Would we ... we probably just hired the first guy to walk through the office door like we did with Louie
That’s nothing like what we did with Louie

He’s actually been at the club over 10 years.

Atleast keep the shit slingin factual bro.

Come on ❤️

Was at a club function last night. Spoke to some club employees and the president. Comment was we needed to take into account that we needed list space for those who are injured to come back next year and that many of the better players in this draft had nominated 18 month contracts. We are looking at getting multiple first round picks in the ND and thus didn’t want to take too many tonight as that would reduce our capacity at the end of the year.
Exactly

Blight makes perfect sense. Question marks on Gibcus ability to get on the park. Young has regressed a lot this season. Grimes retiring. Broad 30+. Vlastuin almost 30. Potential for Balta to be needed up forward.

If he’s got good hands and size then he’s halfway there to making the grade … loads and loads of limited players have become very good KPD: Astbury, Lonergan, Ted Richards, Presti .. the list goes on.

Happy with this selection based on his highlights and physical attributes.

We now have 13 players on the list 190cm + who play their best football as a Key Back and/or intercepting Backman

At the other end of the ground we have Fawcett, Lynch and Lefau who have managed a total of 12 games between them this year and we are 1-10 because we can't kick a winning score.

it doesnt even make sense GIF by Slice

A tad confused. So we didn’t take players we rated highest as many of the better players nominated 18 months and we didn’t want to take that risk?

There’s a few who have talent that asked for 6 months. Argument sake, let’s say it’s Joe Pike. Developing ruck. Comes into our VFL list and does all the training and improves in that six months, showing all our coaches enough to say he will develop into a player. We have him, for free. No need to scramble in the other drafts. Conversely, he doesn’t train well, doesn’t improve, doesn’t understand the game plan, has poor attitude etc, we delist him and maintain set amount of picks.

I’m a bit perplexed.

The clubs recruiting has been poor for a long time and it looks like it's continued. Continue to ignore needs and the best available talent for weird smoky picks.

Clarke is out the door so he's not the only one to blame

The players they were looking at after their second pick obviously had nominated 18 month contracts.......

And so who would you have picked up to make it look like our recruiting was top notch?

2 minutes in and you’re already writing them off? ****n hell you must be a delight at parties.

Ps. Blight hardly a smoky

so close our eyes and have a stab at a 6-monther?

literal pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey style (caveat: RCD not allowed on the board)

As if they have any less chance of making it than the first rounders our club picks...!

Absolute lottery, so buy as many tix as you can?

Ok, so say we do look at Joe Pike for 6 months and realise he might be half decent. National draft comes around, and then we realise we may be able to get the 200cm Whitlock kid. Do we give up on the Whitlock kid cause of Pike because of the 6 months of development but (possibly) not as high of a ceiling, or would you give up on the 6 months of development in Pike to pick up Whitlock because of the (potential) ceiling?

We've seen recently that Yze obviously sees Ryan as a ruck rather than fwd/ruck, so there are players there. Recruiting Gray and Blight also means that Balta and/or Kosi will be used there as well if needed.

From the 2 players we've picked up, it's obvious to me that we've looked for players who not only have a bit of potential, but also the ability to play now if we need them to. I'm not sure there are many of those kinds of players in the MSD (without doing much research) who also have nominated for 6 month contracts.

(As a side note, Pike's profile seems eerily similar to the criticisms that are labelled on Ryan, in terms of getting lost around the ground and being a confidence player, and I'd at least prefer Ryan who's been in the system for a couple seasons now).

Probably similar reason why we didn't go for someone like Howes, who probably is purely a project player if we drafted him tonight, where we might be in frame to draft a genuinely high talented KPF at the end of the season.

Have you thought what happens if a six month guy turns out to be ok (not a superstar but reasonable)? What do we do then? The chances are a first or second round pick in the ND (where we may have multiple picks) will be far more likely to get us a great player. Now we can't fit them in because we committed to the 6 monther who was reasonable. Do you see the problem?
