I hope he stays. But the players are entitled to be angry that some players are hogging all the salary cap. It is a bit sad, gives players a good excuse to leave. Taranto I think wanted to stay a couple more more years, i for one miss him. I am sure Harry does to.

You realise the 18 named on the field on Thursday night means nothing?

It’s about the 22 and with all the interchanges it becomes irrelevant where you are named.
Yes I do (hopefully you weren't being condescending).

Right now, IMHO we should be doing everything to indicate that we want him to stay.

Don't give the teams wanting him the opportunity to drive a wedge.

Most of it is a rehash of interviews given by Jason McCartney (and which Dave Matthews had stated as well) but it seems that formal offers will be made to Himmelberg and Ash. Whilst HH has been the target of media speculation and interests from various clubs, talk had been relatively quiet on Ash.

GREATER Western Sydney will look to kickstart discussions with uncontracted duo Lachie Ash and Harry Himmelberg in the coming weeks, confident in the long-term vision it is selling the impressive duo.

Hogging?
Kelly, Cogs (except for 2020), Whitfield have been our superstars.
Sure TFG is our hero. And also takes a chunk of change.

HH has never been on their level. Just the way it is. The cap isn’t the reason Harry will leave, another club over paying for him will be.
Just like Williams.

I think Toby, Kelly deserve it but we ( i think) have our top 4 or 5 being paid a higher % of the cap than most other clubs do.
That is my view, I might be wrong though.

Cogs has been one of our best for years. The media and some fans target on his back for 1 bad season, that everyone had that year, is ridiculous.

Both Cogs and Kelly had significantly higher offers available and stayed
That would be ok, nothing against Cogs but he really wanted to go to Hawthorn.
If he really wanted to go to Hawthorne, he would have went

Game report from last weekend's Allies vs SA U18 Championships game - Allies fast start too much for Croweaters

RMC BEST:

South Australia:
S. Draper, J. Delean, T. Goad, A. Holt, K. McAuliffe

Allies: R. Sanders, J. Walter, C. McKercher, J. Rogers, C. McCormack

Some scouting notes too, only a limited number available (PMBangers have you got a report on Harvey Thomas at all?) - some of these guys will be in the range of our early picks (provided we don't trade up for Harley Reid):

ALLIES:

#30
Charlie McCormack (Giants Academy/NSW-ACT)
02/04/2005 | 198cm | 77kg | Key Forward

McCormack and Walter were always going to be tough for SA’s Patton and McCabe to contain, given they’re more suited to attacking half-back roles. The Allies exposed the SA midfield early and McCormack was able to benefit in the air. His three goals were all relatively straightforward shots, but he worked hard to get his opportunities in a strong game.

#1 Ryley Sanders (Sandringham Dragons/Tasmania)
21/01/2005 | 186cm | 85kg | Midfielder

Sanders was best on ground at Thebarton Oval, with the Jason Horne-Francis lookalike doing as he pleased against SA. Obviously a natural footballer, he knew exactly where to run and along with Rogers and McKercher, gave the Croweaters a lesson in stoppage craft. He made decisions with ball in hand quicker than anyone else and had the skills to match. Sanders also crept forward to boot a couple of set shot goals in a terrific all-round performance.

#5 Colby McKercher (Tasmania Devils)
04/12/2005 | 181cm | 73kg | Midfielder

McKercher’s game might well be overshadowed by Sanders, but Colby was impressive in his own right. Like his fellow midfielders, McKercher found it easy to gather possession after possession early in the contest, as the Allies flicked it around to each other and tore up SA. McKercher used the ball with precision and showed a quick turn of pace. The Tasmanian has had an elite start to the year and his form is continuing on the representative stage.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA:

#12 Jack Delean (South Adelaide)
15/04/2005 | 181cm | 75kg | Forward

Delean was South Australia’s most damaging forward, with the classy small looking threatening all day. He didn’t get a heap of the ball, but made it count when he did. The Panthers product kicked SA’s opening goal and added a couple more, but his fourth – a snap from the pocket – was one of pure class. Earlier in the term he almost took mark of the century to show he can do it in the air and on the ground. This was the sort of performance many will have been looking for from Delean.

