Autopsy Demons 97 defeat Dogs 71. Never was so much owed by so many to so few

In a business that thrives on putting people down for doing a poor job, the media go through every week unscathed despite being exactly what Bevo just called Tom Morris. Muck raking, gutter journalism, trash. I hate that everyone is held to unreachable standards except for the media.
But yeah, this definitely wasn't the way to address it.
Absolutely. They're a bunch of glass jawed poseurs with an inflated opinion of their value to the game. When in reality guys like Morris, Browne, Barrett and their multitude of clones are the lowest rung on the games totem pole of importance. My loathing of AFLMedia and its role in shaping the game makes up a large part of my post count here. However, Im just some anonymous poster on a message board talking mostly rubbish to blow off steam. Im not the public face of a multi million dollar football operation.

Even before knowing what Bevo said, i was going to say we are weak as piss individually and as a team. Weak in every way. Look how Melbourne came back, no hang over there and primed for round 1. Langdon 100% time on ground gut running forward and back. Oliver's 2 way efforts, their whole team knows there role. We don't have anyone who does that on a consistent basis. A few times seeing bulldogs giving sorry gestures after a free kick is the worst look a supporter can see after what happened in the GF.

The only game strategy we come up with in the offseason is giving an extra 5m to the opposition when manning the mark. Who's idea was that, they should be fired. Our game plan hasn't progressed at all, same issues, we work so hard for a goal but give them up so easy. Our little rally in the 2nd was probably more about Gawn not being in the ruck that us taking over.

I'm glad Bevo went off at the presser. At least he has some balls. If i'm a player i'd want to play for that coach, hopefully they bring that next week.

The quicker we can get games in JUH the better. I'd rather he do nothing and get game fitness and experience than play Schache and Roarke Smith.

Just saw the whole presser.

Absolutely embarrassing.

Tom Morris is a worm and I have no time for him, but Beveridge completely embarrassed himself there.

He‘s got to face consequences for that, he’s the coach of the club and he cannot be launching childish personal attacks at journalists at press conferences, even if they are worms like Morris.

Just the cherry on top of a shitty night.

Exactly. I get the frustration, and I have no idea how much pressure these guys are under, but be the adult in the room when you can. Ffs, there are ways to punish any journo without throwing your toys out of the pram.

The larger question is - and has been for the past few years- why a relatively small, localised sport requires so many journalists and coverage outside of the actual ****ing games. I won’t hold my breath on that changing though.

Onto the game… as shit as we were, and boy we were poor, we beat majority of the teams in the comp. Melbourne just really bring out the worst in us with their midfield matching us, their dual ruck set up, their gun defenders/team defence and even Brown/Fritsch combo who we just don’t have a good match up for. They really make us look bottom 8. No other team makes us look like that

Having now watched his whole presser, Bevo did ok with his follow up comments and justifying why he was p1ssed off with Morris, compared to other journos, but the initial attack on Morris (while probably justified) was very poorly executed, and will, sadly for our club, be the whole story. I doubt any media outlet will mention the subsequent comments to add at least some context and explain why Bevo was so p1ssed off.
Media outlets leaving out subsequent measured comments that provide further context is exactly why sports journos need to be held to account.

I really apologise for my intrusion for obvious reasons. But I want to lend my support to Bevo. He got you into a GF last year and probably top 4 this year. He is a passionate guy and maybe he should have said he wasn’t going to take questions from Morris and move on. Hopefully everyone gives Bevo a break on this one. If you want to hammer me that’s ok.

He's passionate and will never let anyone try and pull a swifty on him. He'll always call it out and back up his players and staff.
You've got to love him for that. He's famous for his "emotional IQ" and the connection he makes with his team.

However on this occasion he let his emotions get too far ahead of his reason. He'll probably be regretting it already. But don't hold your breath waiting for a public apology, unless of course Morris starts talking to his lawyers.

Not a Bevo fan and he took it too far but I have some sympathy for him. Morris is scum and he also handled it poorly. How could you not lose it at the stuck up pretentious moron.

I loved Bevo’s presser. I wouldn’t take questions from Morris either. I will turn fox off every time he comes on just like I avoid Barrett at all costs
I thought Bevo was brilliant. The media, especially the gutter Fox media are scum. Alos, whoever leaked inside the club should be thrown to the wolves, Go Bevo you little beauty. It is the West vs the rest.

His ability and record as a coach aren’t relevant.

He is expected, as coach of the club, to act professionally at a press conference and not launch personal attacks.

The criticism isn’t from any sort of love for Tom Morris, again, he’s a worm.

All he’s done is manage to look petulant and bring negative press after a loss to the side that beat us in the GF.

Enough with the bitta this bitta that role players for the love of god. Play players to their strengths with direct roles for **** sales, forwards forward, defenders in defence. Get this…. WINGERS ON THE WING. There’s just a bunch of hacks plugging holes everywhere it’s getting us no where. Our top end is best in the comp bar none and we’re wasting it. There’s been no development in our game plan in 5 years. Just structure up like a football side ffs and work on some sort of game plan that doesn’t just revolve around our midfield being unbelievable and pumping the ball inside 50 100 times

Why did he go off though? Bottom line is his players were generally really poor in prime time after an emasculating gf loss, and he’s probably pissed off.

Then go off at THEM ffs!!!!!!!! I know you keep some stuff in house blah blah blah but bottom line is our players were less composed than Melbourne’s, continually made poorer decisions and were outplayed for the majority of the game. They were ****ing terrible apart from a 15 min period and will be towelled up by any decent team if they do that again.

I’m close to being over this. Wasting the prime of a great player/list is one of the worst crimes a GM/coach can commit.

Why is Roarke Smith getting in the neck? What did he do that was so bad.

Bailey Williams was without doubt the most damaging player on the ground-against us. So many costly and basic errors. Shocker of a game.
You can't question his effort or courage but he just doesn't have any weapons at this level. His decision making also lets him down. Is an excellent VFL player but thats it.

Bevo is a lunatic, I love him but that was hilarious. Just give Morris and other muppet journos donuts the standard “both teams played hard” and give them no ammo. Hope he can have us performing on the park because they will be coming for his head if we don’t. Also just announce the teams properly, too much cute BS which reeks of us trying to get some sort of leg up that doesn’t involve just being better on the field.

Thought English monstered Gawn, aside from his absolute BS goal he was a non factor. Which makes the fact we were behind the 8 ball for all but 20 mins of the game that much more disappointing. Demons first to ever 50/50, first to a ball spilling from the pack and always managing to win a contest when at a numbers disadvantage. They are very Patriots like with their system, just plug and play.

Bailey Williams needs to literally be exercised of his Demons, something about the red and blue turns him into a spud. Our entire KPD, including Keath were terrible, freaking box head Fritsch was taking contested marks, the first of his career I might add.

Crappy turnout which was bound to happen on a Wednesday but pathetic by Dees supporters, guess they were still down the peninsula after Labour Day weekend.

Well, Miss VL3OJ summed it up. A repeat of last years game with one good period of play and three ordinary. Big kudos to Tim English after a rough start to the game, Macrae, Naughton and the double Baily's for a decent round one. Maclean would have been super handy tonight.

Talking to the MCG staff, around 300 hospitality staff called in sick prior to the game so over the next few weeks, trying to bag a 4n20 and a frothy may be a bit difficult and queues reached well into the third quarter at the few areas open.
