This had to happen given how slow we were out of the blocks last week!

Happy with those changes. Think Worpel is lucky but hoping he will make the most of the opportunity with one less specialist midfielder in the side.

Can’t see us winning this one but pleased that Ward, CMac, CJ, Reeves, DGB, Nash, Newk and Finn are getting valuable experience.

Sends a clear message to all (not just seniors) that Sam means business. Very happy with the team. We just need to find a space for Day once he is ready next week and we have the best team we could put on park.

Jaeger or Worpel (although he goes against the youth policy)
We can’t play all 4 of O’Meara, Worpel, Shiels and Finn. They are butchers. While Shiels was probably the pick of them last week, he’s also the oldest. A brave call from Mitchell and a sign of the path we are on. I’m comfortable with it

Shiels was actually pretty good last week and i thought it was a really good old leader type game. Always putting his head over it, smothering and Shepard's to show the youngsters the way.

That being said, we have a lot of young mids we need to expose and still plenty of experienced support for them in the side. And it's not like Maginness, Newcombe or Nash need protection in there. The last few years Mitchell, O'meara, Worpel and Sheils hasn't worked, all too similar and now Newcombe, Maginness and nash are contenders for similar tough mid bull roles while ward and mcdonald are hoping to add something else.

Out of the 4 senior mids shiels is oldest and probably least talented.

That being said, we are in for a tough year with this selection strategy. Howe, Hartigan, Phillips and Sheils all left out and i suspect may not be in plans for 2023 and beyond. We would win more games with them in the side.

Be interesting when downie is fit too. Wing spot is free for him bramble and day i think.