#38 Taylor Goad (South Adelaide)
28/04/2005 | 205cm | 90kg | Ruck

Goad may not have lit up the stats sheet in terms of possessions, but he rarely lost a tap when given the on-ball duties. His leap and reach allowed him to win hitouts even when he was out-positioned. He spent more time at full forward in the second term as Alex van Wyk did the ruck work, and subsequently Goad was quieter, but not before showing recruiters what he can do at representative level.

Yeah Thomas was really good, I hadn't really seen him deployed in the defensive half yet so it was handy to see that a) there is some more versatility there than originally thought and b) that may be a direction from AFL clubs (ours or others). His disposal and toughness for his size is really good, stood in front of leading opposition to take marks a couple of times which was a tick for me, but he's still a classic case of 'if only he was 5 cm taller' for the moment. I certainly like him as a rookie prospect for now, if he shows a solid lockdown game against a Nick Watson when the Allies take on Metro that'd go a long way for his draft hopes imo, especially given we struggle to contain the likes of Charlie Cameron, Izak Rankine, etc. at the moment

How's his speed? Both testing & in-game?

Watching the eagles get flogged week after week there is no way they go to the draft this year with pick 1. Their list manager will be falling over themselves to split into multiple picks. They need to bring in so many players.

Question is - would we trade 2 x top 10 picks for it.

In the end, it will come down to a number of factors. Clearly, how much teams (including GWS) are prepared to pay, and how much will Eagles demand/what will they accept in the end.

I'm not that keen on trading multiple picks for #1 again. I certainly hope we don't give up 3 first round picks. But the way that McCartney talks, it does seem we are looking at it.

I also think from what had been publicly stated we will be open to trade to get to pick number 1 again. But that would depend on pick number 1 being happy to stay with us after their initial 2 year contract and not go back “home”?

Yes, clearly no point trading if there was any doubt.

With Hawks' shock win over Lions today, they're the same points as us. If we lose to Norths, with respective draws for the rest of the year, it's not out of the question that we could end up with pick #3, or even pick #2 (Norths have a second game against WCE). If Reid was open to NSW, but less so WA, then you could see that we'd be interested in trading up. Of course, I still wouldn't do 3 picks to move up 1 or 2 positions. But I can imagine our club easily doing 2 first round picks to get Reid. If WCE got greedy, let them make the choice of selecting Reid or not. To me, we have multiple needs so multiple early picks would be highly beneficial.

west coast are on track to be even worse than our 2012 and 2013 seasons! I think they will trade their number 1 draft pick for multiple round one picks. It depends on how reasonable they are, but to be be frank I would rather have 2-3 round 1 draft picks to a single number 1 draft pick. The public pronouncements from our club however seem to indicate otherwise, unless we are bluffing.

Is there a player we could trade, rather than just picks. I am not suggesting Sam Taylor and 4 for pick 1.
Something like 4,10 Riccardi for 1.
I doubt they accept that.

An interesting article on draft picks and how Port took advantage of the 2018 super draft. It seems that this year’s draft is expected to be a super draft, so there’s some consolation if we don’t end up performing well this year.

Port also were able to target the right draft class to dive deep into, a superdraft of superdrafts. Similar whispers are circulating in some circles about the current draft class, with clubs in the October trade period having positioned to fight into this draft at the expense of the 2022 one.

WCE would want Sam Taylor to roll back one first round draft pick. Maybe Cogs might be acceptable for "part payment" but wouldn't cut much off the price. Which would mean a price less than his worth to us.

Port chose wisely. GWS chose poorly that year. It's worth noting that we could have drafted two of those 3 players. Only Rozee was gone before our pick - we selected Caldwell one ahead of Butters, and Hately ahead of Duursma. Imagine if we had those two running around in our team at the moment.

Take Sam Taylor's name out ya goddamn mouth
