Of the players the media (and some posters on here) have linked to us, my thoughts are:

1. Francis - hell no
2. Rioli - only if what we give away is minimal
3. Evans - no
4. Wanganeen-Milera - yes
5. JHF - definitely yes
6. Pickett - yes
7. Ratugalea - yes
8. McKay - cost to get him would be too high
9. Grundy - no, and he's already said the same
10. Close - maybe
11. Michael Frederick - yes, for sure
12. Crouch - bloody hell no
13. Frampton - sadly Wild Billy has burnt his bridges here
Hbf , fc

Dunkley?

List management goes beyond Ken. We can't just do nothing because the fans dont like the coach. We still need to fill the holes in our squad.

Taking the individual players out of it:

  • We've all said we need defensive cover. Looks like we are chasing that
  • We've all said we need small forwards. We are chasing 2 of them
  • We need some more midfield dynamism, we are chasing that.
My issue is that some of the moves could be high cost and are for right now, when I want to build around rozee butters Marshall Georgiades Spp sinn jones Bergman etc.

We’ve got the chance to build a really really quality group around those names, I just reckon Dunkley and Rioli are going to wipe us out of a lot of picks and not get us anything to show for it.

Parker’s been pretty good, just give him picks and let him roll.

I’m pretty happy for us to add a guy like Aaron Francis for free. No cost, end of list. That’s fine.

I think having some concerns over Sinn are valid. I mean, he’s hardly played footy now for about 3 years with covid and a couple injury affected years.

If he doesn’t hit preseason early and show some early promise, I will be worried.

We’ve seen it happen before when clubs take highly rated juniors who had a history of injury issues as a junior and they inevitably struggle at senior level with their body too.

Still have hope but he must have only played like 10 games now across 3 years ? If that.

Some players start there career with a bang, others get decimated by recurring injuries later in their career like Dan Hannebery. Look at Charlie Curnow, he just won the Coleman after barely being able to get on the park for the past 3 years. You have to remember, every single draft selection carries some element of risk, but much like life, it’s impossible to mitigate against its entirety.

Odds are good I'd say, we have excellent recruitment. It's the reason we have done so well for so long despite Hinkley. I hope we keep pick 8 and trust them to work their magic again.
Mathematically the odds are against.
Pick 8 Butcher pick 9 Moore same draft

Even last year with Sinn he’s no cert to even get on the park next year let alone be any good.
It’s like going to the yearling sales and buying a race horse.
You can pay millions and end up with a dud.
With Dunkley he’s a proven stayer your going to get a good return for your dollar.
I think the main reason people don’t want Dunkley is he will improve our side and people on big footy want failure.

Teams like richmond getting Hopper and Taranto meanwhile we’re looking at absolute duds that we’ll no doubtidly overpay for like Rioli, Francis etc.
Dunkley is better than Hopper or Taranto. Taranto in particular is one of the biggest ball butchers in the league.

I'm just making a point - Taranto is a better player than Dunkley but you wait and see Richmond will pay less for him than we will pay for Dunkley.

Hopper is also a very good player and they will pay about the same as what we pay for Junior.

I'm sure I will be pooh poohed by the happy clappers - but this is shaping up to be worst off-season for years just to try and keep the Donut King in his job by coming 7th
Taranto isn’t actually a better player than Dunkley.

Well I will be pleasantly surprised if Dunkley is better than Taranto. I don't see Dunkley kick 5 goals in a game like Taranto has a couple times.

From what I've seen with Dunkley he is more a tackler while getting a good amount of the ball. How much of the ball will he get when his free kicks dry up at Port.

Some people here are stupid enough to think if Ken’s goes we get a new coach and all will be better.
Our list is not good enough no matter who’s coaching.
New coach same players same result.
If you want to plan for the future you get players now so they are up to it when Ken goes.
Or do you want to wait till Ken’s gone and we then start to change the list and wait another year on top of next year before we see any improvement?
I want a new coach because the joy I had supporting this club has all but gone and has been replaced with resentment and frustration, a new coach wont bring success but will bring hope and that's all the people who want really want.

They want to feel connection with the club they fell in love with again.

There is some truth to that, but IMO not for the reasons you mention. Fact is that Richmond is a real destination club for top players. Having nominated them, GWS now will go into negotiations to try and get the best deal from Richmond. But in the end, the best deal might be "unders" to his true worth. Port on the otherhand have to try to attract players to come to SA, which is a lot harder. We have had success with Dixon, Aliir & Finlayson, but then they were not Victorians. We managed to get "fringe" Victorian players in Watts and Rocky, but then they needed to get out of their states for various reasons.

It is what it is. Always going to be hard attracting star Victorian players while Port remain bogged down in mediocrity! Thing is, Port have always had to fight against the tide. It's part of our DNA. We have overcome this by being successful! By being winners! Instead of whinging, we need to dig into the Port Adelaide DNA and become that ruthless, fighting, winning, club again. Only then will we see Victorian stars nominating us as their destination club.

We all acknowledge that whatever good Hinkley & Koche brought to this club initially, they are both now clearly redundant! I am confident that if we can get it right at the top, we can get to where this club deservedly belongs!

Yep, I'm also not sure why I'm supposed to feel confidence about list management filling holes with ready made players when they are the people that brought us crap like the RockliffWattsMotlopTrengoveThomas off-season.

This is just a long winded way of saying you haven't actually watched Dunkley play. Also if you're going of the 'Free kick Bulldogs' theory, he only averages 1.3 free kicks per game (compared to Ollies 1.1).

I've seen them play. I don't think Dunkley has the capacity to hurt you on the scoreboard like Taranto does. I would say that Dunkley is an ideal player for Hinkleyball. I suppose you are going to tell me that Dunkley has silky smooth skills and a kick like Stewey Dew.

I reckon he's going to Brisbane anyway.

There are rumours that the Dogs will delist him.
Maybe he could be the steak knives with a Dunkley trade.

Of course, Dunkley has to first select us
With every day that passes the less likely he will be to nominate us

Not overly suprising that he's avoided saying either way publicly and brisbane might drop out of the finals tonight so we should know he's going to Brisbane as early as Monday.

Just like hopper and Taranto waited until richmond finished.

Re-read the 'Summer of George' thread, not sure this board will ever be that positive again...

What does it matter?

Richmond is a destination club, and this year has multiple first round picks (for any trades).

It is no good dreaming of certain players unless they decide to live in Adelaide.
If Dunkley selects us, it is a no brainer to do a trade.

He may be waiting for some Netball clarity.

It is reportedly on the brink of collapse, accumulating $11 million in loss and debts during the coronavirus pandemic. Netball may have to restructure their teams, so Dunkly missus may not have a team in Adelaide next year !!

Ditto for his sister in Brisbane.

What? Where does Richmond come into anything I said and where did I say we shouldn't trade for Dunkley?
