So North get their own pick (currently 2) plus a band 1 FA compo for McKay (would be pick 3) and the ability to prelist Sanders who is a top 10 prospect. They also have Ports 1st round pick (currently 17)

They add that group to a playing list containing Sheezel, Wardlaw, Phillips, LDU and Thomas who were all top 10 picks - top 5 with the exception of Thomas. Simpkin (12), McDonald (8), Logue (8), Stephenson (6), Bonar (11) and Powell (13) are all other first round picks on their list. McDonald (28) is the oldest of them

That would make 6x top 5 picks, 5x top 10 and 4 other first round picks on their list in 2024. Of that 15 total, 11 are already on their list

Ziebell (9), Cunnington (5), McKay (21) and Corr (14) are other first round picks on their list but are coming to the end of their careers or leaving the club (McKay)

All under the tutelage of what most pundits describe as the greatest coach of this century.

By way of comparison these are our first round picks of a similar age on our list :

Sheed (11)
Ginbey (9)
Hewett (14)
Petrevski-Seton (6)
Duggan (11)
Chesser (14)

Assuming we don’t split pick 1, Reid will make it 7 first round picks of which only one (Reid) is top 5. We also have Kelly who wasn’t a first rounder but cost us two first round picks plus sizeable change

Quite the contrast

We also have Gaff (4), Naitanui (2), Shuey (18) and Hurn (13) on our list but only one or two will survive into next year before finishing up

Tell me again why North should be getting any assistance like prelisting Sanders
Probably because we won a premising in 2018

It’s the biggest load of nonsense with no truth behind it. Some on the Melbourne board are claiming he’s just B grade anyway so why would they give much up for him.
Fair to say and probably understandable but a lot of supporters from other clubs haven’t watched much of the Eagles or Oscar of late.
It's the nature of opposition fans from every club to devalue a potential trade target, for some reason.

Just from that West article about Nis seeking an extention

"
Long-time West Coast chief executive Trevor Nisbett is believed to be chasing a two-year extension to his tenture, despite calls for a circuit-breaker sacking at the club.

Nisbett, 66, is contracted to the end of next season, but wants to remain at the helm until the end of 2026 when the club expects to be emerging from a major rebuild.

The West Australian Football Commission owns the Eagles’ licence and has the power to remove the West Coast board, but not the executive team.

"
So he gets an extension, the WAFC sacks the board, and the new board sack him and then have to pay him out the new deal.

Classic Eagles behaviour.

Then 2026 rolls around

"Nisbett applying for a 4 year extension to see the club through a period of anticipated finals success"

Or

"Nisbett seeking tenure until retirement due to other people fluffing the rebuild and him being the only one capable to navigate the club through an rebuild period during a time of new expansion clubs joining the AFL."

Just **** off already.

West Coast chairman Paul Fitzpatrick admits the club’s list management suffered by the revolving door of key staff in recent years, but has backed Rohan O’Brien to lead the Eagles out of the mire.
West Coast’s board held their annual Strategy and Planning meeting in Melbourne ahead of their clash against Carlton, and received a presentation from list manager O’Brien about their current squad.
He was elevated from national recruiting manager to list manager in February 2021, replacing ex-captain Darren Glass who took over from Brady Rawlings in October 2019. Glass left to pursue opportunities outside of football while Rawlings accepted a job at North Melbourne.

Fitzpatrick said the constant change in such a senior position had posed many challenges and no club could afford such a high turnover of list managers.
“That’s pretty clear,” Fitzpatrick told The West Australian.
“Losing Brady Rawlings and Darren Glass was not what we wanted. We obviously would have rathered them to be long-term list managers. What we have now is I think a very talented list manager. Rohan is very experienced.”

Reuben Ginbey ran at training today, despite being set for hamstring surgery.

O’Brien detailed his plan to re-build the struggling Eagles from an ageing group of premiership players into the next wave of talent.
The Eagles have seven players on the wrong side of 30 on their list, plus 29-year-old Elliot Yeo and they have combined to miss more than half of the games played this season.

Captain Luke Shuey and premiership skipper Shannon Hurn are both out of contract at the end of the season and ruckman Nic Naitanui’s future is in doubt despite being contracted.
But Fitzpatrick said O’Brien’s address focused on how the club would recruit young talent instead of detailing an exit strategy for the older players.
“That’s not something we need to address in strategic planning,” he said.
“Some of those discussions will take care of themselves. Whether it’s this year or next, that has been happening for two years now. We said goodbye to Josh (Kennedy) and Jack Redden last year and Brad Sheppard the year before. These things happen naturally.

“It’ll be all about drafting well and drafting in young talent with the low picks we’ll have. We did that last year and even the year before we went to the draft and targeted young talent.
“We’ll certainly be doing that again. That is what we’ve got to do now. We’ve got to focus on the young talent and bring more young talent into the club and develop them well.”

