Really pleased to see Dewar playing, he’s got some really nice moves.
The club is really moving in the right direction and moving a lot faster than most people realise .
It hasn’t got the start of 2018 vibes but it’s certainly heading that way. If A.Reid turns out to be up to the wraps on him then lookout!

It is looking promising but over the next few years we've got our best performers on the way out so it's easy to see ppl thinking we're miles off

The Gaff pile on seems over the top.
After being dropped last year he came back into our best 22 and finished the season really strong. If he's our best performed in the WAFL, and there's an opening, he should get selected.
Credits in the bank selection made senior players complacent. Gifting games to kids who haven't earned it will create a different set of cultural problems (including loss of confidence of they get shown up on game day).

The problem isn't how well Gaff is or isn't playing in the WAFL, the problem is that Gaff is slow as hell and holds up the ball when he gets it which is the opposite of how we want to play. When you throw Sheed into the mix as well who suffers from much the same issue, and Edwards who is also pretty slow, you end up with a midfield that can't play the game style we want to play.
Its also a little bit how well he is playing in the WAFL.
Gaff was dropped as a message to say "we are no longer going to tolerate poor performances from established players" after his 4-touch game. He was then expected to go and find form in the magoos. Problem is, his form has been pretty mediocre over there too. WAFL reports are padded with the same "hard runner" claptrap that saw him picked for the side for years, whilst simultaneously showing he's not picking up enough touches (a player of Gaff's calibre should be doing better than low-20s possessions in games in the 2s).

Unsure if there's a pile on either.
We don't have access to his GPS data, but can't help but feel it will look noticebly worse than when he was at his prime. He was never fast, but he made up for it with the hard running, have a feeling the speed has dropped off to now critical levels and the distance (at an acceptable speed) won't be there either.

Except Clay Hall was in the best 3 in the Wafl according to his coach and Gaff wasnt

Gaff had 4 touches and very little impact in Round 1, Chesser was subbed in and showed a fair bit. The change was simple.
He was sent back to the WAFL to find form, but his performances there have been average too. It hasn't warranted a 22 spot.
If he finds consistent form at WAFL level I'm not opposed to him being included in the 22 unlike some on here. There's no utility in banishing a player.

The difference is his 'bad' games in 2023 we're still better than what he's demonstrated this year.
Gaff was never dropped last year - he was made the sub for the game vs Richmond after he had 6 touches the week prior (his worst for the year), but he ended up having to come on early and had 24 touches.
The period 2015-2021 were his peak, and was as consistent as you could ask for. Since then it's been a gradual decline, with the consistency going to rubbish.
Also Gaff's lost power with his kicking, remember he could no longer kick goals from a distance he was used to, they fell noticeably short. 13 years of long distance wing running has taken its toll. In comparison Gov joined the same year and is a year older.
Simpson says he doesn't send messages, it's not about sending messages to the player or the rest of the team, he doesn't operate that way - he has a frank and honest discussion with the player and the team. The credits thing (if it was a thing) is done and dusted.
But in fairness to Gaff or anyone else in the Wafl, if they perform well they deserve to be called up regardless of who they are, depending on their value to the team, a position available, the oppo, horses for courses; can they reliably play a certain role. If a player comes in he generally replaces the weakest link. The trouble with Gaff he is the weakest link, he can't surpass the weakest link in the team. It would seem Gaff is 'performing strongly' in the Wafl week after week, but it doesn't equate to what's required at AFL - frenetic pace, pressure and quick decision making by hand and foot. With those necessary requirements, you just don't think of Gaff, or even Sheed?
(Even much maligned Chesser can run all day, tackle and pressure, has a booming kick, and kicks the odd goal)
