Prove it. 23rd April right after vfl r5 win V Casey I called him out. Actually find any mention of him at all as a chance on the internet before that time....

At least we don't have another Miller situation ;)
That’s when you looked at his stats sheet. 😂. I was before that mate and no stat sheets needed.

I'm all for giving young guys a go but hear me out

Ray hall played 99 games for our club. He's only 42 years old.. thats not old for a ruckman
Would still be better than Miller and if he has sons we qualify them
No brainer

Sign the big fella from Woy woy up
How is Ray Hall only 42!
Seems like a lifetime ago.

My thoughts are this.

Both Hunter and Buller had AFL traits and we have no tall forwards coming through at all.

Treszise pick I like. He’s got AFL traits. With full time development can be a player.

I’ve got Matt Clarke on the watch list though. Our drafting hasn’t been great
I’m pretty OK with our mid-season selections tbh. He's addressed some areas we need to improve in.

Having said that, I'll take the bolded further and say that I don’t really like Matt Clarke’s overall vision for our list. It's been a long time coming so isn't really based on the MSD.

He took over as the head list manager in 2016 and started very well by taking Bolton (2016), Graham (2016), Stengle (2016), Baker (2017), Balta (2017), and Higgins (2017). He nailed those two drafts. Since the 2017 draft though, only Pickett is well entrenched into our best 22.

People may argue that it can take a while for a player to break out (which is true), but those players listed above (that are still on our list) were regulars pretty early on in their AFL careers.
  • Graham was a Premiership player the year after he was drafted.
  • Bolton became a regular best-22 player (and a Premiership player) in his 3rd year.
  • Balta played 13 games in his second year and became a Premiership player in his third year
  • Baker became a regular best-22 player (and a Premiership player) in his 3rd year.

The above players forced their way into our Premiership sides, let alone just any ordinary best 22. Yes, our selection committee is also performing worse since our Premiership days, but most players drafted by us from 2018 onwards are droppable even in our current 15th-placed side.

I think the problem is that many of Clarke's picks lately are viewed as 'draft bolters' by draft watchers and journalists alike. That in itself is no concern if they work out, but they also hardly end up working out. From my perspective, it feels like all list managers, draft watchers, and journalists are looking at one spot while Clarke's looking at another spot. That's why his selections (especially with our first pick of the draft) are starting to become concerning for me. If most of the 2021 and 2022 draft groups are not entrenched in our best 22 in the next couple of seasons, then the club really needs a new list manager.

Happy with both pics, Coulthard is an actual small forward who attacks the ball and hopefully stays that way, rather than guard space/pressure running/etc.

Anyone watching Trezise couldn't help but be impressed. Great athlete, great lateral movement, never loses his feet and a good all round game with speed and good marking ability. Some have knocked his kicking, but haven't noticed that particularly so maybe that might be something to work on. A wingman in waiting, both ours are 30 & 32 next year so on the cusp.

Matt Clarke is definitely not the List Manager! Blair Hartley has that role and I’m sure would have plenty of input into the types of players we are drafting and recruiting.
Blair has been with us since 2010? And managed to put together a list that won 3 premierships. I’ve got faith he can rebuild the list to get back to the top of the mountain. A small forward was a must in this draft, I don’t get what all the moaning is about. They will have something in place to replace Jack

That’s dark beige.

the cream, the bone, the white, the off-white, the ivory and the beige
you cant print gold onto fabric as its metalic

hawks wear light orange while we used to wear a deep yellow like the crows. they try to spin it off as gold but it never will be

the only time the hawks wore real gold was when they had the power rangers jumper

Oh OK. Isn't Matt Clarke the National Recruiting Manager from 2016 though? What is that role? I thought that this meant he was our head recruiter (e.g. drafting and trading)

Yeah without the metallic lustre gold is ironically super bland.
yeah but you have campaigners in our supporter base that think the traditional yellow is gold 🤪

prob same campaigners that say black and yellow instead of yellow and black

Yep, recruiting Manager but not List Manager. Blair is responsible for list management and trading, but I’m sure Matt would have impact on draft picks being traded for a particular player

The problem hasn’t been the list build. It’s been the drafting. Which falls under Matt Clarke.
Drafting is a problem? Only because we haven’t had the high picks to nail the choices. For what he’s been given, he’s done a reasonable job imo. I’m certainly happy with the 2021 haul when he actually had some decent draft capital.
Easy for us armchair experts, using especially hindsight
