bc he's very balanced. He can play as the midfield sweeper to free up Pou Trav Wilson etc to be very attacking while also having the ability to be creative himself as a kind of quarterback - something that the likes of Drew/Rowbottom don't do as players who play the same role

900k for Aleer is overs but its the premium we have to pay to get him across the line. In the context of the new salary cap, i think it'd be around 760k which is less than what we paid for Howard? Correct me if I'm wrong

Not sure he's shown too much playing midfield. They had him through midfield against the Pies and looked very ordinary. Looks much more comfortable in the back line.

If there was a time to play him in the middle it would be now, with Butters on the sideline.

900k is a lot for a guy playing VFL, does not matter how much the cap is going off. I think the media are stretching that one out as is often the case. Possibly coming from the manager to push his offers up.

I was banging on about targeting Aleer this time last year, but I just doubt those numbers.

LDU won't be going anywhere if North keep dhoeing improvement. They aren't hard up for cash.

Why would any team want Bergman if he plans on making footy second?

That’s not what they said.
He wants to have balance in his life. Obviously misses family and friends.
That’s not a bad thing.
It’s why the club encourages the players to study as well.

So what are we doing with Marshall if we get TDK? Play him as an ordinary forward like last week? Serious waste of assets.

Aleer is definitely one I can get behind. I bang on about the midfield every 5 minutes but our other glaring hole is a gun intercepting CHB.

One plays behind or in front of the ball while the other rucks.

It will be a nightmare for other clubs.

Marshall wasn't fit last week, he was purely in for a focus point. If king had played Marshall wouldn't have.

Not the first time have heard there was a huge wake up call with Battle. Seeing the families after the game with the ex players,with Ross getting rid of the barriers between them, points towards lessons learned and real attempts to change course.
Great to hear the kids love RTB. Great to hear how committed we are to being the no.1 indigenous team. Haven't seen her for a while but hope Aunty Katrina is still at the club.
Maybe have a crack at JUH as well. Maybe the indigenous aspect would really bring the best out of him.

Look you are probably right, it was more a thought bubble with the Saints wanting to be the no.1 indigenous club in the AFL.

Just watching the boys at training, the indigenous lads look tight, relaxed and happy. Even the surelest lad, Collard, is looking so much happier.

Feels like one of recruitments where we say he will play midfield to get him across, he spend some of preseason training it and then come rd1, he's the Webster replacement and never plays anywhere else.

Except it wasn’t said that we are selling him the chance to play as a pure midfielder. It was about offering the opportunity to spend more midfield time - it’s a key distinction

They said that Miles Bergman has parked contract talks until the midway point of the season. Has mentioned to Ken about his homesickness in the past. He does not want to be defined by his football and wants to have family, friends and hobbies outside of footy. A move to the Saints would most likely enable him to play more midfield time rather than a defender.

I haven’t really seen him play but chasing Port’s HBFs previously hasn’t been good for us.

All those years ago when we linked to Cam O’Shea, Port fans would talk him up only for him to get delisted a few years later. Also, last season with Riley Bonner. Frustrating player to watch to say the least.

Bergman is so far clear of those blokes its not even funny

24 this year. Came 9th in BnF last year in a prelim final team. Can play literally anywhere in defence or midfield - key defender, medium defender, half back flanker, midfield, wing. 189cm, athletic, decent kick. Former pick 14

Gus McClennan, Heath & Boyd likely moved on if we landed TDK, Bergman & Aleer.

Would keep an eye on Marshall. If we land TDK he may seek a more prominent role elsewhere. GWS & Lions a great fit.

Important to play like we did on the weekend on a regular basis (win/lose/draw) to remain an attractive proposition for wantaway players.
