Why would we want Bevo to be anyone other than his genuine self.

Intrigued by the leak. That can only cause enormous turmoil behind the scenes, not being able to trust the inner sanctum.

Putting aside the presser, Bevo needs to take a serious look in the mirror and get over himself on the selection and strategy front.

He needs to do two things that he has refused to do for the last 7 years:

1.) Stop selecting spuds who work hard but are not at the level. Hannan, Roarke, Schache, Cordy, Scott, Hayes, McNeil, etc. have no place in a round one side. They can be depth, proper cabinet is a bit bare depth.

2.) Settle down the side. Give everyone a position and develop a game style and ****ing stick with it.

Don’t ****ing play two rucks for the preseason and then suddenly change your mind round 1.
Don’t train players as defenders all preseason and then play them as forwards in round 1.

Stop telling us Jamarra is not ready when he kicked 7 goals in 5 shitty games. Hannan kicked 8 in 13. He has to play.

Hannan doesn’t do Jack shit defensively. I’m tired of that excuse. He’s invisible.

Also, ruck will be interesting. English played well tonight, but we might have to rob Peter to pay Paul and play him 50/50 ruck/foward next week if Martin comes up, or (long-shot I know) Sweet is given another opportunity against a team with what appear to be limited ruck stocks themselves.

Haven't read the thread (nor watched the presser), clearly some things which need to be addressed, some of which have carried over from last season.

We're obviously not at Melbourne's standard right now but it's a looooong season and we're 3 hours into it

Not saying these players don’t have a future, just that they don’t need to be in the round 1 side or play more than a handful games in a season. They are depth. Bevo can’t help himself but continue to give games to guys who are not at the level.

Onto the game… as sh*t as we were, and boy we were poor, we beat majority of the teams in the comp. Melbourne just really bring out the worst in us with their midfield matching us, their dual ruck set up, their gun defenders/team defence and even Brown/Fritsch combo who we just don’t have a good match up for. They really make us look bottom 8. No other team makes us look like that

They’re just better than us. They’re currently better than any other team in the afl. Up to us and others to find a way to close the gap. It’s not huge but it’s significant enough to mean they’ll beat us more times than not.
Our bottom few were found out. Rourke is as honest as they come and probably deserved his spot but he ain’t getting into any other top 8 teams sides. Similar with Schache, Cordy and Gardner for different reasons. I think you can carry a Gardner type doing a role but when you have 4 of them it starts to hurt. Melbourne were missing Lever and Petty and brought in Joel Smith and Tomlinson. They would all get a game ahead of Cordy, Schache and Gardner for us.
Schache sadly just doesn’t have the personality/mentality for the afl.

It’s just… **** me this is footy not bloody Ukraine. Bev needs to get some bex into him ASAP. Focus his attention to the root of the problem, not froth at the mouth at a bloke in a (round 1) post game presser.

He looks like the frog wondering why the scorpion stung him. They’re journos Bev! This is what they do! How does he not get this, or get that he’s just poured fuel on the fire (again). It sucks but 99% of sports people around the world seem to get that this is one of the few downsides of getting paid to play/coach sport at the highest levels.

I mean, I wouldn’t want to change Bev. Nor do I disagree with his opinions in this instance. But he needs to pick his battles. I will forever respect him fighting against Barrett for Tom Boyd. This isn’t it though.

Take the loss in good grace and on to next week is all that needs to publicly happen here.

This game bluntly confirmed that the gaps in our team are there to be exploited by teams that can sustain pressure and out-run us.
Hunter and Libba were used as small forwards tonight. When has that ever worked? I truly believe Libba is given minimal midfield time against Melbourne in particular because he is just too slow.
We have only 2 tall players in our team who can take an overhead mark against an opponent: Naughton and English.
Gardner, Schache and Cordy would not get a game with last year's wooden spooners and yet continue to be seen as KP players.
Both Vandermeer and Weightman need education as to how to play a small forward's role.
Big issues to be addressed by the coaching and match selection staff.

Think you’re slightly harsh labelling the performance unacceptable.

The effort from the team was very good.

I don’t doubt we had a crack tonight.

Not saying the performance was great by any means, clearly we have to improve.

But you can lose a match without being utterly disgraceful, and we weren’t disgraceful tonight.

Apologies for being Captain Obvious but we badly, badly need to come out and make a statement next week.

A bad Grand Final loss, a loss in the re-match and now Beveridge losing the plot in the presser, the club is going to be under siege in the next few days.

Absolutely have to come out breathing fire next week, if we don’t there’s something seriously wrong.

Surprisingly I’m really close to being comfortable if Bevo leaves. I’d much rather he stays, because he’s a better coach than most of the comp, but if we’re stuck with the denial re. ruck./KPD issues and now it’s coupled with AFL media conspiracy theories then who knows.
