Whilst I will put my hand up as one who only very recently knew who he was.

I would wager a quid that most across the scouting community would not have heard of him prior to a month ago.

This cohort is going to be a touch similar, as in many ways it's the hidden draft group.

No Under 16 Champs.
No under 18 Champs to play as an under age player.
Only three games last year in the Nab League.

There will be some kids who come from seemingly know where, to be taken in the top 45 of this draft .

So the " who the hell is this kid Culley " ... line may well apply to several names touted a month before this years draft.
And is exactly the reason why we need to pounce. When are we again going to have at the same time: (i) Pick 1 in MSD draft and (ii) 19y/o talent on offer that slipped through the net as a result of covid restrictions.

It was intentional - as in I've just heard about him for the first time today but will KILL MYSELF if we don't get him.

...and now you've kinda ruined the joke if I have to splain it.
Jai Curry the best curry.

Get R'Oby off the pies and into that please.

Look up the definition of Jai & you'll know we need it.

I'm way too invested now...will probably be downing monacles' cats piss soup in a large bowl before too long.

At the risk of being tarred, feathered and run out of town - Dixon just isn't that good.

There's a reason he was cut from Freo, and a reason why his WAFL exploits have been okay at best.

Jack Williams will be a much better player, and sooner than people think.
Lever just expertly nudged Dixon off marking contest and looked out of his depth

Does anyone know if Culley will move West without being “home sick”?

I mean he sounds too good to be true and perfect for us…surely if he’s that good the club wouldn’t pass him up?

Also we usually don’t find out about the requests of draftees to stay in their home state…? And Derka Derka sounds good too? But is Culley that far ahead of the pack?

Culley is suddenly the talk of the town when I reckon few people in here would have heard of him before last week.
I honestly haven’t seen him play - my point was more so that a few others in the same boat are ready to flame the club for overlooking him before the draft has even happened. Seems the right profile for a player we should look to pick up though. Hopefully we get two picks.

Fair call. But regardless, his eye catching performance in the young gun game came only recently, and it's brought the attention from everywhere, not just this board. It doesn't take a genius to read a few recent write ups to see how highly rated he is by the "draft guru's" and specialists to be labelled the best player in the MSD and the likely first pick.

2 weeks ago we were all pushing for Florenca to get picked up, and i'm still keen and expect that to happen.

But if access to the highest rated young player eligible for this draft, who just so happens to be playing in the exact position/role we desperately need, who's name seems to be on every recruiters lips, falls into our lap, it'd take one hell of incompetence from Rohan to let that opportunity slip.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, everyone says it's a duck, but Rohan comes along and says "that's a pigeon" i'll be somewhat irritated.

Risk v reward.

So what if he might not want to relocate. Its a pick in the MSD which is basically a rookie pick.

Its an AFL draft. You nominate you accept you may relocate.

And as a club you back yourself to retain players you value.

And if we picked Mitch O'Neil instead?

Duck or pigeon?

Juicy question.

Personally i don't think Rohan would ever open himself up to the criticism that could come with drafting the same player twice. If MON ended up being crap this time, the media/fans would roast him about being incompetent twice. If he ends up being good, the question would be asked about why we'd let him go in the first place.

The proper play, from an outsiders POV was obviously giving MON more than 1 covid impacted season on our list to begin with. Rohan/Vozzo certainly thought Pigeon.

Derksen has outshone Treacy and Amiss for Peel, averaging over 2 goals a game while also chopping out in the ruck. Just turned 20, first year in the wafl coming across from the NT league. He’s hit the ground running at 197cm, apparently has grown 12cm over the last couple of years and as such moved into a kpp role. Very good contested mark and set shot. I’ve watched a couple of games and he seems a smart footballer too, a natural forward who is still very agile for his size.

I don’t follow these kids closely, but I do follow the guys on here that do, plus a few other experts and just regurgitate some of the more consensus opinions.

If we were looking to invest in a key forward Derksen would be a very good prospect. But Culley would have to be our first choice on face value.
That's pretty impressive for a 20 year old KPP, and definitely sounds a talent.

Just found a few highlights of him, he does move well for his size and looks a very good contested mark.

Isn't R'OB still based over east?

If he is, hopefully he has been watching young talent over there...and talking to eastcoasteagle.

I'm too invested in young Culley just from reading here.

Sounds like a first rounder, so getting him MSD is a free hit. Awesome if it happens.

Eastcoasteagle, if you don't run into him, go to the pie truck, (I feel bad about saying that). But do something mate, we need it.:);)
Too many pie shops in Melbourne!!!

I quickly pulled a few of Jai Culleys highlights for you all.
Number 17 on red team, these are only ones I had time to find, there were many many more...

Bringing these up to date in the thread.

Something gives me hope is commentator said Culley had previously had some sort of injury. ROB will be licking his lips at that news.

We could start a rebuild we could fix our midfield?

I like it. Get Birds of Tokyo into the recording studio and see if they can ruin it.

Despite learning Jai Curry's name for the first time today - I'm already convinced he's the next Judd and we must have him.

Reckon if it goes to plan we would entertain trading pick 1/2 for Jackson?

Going to form one half of the notorious Hash Brothers by the look of him
