Happy to see the Gunston dealfinally completed, when he’s up and about he’s a great player to watch.

Hopefully his arrival leads to better ball movement, and leading patterns especially. Really looking forward to having someone with his consistent finishing abilities around goals. He’s another one of those easy 30+ goals a year players, will see him fit in well with our share it around style.

The compromise is that we are asking for less picks back with him
Yes it's not really a compromise, because while we are no longer asking for pick 30 we are now offering them pick 21 instead of 15. So, same/same in a way.

Mind you, it's best for us if they think we are compromising. I'm reminded of that old joke about how diplomacy is the art of letting someone else have your way.

Nobel said our major problem was our defence which he’s right Lions did get knocked around a lot due to injury most effected position was our defenders let’s hope the injury curse doesn’t happen next season

News Corp can reveal Brisbane said it would be happy to give the Bulldogs picks 21 and a future first-round selection for Dunkley in exchange for only one second-round pick (39) back from the Dogs.

Brisbane initially said it wanted two second-round selections (30 and 39) back from the Dogs for 15 (before it was traded) and a future first-round choice.

But the Lions have attempted to find middle-ground in a deal for Dunkley who is set to earn about $650,000 a year on his modest new contract at the Lions.

Brisbane believe the offer of 21 and a future first-round pick for the out-of-contract Dunkley is fair considering it gave up pick six and 19 for Brownlow Medalist Lachie Neale.

The Lions have also received pick swap offers for its pick 21 which could see Brisbane shuffle back in the draft order if the Bulldogs do not accept 21.’

How would that leave us between now and the draft with having to delist players etc?
Depends what the deal ends up being with the Bulldogs.

If they were asking for a future second round pick as well, if we trade one out, they can’t ask for a future first AND second from us.

I was thinking we then could trade those 3 picks in the 50’s, to move up to the 40’s. Was looking at Essendon’s pick 42.

But if the Bulldog’s aren’t asking for a future second round pick, and are sending pick 39 back, I want to keep both future second round picks.

The trade guru and all round master negotiator Sam Power does it again!

At this stage, we will be using our first 5 picks to match the Ashcroft bid, so will have to have 5 list spots available.

Picks 34, 35, 36, 38 and 39 (from Dogs in Dunkley trade) will get us to our 2,400 points to match a bid at pick 1.

If we get Dunkley then we will have 2 senior list spots free, so will have to free up another 3 senior list spots.

It appears we’ve over capitalized on picks vs list spots a little. I think we will look to take 5 selection in only.

A deal of
Dunkley + 39 for
Pick 21, 55, 56 and F1 could work for both sides

The series of 30 picks is enough for the Ashcroft bid. From Fremantle perspective they could look at bundling 30, 55, 56 to move up to potentially get Lobb.

That additional F2 woukd be handy, as it allows us to trade back in to minimize any potential deficit to our 2023 haul. Or potentially allow us to move back in the draft and grab a slider of the bids come later than expected, would save us making additional selection at the back end of this draft.

This should have been the trade the whole time, in fact I'd happily do Future First and 21 for Dunkley only. Asking for 30 and 39 back was a bit of a piss take IMO and can understand why it ruffled a few feathers at the dogs.

Bruz, I feel like I’ve read this and said this 1000s of times in the past week…Likns approached Dogs and said something like:

If you want 15, we need heaps of picks back for points…equally, we’re happy to do the running around and come back to you with a slightly lower pick (15 > 21) and we won’t need all the picks back…

Don’t drink the Trade Week Kool Aid…it’s not personal, just pros putting deals together…all the rest is clickbait
