Episode 15 Hello GIF by The Simpsons

Am I the only one who doesn’t like a lot of the moves other clubs are making so far?

I’m not convinced on Bruhn to the point where I’d give a first for him, 5 year deal for Logue seems wildly unnecessary and Richmond are about to do a first, a second and Soldo for Hopper.

Think if you stopped the clock now I’d only be giving Brisbane a big, fat tick and probably Carlton a little, wispy tick.

Says more about the destination clubs than the players I think.

F1 -> Bowes & 7 and maybe F3 back and Geelong ask for the rules to be bent to allow it
An F1 for Bowes and 7 is probably close enough to fair. I still don’t understand why GC want to give up 7 so easily though. Surely it would more useful trading it Port or West Coast for an F1 or splitting it with GWS.

Setterfield has been very underwhelming every time I've seen him.
watch his last game against the pies, matched up on de goey and took him to the cleaners when he was in some very strong form, also matched up against oliver in round 22 and kept him relatively quiet for his normal output (29 disposals, while having 26 of his own).

Im hoping we can keep him going. Really needs to be best 22 so we get that role in

Setterfield isn't a great pick up IMO. He is an illusion of a big bodied mid. Averaged a 1:2 contested to uncontested ratio. Even in those two games mentioned above he's going at 0.67 contested for every uncontested. A poor player to add to a midfield that does similar, when we need the opposite.

Better off giving more midfield time to Hobbs/Perkins/Caldwell.

We can only hope that he is our Josh Kennedy who has not been given the chance to own the stoppages. We don’t have a Cripps so it’s his time to grasp the opportunity. For a late pick it’s worth the chance I reckon.

Will Setterfield (born 5 February 1998) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was drafted by Greater Western Sydney with their second selection and fifth overall in the 2016 national draft.[6] The media considered him to be one of the most complete midfielders in his draft year.[7]He made his debut in the nineteen point loss to Richmond at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in round nineteen of the 2017 season.[8] Setterfield is cousins with Western Bulldogs AFLW player Isabel Huntington.[9]

Setterfield grew up in Albury before taking up a boarding scholarship at Caulfield Grammar School in Melbourne[10]

At the conclusion of the 2018 AFL season, Setterfield requested a trade from GWS. Essendon and Carlton were considered to be front runners in obtaining his signature. Despite being an Essendon supporter as a child, Setterfield nominated the Carlton Football Club as his preferred home.[11] He was traded on 12 October.[12] Widely considered a bargain coup for Carlton, former player and assistant coach Matthew Lappin tweeted "Blues fans, get excited. I coached against Setterfield in his first NEAFL game and he is a serious player, on the way to the 'Baggers".[13]

Setterfield made his Carlton debuting the Round 1 match against Richmond at the MCG. He impressed, gathering an impressive 24 disposals in what was his first AFL game after his ACL injury in 2018.

You cannot argue with Setterfield for absolutely nothing.

At minimum he will apply selection pressure an absolutely slay the two’s next year.

It's an ambitious idea, Kennedy was 22 when he went to Sydney, Setterfield will be 25 before a ball is bounced next year. Before this year he didn't have Cerra and Hewett to deal with, Matt Kennedy only came good in the last month of 2021. He's had plenty of chances to show his worth and even in the games he has played well, he hasn't demonstrated the attributes that successful inside midfielders have, even in patches. It's a low risk low reward pick.

Setterfields Highlights for 2022.

He got better as the season went on/was given opportunity to play in the midfield.

He was also an Essendon supporter growing up. Bring him in

I know it’s Highlights so it’s probably not accurate, But it’s nice to see someone lower their eyes and not just bomb away like 99% of our players. Plus he can compete in the air which we lack around the ground.

Big body ✅
Can compete in the air ✅
Seems a nice touch off the boot ✅

For basically nothing I don’t see why not 🤷‍♂️ VFL depth and some pressure on the AFL guys couldn’t hurt at the very least.

Yes you can. He's not very good.
