I grew up in Werribee and loved getting down to Chirnside Park oval on the weekend with a bag of Captain Chook chips. As I got older, it was cans and pies in front of the rooms, just as you've described.

Does it still smell like sewage in that neck of the woods?

Anyone remember what they were doing on June 7 1976?

On this day: Blight's barrel sinks Blues after the siren

I would have just turned 8. I had cracked the shits and turned off my little transistor as I would have been in the yard listening to the game and kicking a footy around. And of course we now were winners and losing wasn't an option.

Dad came out and said you may want to turn your radio back on :) If I close my eyes I can still see it...

The only bit I understood was - focussing the Kangaroos name and term fighting spirit when talking to children. That makes sense. Not sure kids would get excited about North Melbourne and Shinboners.

I like North being emphasised. I wouldn’t be happy if we were moving away from that.
