Perhaps Butts out who hasn’t looked right and Worrell in who has the pace and height to play on smalls, mediums and even taller players unless gorillas
Worrell hasn't even played a game this season coming off multiple hamstring issues and a late out from the SANFL you can't seriously be suggesting he's ready for the heat of an AFL Game against the rampaging pies.

Ned out is a lock. Didn’t do enough to force his way in, won’t be sub 3 weeks.

Schoenberg makes sense as in turn of next player up but he hasn’t had a lot of continuity of late with previously being sub and the SANFL bye, I’d like to see him string some games together.

Someone like Cook would be a good option, can play a range of positions.
Cook may be ok as a sub, doesn't seem to stay involved for full matches but perhaps coming on just to try get involved later in a match would be ok? I think realistically they'll stick with Schoenberg.

agree

Coaches don’t look at form on a one game baseline, they would review form in 3-4 week blocks

Sig was horrible against Carlton but has been very good in all other games

If coaches drop players after one howler all players would be playing nervous footy, we don’t want that

This was a massive issue we had under Don Pyke.

Our young players were held to incredibly high standards. I have no doubt Pyke would have dropped Soligo, likely for a more experienced player (Crouch, McHenry).

At the same time we wouldn't have dropped a senior player for the same sort of performance.

This led to complacent senior players and panicked juniors.

Under Nicks he is applying a much fairer selection policy and giving more responsibility to young players with talent. He's had a few blips and errors along the way but he seems to have learned that young talent has to be fostered and can form key parts of the team

Didn’t realise he had reinjured himself and clearly didn’t check SANFL stats / game so ignore that ill informed suggestion of mine. If he was indeed fit, he may have been a decent replacement under the circumstances.

am I right in saying Worrell is OOC this year? Surely a priority signing or do we see him as a material piece in a major trade move? (Eg Kozi for our first rounder and Worrell). Personally think he has massive upside and hopefully has more exposed form in such a scenario but prefer to keep overall with height, pace, attacking flair and good kick. A little Nathan Bock like IMO

Just as an aside, is this week our first realistic chance of cracking the 50k crowd mark (since I guess the prelim in 17, and not including Pear games?) Surely a potential "top 4" clash, against an extremely high drawing opposition, will get people along?
4.10pm start on a Sunday really doesn't help though

This is a MAJOR issue. And thank you for raising it. Our crowds have been in structural decline in recent years. Look at averages since AO and I can’t imagine we got many games under 40k there 7-8 years ago which have become more common the last year or 2. We are in the unfortunate position of having been “fully sold out with waiting lists for years“ to become a member from 1991 to perhaps a decade ago and therefore many of the younger demographic who weren’t aligned started following Port Power in this extended period. A cursory glance at any TV angle shows a significantly younger - and admittedly less attractive / higher bogan component - crowd at their games. I would expect their lower socioeconomic group (a previous Herald Sun survey showed Poort Power fans had lowest average incomes in the league, most amount of missing teeth and one other stat I fail to recall right now but I imagine it was possibly the lowest level of educational attainment perhaps being year 10 average? — this isnt taking the pi$$ either as was a real article with perhaps only the last point embellished). So a lower socioeconomic group on lower incomes buying cheaper/more limited memberships. macro changes for the economy (higher IR, rents) will very likely impact the discretionary expenditure (AFL spend) of Powers demographic much more than our own with a higher % of boomer wealth as our members. Bl00dy boomers…haha)

I email the club a couple of times per year - Silvers, Reid etc - with my thoughts about various matters and to their credit have always responded. The bigger more serious issues get every coach, Administrator, Director and Leaderhip players involved (cc’d) and done in a constructive way has always illicited an appropriate response, normally from the CEO. I have pointed out declining crowds and the need to start attracting younger age groups and as part of that Rankine as a freaky player and higher scoring football goes a long way towards that. I personally think Rankine could bring in an extra 5,000 per game over the years…and the club didn’t disagree with me

Heres to a sell out Sunday twilight (shit timing) and great game

3 and 4th is a top 4 clash at the moment. ;)

Lol at McHenry being suggested as an “in”. 40 of the worst minutes of footy imaginable as a sub doesn’t get you a callup.
Agree totally. Getting caught htb on the wing in the last shows his sleepy lack of awareness. McHenry seems to have impact only when the Crows are dominating.
I wouldn’t be completely stunned to see Himmelberg come in for Thilthorpe, but I hope we give Riley at least one more game, despite his back to back complete clunkers against Carlton and Hawthorn.
Enjoyed your 4-scenario speculation, but EH for Thilthorpe? I would be perplexed. No thanks.

You do want "that sort" of player to come in as the sub. You really want to put them on wiht 8 mins left in the 3rd quarter when they are fresh, put them in the mids, and get that extra burst of energy.

Jones did it brilliantly a couple weeks back for example. So did McHenry actually.
I'd put Schoenberg there maybe.

Murphy, maybe?

4.10pm start on a Sunday really doesn't help though
Time slot is awful..but I guess what you lose by it being a late Sunday game you gain by local / amateur sport not being on? Also is it still school holidays? If we can get 47k on a Thursday night, I really hope we can return to the '17 glory days and have a crowd befitting the footy we have been playing...

I don't think Nicks has much choice but to play young players even after a bad game as we shipped off most of our experience and the experience that isn't being played isn't AFL standard anymore(crouch). Whether Nicks would be any different from Pyle is debatable if he had the same list. The experience in the team is performing and Nick's has shown a willingness to replace a underperforming young player with another young player which is good.

Ridiculous question to be asking, unless you have an agenda.

The last 2-3 years we are the least experienced and youngest squad (or very close to). Nicks has played and developed these youngsters now many showing they are likely elite.

Which ones excite you most and why? Murray? Raxhele? Soligo? TT? Or others?

I understand only a genuine crows fans would reply to this question so have very low hopes for yourself (In all ways unfortunately)

At some stage we will need to give Butts a rest. He’s clearly not right. If we do end up playing finals we will need him.
Going to be interesting to see what the club do and how we manage it.
The club's probably waiting for Keane to get some good games in before we have the luxury of dropping / resting Butts. Keane didn't appear to get a lot of it in the SANFL, so he's a few weeks away yet, one would think.

Most? Michalanney. Future AA and 200-gamer for us. Hard to believe his skills/composure for his age and only 6 games played.

All of Rachele (I repeat, his name is pronounced rah-KEL-eh; ask any Italian), TT, Soligo.
Murray's a lock out back now.

Don't forget Rankine is only 23; hard to imagine how good he'll be in 3 years time.
