After watching the VFL game I'd say Stewart & D'Ambrosio are locks to come into the seniors, so changes now I'd have would be;-

OUT: Kelly, Waterman, Phillips
IN: D’Ambrosio, McGrath, Stewart

Team:

Ridley Reid D’Ambrosio
Redman Lav Hind
Martin Caldwell Durham
Perkins Stewart Guelfi
2MP Jones Hobbs

Draper Shiel Merrett

Bench: McGrath Heppell Stringer Parish
SUB: Cutler

Would rather solidify a top 3 pick rather than win a game that doesnt mean anything
All games mean something. Also:

"Languishing in 16th, Essendon is currently in the driver’s seat to secure the third pick.

Mahoney said it was their preference not to finish so low on the standings, but admitted the upshot was the third choice pick would provide options should they not have the strong finish to the season they’re after.

“No, not at this stage (will we be trading high picks),” Mahoney said.

“I think it’ll mainly be looking at the free agency market, that’s a big one for us at the moment, we’re in some conversations there.

“And then we’re looking at trading other picks. I think at the moment, the pick that we’ve currently got is such a valuable pick, so we’re looking at different scenarios, but hopefully we’re not having Pick 3 at the end of the year.”

Yes - I watch all the games and also occasionally check injury reports...!! Kelly is hardly setting the world on fire, and whilst I agree its unlikely he will get dropped because he's Rutten's love child - it doesnt mean he shouldn't get dropped...Sorry to have an opinion on an internet forum...!!
Like you say. It is an internet forum. Expect it to be challenged if someone does not agree with it.
He does not get dropped because he is actually a blue collar player and not a love child. I find it strange that supporters complain about how soft we are and then want to drop some of the players who actually do not play soft. He has his limitations and I doubt he is a long term solution but right now he brings a hard edge attitude we need in the side.

D'Ambrosia for Kelly ?
No thanks.

Sounds like a rebuild.

No thanks.

Why not - Kelly for me is pretty much a poor mans Dyson Heppell - and there's no point having both of them in the team. Heppell is the captain so he stays in, and I'd personally much prefer the pace and creativity of Massimo down back than the predictable, slow, plodding, sideways kicking Kelly in the team...
Lots of people on Bomberblitz seem to agree with me and are listing Kelly as someone who we could drop back to the reserves...

Why not ?
They do not even go close to playing the same role. Kelly plays harder defense. D'Ambrosia plays attacking half back and his weakness is actually his defensive work right now. To say Kelly is a poor mans Heppell is well laughable. Kelly actually defends. Heppel does not.
To be honest I could not give a toss what lots of people on Blitz are saying. If I did I would still be posting there.
Like I already said you guys want us to be tougher but you always single out the players who are hard edge.

Dude, give it up already.

They. Are. Not. Dropping. Kelly.

What if we were to go…

Out - Kelly
In - Kelly

Would this outcome please the masses and their urges to drop him?

McGrath merrett heppell
Perkins Jones martin
Stringer Wright guelfi

that's getting closer. I'd put in BZT for Stewart and move him forward.

edit: actually Stewart forward, alongside Wright, Jones and Stringer is too much.

Stewart as relief ruck a possibility?
I would go with Wright. He has shown he can be good around the ground. Stewart was great forward yesterday. Worked hard , took marks , made tackles and lead the young blokes. He could do some ruck work but I think Wright can handle what needs to be done.
It changes the set up. I think Wright is struggling with being the only key forward. Hopefully Jones can take a little slack and maybe Stewart release Wright to get back into some form around the ground.

Good point re: wrights around the ground work.

Mainly keen to get a decent sized defender back with Reid so laverde isn't playing so tall

Also gets him a different match up to get him a bit of freedom

Using Blitz as a reference point is pretty silly. Only bloke over there worth listening to is saladin

Whats the difference between BBlitz and the Essendon thread here?

Id say the team will be

Ridley - Reid - Hind
Redman - Laverde - Massimo (Kelly)

Durham - Zerrett - Heppell (Caldwell)
Draper - Shiel - Mcgrath (Perkins)

Guelfi - HJ - Hobbs
Stringer - 2MP - Stewart (N.Martin)

Yeah, we actually started better ball movement in the third quarter when Wright came up the ground a bit.

If Stewart came in we could afford to drop Phillips or Draper. Stewart could also fill a hole in the backline if needed.
