Remember these? Got through about half the clubs then lost interest. With this season appearing to enter a nosedive it's time to bring them back!

These are the threads where we reminisce about the good times, bad times, funny times from previous Brisbane Bears/Brisbane Lions matches. Opposition supporters encouraged to contribute too :)

I'll kick things off:

1993 we had Modra and Hodges together!

1994 at the Gabba we were 21 points down at half time, 14 points down at 3/4 time. A spirited last quarter saw us kick 8 goals and storm home. Late in Q4 a young Nigel Lappin missed an absolute sitter from about 5m out which left the door open. We swept the ball down the other end and Modra took a trademark hanger (his best ever mark imho, even better than the NM one) and kicked his sixth. Won by 11 points in a great game. Shane Tongerie on debut kicked 3.3 and it looked as though we'd found a player - he played only 3 more matches and kicked 0.2.

2004 we lost our way under Gary Ayers and he walked/got sacked after Round 13. Neil Craig stepped in and after a couple of impressive early wins we got the mother of all hidings at the Gabba in Round 17. 21 goals to 2 goals in the second half... and a 141 point thrashing. Ouch. Amazing to think that less than a season later we were flying and near the top of the ladder, largely with the same line up. We jettisoned a few duds from the Brisbane game: Luke Jericho, Hayden Skipworth, Fergus Watts, James Gallagher, Chris Ladhams - but the turnaround came with the same nucleus highlighting just how much Ayers had lost the players.

Cracking game at the Gabba in 2019 where we nearly pinched it. Mitch Hinge playing for the opposition... Eddie on fire... Charlie kicking 3.5 and reminding us what we'd lost.

Other random memories; getting belted in a couple of Gabba finals during their dynasty... Michael Voss kicking 7 goals at AAMI Stadium... Phil Walsh's last game :(

Walshy talking about masterpieces in the lead up to that game.

Was a bit young to fully remember 1994 but I do remember that mark.

And 2004.... Well that one was the night I thought Brisbane were certainties for a 4th flag. How sadly wrong I was.

Was there a game on a saturday night in their premiership era where Voss, Aker, Black, Lappin went head to head with Roo, Goodwin, Mcleod, Johnson all at their respective peaks that we won by a goal or so?

Long time ago, but seem to remember that as one of the best individual games i've ever seen.

Apart from that my memories are a lot of Alastair Lynch man handling Nigel Smart or Nathan Basset in the pre Ben-Rutten era.

both 1992 matches where we flogged the. Scotty Hodges on fire kicking 8 in the earlier game. My family got on TV in the As the Crow Flies Video at the start of the Brisbane Highlights where they say the hunt continued, The prize was consistency and performance, The opponent is Brisbane. The star was Scott Hodges.

How did we not perform better in that period?

Elite midfield, elite backline, elite tap ruckman.

Forward line not as impressive but still underperformed overall for mine. It was really only 2002 that we got it together to any real extent

Our forwards kept getting injured.

M. Stevens, Burton, Welsh, Fitzgerald, Carey, etc. That's why Perrie and McGregor played so many games and we brought in spuds like Daniel Schell (very good SANFL career though).

Trading away Vardy was an act of peak AFC stupidity also.

It was indeed

Still don't think we win anything with him, but to flick him at the peak of his powers and with DJ retiring.... So very stupid.

3 hall of famers in the midfield at the peak of their powers along with Edwards and Burton.

Hart and Smart still playing strong footy.

For all the (rightful) hand wringing about 05-06 and 17 underachieved more in 01-03 on most views.

As a hypothetical, if one could transport 2005 Ben Rutten and 2009 Taylor Walker or Kurt Tippett into the 2002 side tend to think we’d have been very close

Good grief, I was at the 2004 game at the Gabba. The people around me, Brisbane supporters, were more interested in ensuing that they got sauce with their pies.

It was unusual in that when leaving the ground after the game, I wasn’t upset at all that we got flogged.

Interesting the AFL posted this, was thinking about this game yesterday, I still find it a weird game, crows given no chance and a lot of players looked disinterested from the get go and it was basically left to Burton and McLeod who single-handedly kept the crows in it nearly all game. I know Burton cops a lot of flack as a player but he genuinely had the ability to cause headaches for very good teams and coaches in that era including for Leigh Matthews who looked totally lost how to stop him in that match, rate it as one of the best individual performances by a crow in a final especially considering the opposition.
