Rest assured campaigners, whether it's Culley, Florenca, Derkson or any other flavour of the month... WCE recruiters will be focused on some Victorian private school product that will play 4 senior games and retire to Kew to work in daddies real estate company... sigh.

I honestly haven’t seen him play - my point was more so that a few others in the same boat are ready to flame the club for overlooking him before the draft has even happened. Seems the right profile for a player we should look to pick up though. Hopefully we get two picks.

With our number of long-term outs, I wouldn't be surprised if we took 3. We can't even field a WAFL side at the moment.

It's always hard gauging overage talents due the normally inherent size and development differential particularly if they are just playing colts etc. If they are 19 and have stepped up to league and are playing decent footy it shows a lot more.

Id suggest Culley in the main draft would go early second round but he is hard to place. Some clubs disregard the overage factor and look more at attributes and development so could imo go 10-30

The interesting part is going to be if we are required to take multiple picks because of the long term outs. How many of those MSD picks do we take on 6 month or 18 month contracts. 18 month contracts will give us a good indication on how many players we are going to turn over this off-season.

This might be a stupid question but do we have to keep the SSPs for the rest of the year?
What happens if we dont want Hugh Dixon who was a SSP selection (for example, dont at me) and decide to take a MSD pick instead?

I would think Dixon will stay on due to Kennedy knee's giving us options if both Kennedy and Darling dont get up for any reason on game day.

As for the SSP's themselves, I wouldnt have clue.

At the risk of being tarred, feathered and run out of town - Dixon just isn't that good.

There's a reason he was cut from Freo, and a reason why his WAFL exploits have been okay at best.

Jack Williams will be a much better player, and sooner than people think.
His enthusiasm for the contest has been great, particularly in the first few rounds, but he has a lot of limitations.

You'd have to assume he is not on a big salary (and never will be) so he can still provide value for us but it's not going to go much further than that.

If he was to get usurped by Jack Williams as the fwd/ruck option (and that seems to be the thought process from what I can see) the key for Dixon's career might be holding on long enough for Darling's retirement and coming back into the best 22 as the fwd/ruck option with Williams transitioning to a full time forward or ruck (forward seems more likely).

Even if manages to find a role in a best 22 (with everyone fit) he is always going to be in a selection battle to hold that role.

As much as we are all going to miss JK the one positive will be the end of Oscar Allen getting thrown into the ruck.

The draft hands I'd like for the next two years are GC of 2018 and 2019.
2018 picks 2-3-6 Lukosius, Rankine, King
2019 picks 1-2-11 Rowell, Anderson, Ned Flanders

That group is something to build a team around.

Well I'd like GC/GWS original draft hands but it's just not happening baby.

The AFL aren't giving us shit. We'll have one top 5 pick, an early second and whatever Port's second ends up being (probably mid round). That plus whatever players we have with any currency is all we have to work with.

If we're putting pick 1 on the table on its own realistically the best we will get back is two picks in the first round.

Absolutely agree.

I have every expectation that hands out/begging bowl North will get something, and probably something pretty juicy.
And we'll get nothing.

Isn't R'OB still based over east?

If he is, hopefully he has been watching young talent over there...and talking to eastcoasteagle.

I'm too invested in young Culley just from reading here.

Sounds like a first rounder, so getting him MSD is a free hit. Awesome if it happens.

Eastcoasteagle, if you don't run into him, go to the pie truck, (I feel bad about saying that). But do something mate, we need it.:);)

Dixon is one I'm kinda patient on. The likely hood of him being a star is slim but he could potentially be a decent second/third tall support for Allen He's oscars age and this last off season was the first time it sounds like he's really approached footy with a professional mindset. His fitness and runnings all improved. I'm willing to see him complete another AFL preseason with us.

Kinda with you there. This year is gonna be tough, hopefully players like Dixon have opportunities playing to see where they are at.
Not a long hold though.
A long time ago, but Paul Dear kinda feels, if he can cut it. Otherwise we're rebuilding, so bye.

Plenty of LTI options by the look of this. Also Rioli 6 weeks now? I missed when that happened
How bad is our Strength & Conditioning team? This amount of injuries is unheard of. Every single one of them (apart from Foley's concussion) is a leg related injury. That's 16 of them! And most with significant time on the sidelines (and a number of these being out for much longer than first anticipated). Together with last year's injuries, plus the end of 2020 when we were so depleted against teams like St Kilda and North on the Gold Coast, our injuries and management thereof has been putrid.
Just have to see lots of heads rolling at year end in this department.
