It’s a total mess.

I actually feel for the umpires.

Brad Scott and the legumes at AFL House are responsible for this garbage.

Yep and it was a well umpired game tonight. The more people look for mistakes the more they will find. I saw mistakes tonight but generally a very well umpired game that had zero bearing on the result apart from people who don’t understand 50 and common sense. Be honest. If that was paid as 50 how many would complain. My guess is the same whinging now and they know it and that’s why they are embarrassed and then a lot more.
I’m not even worrying about that decision. I can actually see the merit for both arguments.

But are you telling me that the players are making on average 20 more mistakes a game than two years ago?

You’re happy with a free kick given almost every minute and a half?

Well when the game flowed more in the 80’s that’s how many frees were paid. And the best 2 games in the last couple of weeks had more frees. Not paying frees isn’t helping the game flow. It just means more packs. The thing with frees now is they play on so quickly it doesn’t even slow the game down. I honestly don’t notice the umpires most of the time. I will yell sunday occasionally when a free I disagree with is paid but within about point one of the second o will be looking at the next play. And I’m usually wrong when I disagree with the umpires decision. If there about 60 frees paid 12 will be wrong.

Yep. They have spent years trying to ‘speed up the game’ by implementing stupid knee jerk reaction rules and it’s honestly ruined it.
I haven’t watched much footy over the last 3 years as I lived overseas, but it’s boring as **** watching a neutral game now. There is almost never a free flowing passage of play without umpire interference. And the AFL shrug their shoulders wondering why crowds are down and people are losing interest.

Yep 31 goals is terrible. Crowds are down because of covid. Actually been a great year for watching footy. Certainly the best for a few years. If we believed the crap written on social media for the last few years we would have 100 people at each game. People do get sucked into social media. Footy is as good as it’s been for many years. Certainly since tge early to mid 2010’s

And the results speak for themselves, too

I suppose if you turn off games at quarter time and not even attend games it’s hard to know the real issue.

That since Dimmies and forgery the Commission only gives a shit about cash flow and not the game?

Or, is that not the real issue affecting the league?

No trolling at all on my behalf. I gave exact reasons why it wasn’t a free. Working to the mod and only blaming me Wowee. As for more people using the forum I’m pretty sure I’ve hardly been on it lately compared to others. Maybe they are the problem but I won’t run to a mod suggesting to ban them. I even suggested that maybe more frees helps the game flow. Gerald whately admitted last week he was a nerd so he had another look at the hawks game which he stated was the best game of the year. He came up with 13 incorrect decisions which is about average on what is expected. About 20%. He came up with 27 correct decisions and 22 decisions that in his opinion could have not been paid but weren’t wrong. He then said they need to probably not pay those. Someone either rang in or was a guest I think a guest and said maybe the 22 decisions paid let the game flow more and that makes sense. I think we need more frees paid like the hawks and last night. Both became high scoring and quick flowing games. Both were great to watch. Think about this. What slows the game down the most. It’s players around packs causing ball ups. That can take 30 seconds of the ball not moving however if there is a free in there even if it’s soft but still a free blowing tge whistle and giving it gets the ball moving straight away so more flow in the game and result in more scoring. I think we have it tge wrong way round thinking frees stop the flow of the game. They actually speed up the game

On the final decision last night well there are many reasons for a 50. Through protected area a free after a mark dissent and the one last night that it comes under is time wasting. The reason it wasn’t time wasting is no time was wasted. The game finished about half a second after the free was paid and on that we will most likely see an example tomorrow where a free will be paid to one side yet the other will continue to a second or two. This is how it works. The free is paid. The umpire blows his whistle again and the player must stop. If he blows it again it’s 50 for time wasting. Last night the free and siren were so close together the umpire didn’t even have a chance to blow the whistle once after the free so no time wasting. Others said dissent against Richmond. Now I will be honest and can’t remember their reaction once they decided no 50 but before they decided the players are allowed to appeal for a free and it isn’t called the dissent. You see that all game when players appeal for decisions. Now if they did carry on after the free was paid then the player should not have been allowed to kick it not that it mattered. I don’t know why the umpire let him kick it anyway. He was about 80 metres out. So if it was dissent after the free that is one of the 20% errors they make every week. What I do know is there were heaps of frees and the game flowed fantastically and it was high scoring. Food for thought. Maybe more frees in games is the way to go.

Now I said many things like that last night. It was my opinion and it isn’t even close to trolling. I think people need to look up what that word means before they try and get me banned. All I was doing was giving you factual reasons about a decision. I hope I have explained it better today. And to jb I wasn’t drunk last night. I hadn’t had a drink for just on week as I’ve been in bed with the flu all week. And guess what I have to do today. Yep umpire 2 games. They won’t be free flowing as I hardly pay frees. There will be a lot of packs and ball ups and I will most likely die today the way I feel so mowman there is no need to try and get me banned because you will most likely get your wish when I die of a heart attack after umpiring 2 games still not feeling 100%. At least no more flu. I’d advise people not to get it. It’s no good.

If I could summarise your essay your point is it’s down to:

More frees or more congestion?

Plenty of times during a game a ball is either kicked or handballed or run away by an opposition player after a free kick has been paid and ...... no 50 is paid.

Either because the player didn't hear the whistle or it wasn't a clear free kick or it happened in a second after the whistle went

If that was paid as a 50 against us we would be ropeable as would have Richmond fans especially after the final siren in desperately tight match and also fact that Prestia was 90m out from goal ..... he was so far out even if Warner handed him the ball he probably should have just given it the umpire .... as it was his kick landed 30 to 40m out .... so yeah no flipping chance

Well done to umps for thinking through the situation and coming to the right commonsensical decision

Just waiting for the AFL to come out with another nonsensical justification to support the decision: "It can't be dissent if the free kick is paid to you"
