Max Gawn in doubt for them with a knee injury.

I don't see them risking him this week + add in the plane ride over

It’s ok, if you zoom in and look carefully, he actually has his weight calculator at hand to ensure he only beats the shit out of you appropriately

Is that our secret new pre season plan typed into the calculator when read backwards?

Boobless, I'm guessing we want players to shed the manboobs prior to next season? Maybe they were wanting to write gutless but (other than being impossible on a calculator) some sections of the club/management figured that was already covered

Was actually contemplating going to this game.

Then I smacked myself in the face and said wake up dickhead

I’m attending with my demons supporting father. Existence is pain.

I've thought long and hard about how we can compete against Melbourne this week. Normally I assume that the Eagles powers that be know what they are doing but that apparently isn't true so if our resident insiders could please pass this on to Simmo and Nizzy I'd appreciate it.

Ruck
Lets be honest, whoever we select is going to struggle with Gawn and Jackson. I'm reckon we go with Williams and Jamo and just tell them to follow their opponent around and try to half each contest - kind of like a tag.

Midfield
Speaking of tags, Nelson to tag Oliver. It may only be partially successful from a football perspective but I look forward to Oliver taking a dive every time Nelson slips over. It will be like watching fish flopping on a deck.

While we are at it, Redden to tag Pettraca
That still leaves Viney, so SPS to run with him.
We really need to shut down Langdon on the wing- Naish to tag him.
Gaff to go head to head with Brayshaw (but in a very accountable way, kinda like a tag).

Forwards
Darling and Waterman to play defensive roles against Lever and May.
F@k it, lets have all our forwards play defensive roles against their Melbourne defenders, we can't do any worse than we have been

Backs
Since the rest of the team is tagging, I suggest the back line does the same and maybe man up on the other team occassionally.

Strategy
This is for the senior players in particular, when the umpire calls "stand" this week how about we try to actaully stand?
As far as motivation goes, Nizzy to print out a Club Statement at the end of each quarter to hand out to the players telling them how dissappointing he is in their poor decision making - I'm sure that will help.

This will be the first game since I became a member where nothing is stopping me from going, but until the players start giving a ****, I won't either.

Will make them available for the seat resell program because I'm under 50 and tech savvy enough to be able to click a few buttons, but no one will buy them because there will be under 40k there.

Nizzy already has my money so he'll be like Moe surrounded by Flamin' Moe Homer money while I'm yelling "You just lost yourself a customer!"

some ok, some sheer comedy. Waterman to play what??? against who???

Very generous of you to say some of that was ok.

Arguably it is a waste of his considerable talents, but, yes, Waterman to play as a decoy marking target against Lever (assuming he makes the trip) with instructions to drag him to the wing or the point post if possible or otherwise just stick to him and try to prevent him taking uncontested intercept possessions.

waterman doesnt work hard enough or smart enough - thus he would be ignored as a decoy as he has been in past games. He doenst defend joggung 5-10m behind an opponent isnt helpful. There is a reason teams easily run out of defence into attack against us.

If you watched him live instead of from your flatscreen in Sydney you’d realise he’s actually one of the few guys busting his ass off the ball instead of just jogging from contest to contest

waterman doesnt work hard enough

That's just not true. Anyone paying attention will know he often busts a gut getting forward and back.

Stats are hard to find on this and aren't perfect but...
In Brisbane, the AFL tracker had him as the 5th highest work rate in defence (2nd highest Eagle).
Against Richmond, he had the 5th highest number of sprint efforts (again the 2nd highest Eagle)
Whats more, I have heard from a very reliable source that he backed that up and was up and down the flanks of the Hip E dance floor all night leaving no stone unturned in a "best on" performance.

I do also wonder if those who like bashing Waterman also like bashing the TK trade (my assumption is yes) - and point out the missed opportunity with that trade and how we could have players like Georgiades (it would likely have been between him and Deven Robertson at 16).

I see Waterman and Georgiades as very similar players. 3rd talls, play well when they have 2 key targets (who are in form), but aren't tall enough to play KPP. Statistically they are very similar (other than age and draft position).

seen him enough live to know if thats what you call busting his ass you and he our out of contention. Well he may be busting but he is going no where. just doesnt have it athletically, or footy wise.

Hard to generalise but I see Kelly as our best mid by far, he was a highly valuable acquisition. Georgiades is developing well and may be good in a season or so. But he has already demonstrated 100% more tallent than waterman.

It is worth considering that making observations of the obvious as seen by so many is not bashing a person.
