And if he hadn’t been the Essendon stuff would’ve been dismissed outright and he wouldn’t be discussing that ‘job’ with reporters.

Clarkson deliberately leading on Essendon to completely destabilize the biggest rival of his new club right from the start would be an all-time power move though.

Statue outside Arden St level stuff.

Yep it would be received horribly by the wider AFL community for him to say that only to knife Rutten. Like mega-villain bad to do that to another active coach. Even the * players are apparently furious.
Particularly since his good mate Hardwick came out and gave * a serve for their treatment of Rutten.

My Essendon acquaintances (they can never be called friends) are sending messages saying he's waiting for Rutten to be sacked so then he can accept the * job, and the coteries sounded him out 2 months ago, and he said he'd be interested if Rutten wasn't around.

God I hope they are wrong as they are insufferable at that club.

The same people sent me an sms of the scoreboard of the final we beat them in at half time... I sent back a picture of Drew Petrie after the siren.
Isn’t Clarko announcing it tomorrow?

I would be more concerned if he was going to announce after the season was over. How can he say he coaching *ess while their current coach hasn’t been sacked??

He was asked directly about Essendon's instability and he said clubs that want to change go through periods like this.
Yes, "clubs". He was referring to clubs generally and specifically referenced Carlton and Collingwood last year and * and us this year.

So why don't they just sack Rutten then????
What if the assistant coaches have said they won’t coach if Rutten goes. Solidarity ? I know that’s a wild concept in AFL circles but can’t see why he hasn’t gone if the really do intend to fire him. Barham may find himself chief cook and bottle washer and coach at *.

Realistically what’s he going to say? He’s not going to call a club out publicly he’s going to be diplomatic . In fact that he’s called the fact he’s central to all this being embarrassing is probably more telling but I’m neither more or less confident.

2 months ago Noble was still coaching us, so if an approach was made by Essendon we weren’t even looking for a coach.

I don’t read anything in the comment that he was interested in the * job 2 months ago. He probably had a general interest in any coaching opportunity available. It sounds like a pretty stock standard response, that if Rutten isn’t coach let me know and I will look at it? If he said sack Rutten and I will take the job, that’s a different story, but it doesn’t sound like that was the case at all.
