If you check the stats, he clearly should be the front runner for a nomination this week. Just depends on if they want to reward an individual performance or go back to the annoying 'body of work' nomination.

Reckon if Elijah Hewett has a good game he will get it

Otherwise cooper Harvey kicking 3 against hawks or Johnson for body of work are the biggest challengers

Edit: could be Noah long body of work too, let's be honest it's probs a body of work that steals it

When he builds his core will be a very solid AFL player , Will stand up in those tackles and distribute by hand look at Rory Laird slow as treacle , Tackles well , positions himself well and has a strong core , Erasmus is taller , he is going to be ok just going to take a little longer like many of the COVID effected drafts , Just no competition for a couple of years set them back , just be patient.

Eras our Laird and Johno our Dawson? That would be nice. If Will Brodie could get a work ethic like Keays we will have a pretty formidable midfield.

He just takes a little too long to dispose of the ball by foot and hand. Then under pressure or gets caught. But every game played he gets a little better. Hopefully he can start to add a bit of size this coming pre-season.

Thought he played quite well and moves well up and down the ground.
That's just the fact the game hasn't slowed down for him enough yet. Only 10ish games in (with very little consistency). Give him another 5 or 6 on the trot and it'll happen. Very excited to see what he becomes.

I thought he was fine. The one glaring error that resulted in a Sydney goal, a bit two touch but that was true for guys twice as experienced as him.

Competed, worked back and presented himself as an outlet despite our backs not using him.

If you are slow, then I think you need to have elite disposal to be a really good player in the AFL. Bit of a Sam Mitchell type. I'm not sure Neil is....

Sam Mitchell was about 10cm smaller than Erasmus. At that height I'd agree with you.
Good point. I think you do need something going for you if you want to be an elite midfielder in the AFL. Either speed, extraction ability (Brodie), disposal, good overhead (fyfe). I just don't think you'll end up being a brilliant player if what you have is some footy nous and are 190cm and 90kgs.
With all due respect that probably describes half the midfielders playing in state leagues. The harsh reality is Erasmus is one of the slowest players over 10-20 metres at the club.

Don't get me wrong, I really hope he makes it, and we are seeing this year with Henry that you've got to be careful writing off anyone early, but I just don't think he has the tools in his kitbag to be an elite AFL player. (Despite his improvement this year, I still don't think Henry is that great to be honest).

Maybe, but its too early to tell.

I'm not writing off anyone with a similar work ethic and will to Brayshaw, but knock yourself out if you are.

To me, unless he can turn himself into an inside contested beast I don’t see it.

All that said, his tackling and ability to break tackles for a 19 year old kid is top notch.

He can find the ball, which is a talent in itself. Personally I think he can iron out the mistakes. Some of the mistakes were because he doesn’t have quite enough strength yet to shake the tackle. Which will come. His kicking is long, his contested work is amazing.

The waddle run reminds me of Barlow.

I only caught the last qtr but he looked awful in that.

Gifted Sydney that goal when he could have easily given the quick give to his right instead of turning left towards goal into the tackle, then the turnover at the CBD when he missed a 5m handball to Treacy by 3m under no pressure.

Yeh it’s a stark contrast from last week when he was one of our best against the best team in the land & many were calling for a rising star nomination.
Lets face it if he hasn’t got at 19years & 8 months of age & 18 months in the system he’ll never have it.

Delist.

I think last night demonstrated more than anything, the results of inexperience. The two mistakes in the last that lead to Sydney goals were something Mundy doesn’t do, there’s half the chance we win the game without those errors. I’d also be confident with another 50 games and 3 preseasons, Ras doesn’t make them either.

The progress is there each week though and I still think the same on Ras, think the ceiling is Parker / Cunnington type if he puts on weight which is exactly what the team needs. Just need to persist with him

He tried to take on a bit much and got caught out. The instinct will serve him well with 3 or 4 pre seasons.
He fended off a player and broke a tackle early on when I was watching. The problem was he tried to do it again and again. He has come from PSA where he can beast his way out of congestion. What he has found at WAFL and AFL is that isn’t the case. He needs to be better at taking the first option. Hopefully those hard lessons of the last quarter will drum home the importance of firing off first option handball.

Seen the same thing happen with MJ. They both are having some hard lessons and need to get the ball on quicker.

Agree. They both need intensive training in taking the first option in congestion.
