My prediction: It will only take 3/4's of 1 game in front of a raging Adelaide Oval, for Izak Rankine to completely make me forget Jimmy Rowe ever played for us.

Look you can’t win them all and if they are lower picks, the chances of them making it reduce and so be it. But there’s no denying we used two picks on him, it’s just the facts. It didn’t work out not the end of the world, we didn’t blow first round picks.Because it's a stupid and completely irrelevant complaint/comment.
Am I looking too much into this picture that includes a thin Jammo?
ie why did he step down ( I'm sure it wasnt time) AGM Nov 22 is when Board positions are fixed?
I agree re Hately and Crouch on the Wings .....that said, and it's hard watching team structures on TV versus live .....but many Clubs are starting mids on the wings now, to avoid them in CBA's ...then after the CBA they're reverting to more a Mid roleWhat I struggle with is any gameplan that thinks Hately and Crouch on the wing is a good idea irrespective of experience.
Last year we started the year with a more attacking game plan and team structure. We had good wins against Port, Richmond and Bulldogs. One kick losses to Freo and Essendon and a 42 point loss to the Pies. We were 3-3.
We had 2 bad losses against Carlton and GWS and Nicks panicked and went into minimise the loss mode rather than going for the win. They admitted as much when the Gold Coast kicked late goals on “we were close enough for a win so we went for it and conceded late goals” or words to that effect.
Part of the defensive strategy was playing Dawson in defence, we even did it against West Coast and North, 2 of the worst teams you’ll ever see. So he spent the games being pushed back deep into defence.
I commented I met some players dads and one feedback was Nicks was too defensive.
We’ve debated this before, you think he’s been teaching us defence first, I’d say if that includes pushing our small forwards up the ground towards the contest to clog it up teaches our players nothing. When we play more attacking and decide to keep our small forwards up nearer goals, what have we taught our players about winning contested ball?
So you’re putting it out there now with Rankine and more experience we will be more attacking, I hope you’re right. If you’re wrong I suppose you’ll have an excuse ready and we go again for 2024 Starting Dawson in defence doesn’t bode well though.
Thanks RodHe’s fine

Can you explain to me what defensive skills Nicks taught the players last year by getting numbers around the ball?I agree re Hately and Crouch on the Wings .....that said, and it's hard watching team structures on TV versus live .....but many Clubs are starting mids on the wings now, to avoid them in CBA's ...then after the CBA they're reverting to more a Mid role
Then you have MELB that play the traditional specialist Wings .....Langdon & now adding Lachie Hunter
Yep ...I'm 100% behind teaching a young team defence first .....it's what Paul Roos has done at both Clubs he's coached ...and he's generally lauded as a great coach ...approached by NORTH
Nicks is from that SYD system
I'm also 100% behind recruiting the competitive type players .....the scrapping / competitive player types win finals .....didn't the 2017 Grand Final teach us anything
Adding the attacking flair is the easiest layer to apply .....hard edge first, scrappy finals like footy ....then overlay the class with experience
Rankine will make a difference .....you don't think Betts made a difference to our side, running off the back edge of the square ect .....yes just one player, who then changes defensive matchups by oppo Clubs
Will allow Rachelle and McAdam to get lesser rated defenders
I hark back to Nicks first year, with a more experienced Crows side .....it was referenced the similarity in attacking waves to the orange tsunami of GWS
You don't think Rachelle, Thilthorpe, Soligo, Berry ect, won't be much better players in 2 years time .....to think that 18-20 YO players can out perform 25-27 year old players from oppo clubs is silly ......Nicks has to balance the scales in competitive matchups
Yes ....the BULLIES Draft outcome pretty much sealed Rowe's fate ....was no longer a needYep, Western Bulldogs supposed interest this year quickly disappeared into the ether even though he was available for nought.
They were supposed to have interest the year we drafted him but they'd obviously been watching the following 2 years and lost interest instead drafting a gun small forward Charlie Clarke midfielder that has all of Rowe's better attributes....and speed and a strong defensive side to his game, they also drafted another small defender/small forward/midfielder in Harvey Gallagher....who also has serious speed.
The SANFL is not the AFL though .....faster, and Rowe found it harder to find spaceLook I’m not saying he would have made it but our gameplan didn’t help. We recruited him as a small forward in the SANFL who stayed close to goals and kicked lots of them.
Most pundits applauding the idea of Rachelle, Rankine, Pedlar pushing up from the FWD 50 into the mid play .....but Rowe doing it was poor coaching ?For me neither have enough speed or tricks to be deeper forwards
Both best used up the ground
Rachele , Rankine and even Pedlar can cause real havoc I50 IMO but also push into midfield itself not just as an extra around the ball
100%We need ROB to give them more marking protection... rather than being 15m away from forward stoppages.
That’s because you didn’t comprehend what he said. If I am reading Jeffcrowe correctly, he meant midfield time, not just adding a number around the ball like Rowe, McHenry and Murphy did, often more than one at the same time. Most pundits applauding the idea of Rachelle, Rankine, Pedlar pushing up from the FWD 50 into the mid play .....but Rowe doing it was poor coaching ?

You can argue till the cows come home ...the best position to play Dawson ....it's totally subjective, but many Clubs are putting their best players behind the ball .....but I also see the opposite POVCan you explain to me what defensive skills Nicks taught the players last year by getting numbers around the ball?
What defence did Nicks teach the young players?
Why is Dawson still training in defence?
I'm curious, which other clubs are putting their best players behind the ball? You can argue till the cows come home ...the best position to play Dawson ....it's totally subjective, but many Clubs are putting their best players behind the ball .....but I also see the opposite POV
Nicks taught this team ...that if you keep scrapping and competing, you can come back from losing positions & give yourself a chance of winning
So many games this year, we looked beaten, to then get back in contests .....and after all most supporters would applaud this
Your problem is you continue to believe the youngest team in the competition should be all class and matching it with the best experienced teams .....total fallacy
Youngest team secured 8 wins .....could have easily have won another 2-3 .....the R1 FREO lost was a game gone begging
Without doing a full analysisI'm curious, which other clubs are putting their best players behind the ball?
Haha, that’s a classic. Besides all your hullabaloo about Nicks teaching defence first and using this to defend his game plan and selections, you came up with….keep scrapping and trying. You can actually teach that and still attackYou can argue till the cows come home ...the best position to play Dawson ....it's totally subjective, but many Clubs are putting their best players behind the ball .....but I also see the opposite POV

Jack crisp and nick daicos at the pies is a startI'm curious, which other clubs are putting their best players behind the ball?
Daicos will be a fascinating one to watch this year
Been training with the mids I believe. I’m don’t think a first year player is a best example to be using.Daicos will be a fascinating one to watch this year
These aren't these sides best players thoughWithout doing a full analysis
CARL (Docherty)
COLL (Moore, Howe, Daicos)
GWS (Whitfield)
RICH (Short)
SAINTS (Sinclair)
All, it could be argued, would be better utilized in more attacking roles ....but each Clubs gameplan varies, some like to launch off HB
DebatableThese aren't these sides best players though