Ok at what point does the media question if the draft is broken? And I don't mean the #mummygate broken where-by VM boys refuse to go interstate.

First lets bring up Gold Coast and the academies.
So they have a so-so year, disappointing even but no-where near as disastrous as us but they will walk away from the draft with what looks to be three picks inside the first dozen. All for what exactly? To grow the game in QLD? To counter the 'mass exodus' of interstate players leaving? Something that doesn't happen up the road any more now that the Lions are well run and umm winning again. Funny that.
For us to get the same hand, we'll either have to split the first pick, something we haven't had this century or lose a reigning B&F, AA potential, next in line captain to do so.

Now let's bring up North.
So for an average/good-ish (this is subjective) but completely injury-prone (not subjective) Full Back that they've invested seven or so years into, they are willing to let go since the reward to get a Top 3 pick is more than getting the best out of a potential A- player.
Now I don't think he'll get big money in FA but with the magical secret herbs and spices formula, they'll get it as cover for it being a Priority Pick.
Getting a Top 3 pick used to mean you would have to go through a hell year like we have but with a couple of stars aligning, you can magically conjure up another one like its nothing.

To round out this rant, the academies.
Say we were red hot on Sanders and put a lot of time into him, now all of a sudden we aren't able to draft him since he's from the North academy that's located in Tassie but if they had won a handful more games, he wouldn't of qualified?

For all the flaws of the old priority pick of the early 00's, at least the rules were transparent and you could build through the draft. Now you need to be blessed with an amazing academy, have good sperm from your ex players or the very worse leach off the gws/gc when the times right.

Its nothing special.

I’m not sure but I think he’s saying we need more talent. Young talent to develop preferably lol

If West Coast still has the number one pick come round 24 it is theoretically tradeable, but it would take a trade offer bordering on ludicrous to get their attention.
The Eagles, who have flirted with the idea of trading the pick if it could get them multiple first round picks this season, are believed to be comfortable they could take and retain Victoria Country’s Harley Reid if they finish at the bottom of the ladder.

What sort of deal would it take to sway them?

Probably two picks inside of the top five of the draft.

The Eagles have not been swayed by the recent scuttlebutt that Reid might prefer that they did not draft him. He toured their facility at Mineral Resources Park when Victoria Country played WA in Perth three weeks ago and is understood to have told club officials he would happily come to WA if drafted by the club.

Eagles recruiters are set to visit Reid and his family in the next two weeks purely as a courtesy, to wish him the best for the remainder of the season, with a plan to make contact again in the lead up to the draft if they still hold the pick that would get him.

AFL talent ambassador Kevin Sheehan recently made it clear how valuable a talent he thought Reid was. He stated that if the Eagles could snare three first round draft picks, or two and a player from another club to hand over the pick which might get them Reid, he would consider it.

Otherwise, he said, he would take the player he views as “one out of the box”.

“I think you try and stretch it to three,” he told SEN earlier this month. “If you can get three players you might give up the first pick but you wouldn’t take two for a Harley. He might be that special player that really can do the Chris Judd type stuff if you like.

“He is pretty good but if you can get a third one in the deal – and that might be someone who has played a couple of years and is thrown in – a West Australian who is returning home as well as a couple of picks. A deal like that can really set your club up for the next three to five years. That might get the deal done. He looks to be one out of the box. I think you have got some bargaining power there if you are West Coast.”

Speculation that the Eagles might be prepared to split the number one pick if it netted them multiple players was fuelled by where West Australian talent is thought to sit in this draft.

Claremont defender/midfielder Daniel Curtin is rated a top five prospect, while Peel ruckman Mitch Edwards, Subiaco forward/mid Koltyn Tholstrup and Swan Districts defender Riley Hardeman are all rated inside the top 20.

Peel midfielder Clay Hall and East Fremantle mid/forward Koen Sanchez are believed to be inside the top 30 which would give the Eagles a lot of good options if they were, as Sheehan said, able to stretch a deal to three picks
Thanks. Definitely reads as we’re taking Reid unless we get an offer that suits us, gets us a Curtin and McKercher/Duursma type deal. Duffield seems to get pretty good Eagles mail, rather than what other clubs think we’ll do.

Can we just get genuine position players instead of players with "potential" to do other roles?

I want a rock solid FB, Genuine Mids etc.

No more Branders.
I think the disparity between Curtin and Brander is pretty extreme.
Curtin has proven that he can be a bona fide midfielder this year with excellent to elite numbers in multiple games at U18 Champs and Colts level.
You're comparing apples to oranges.

Hold on now Brander got 25+ possession in wafl senior. He's proven more then Curtin who is averaging that at Colts where little boys play.

You shouldn the praising Colts domination. You should be concerned if a drafty doesn't domainted Colts. That's delist material right there

Curtin will never be an AFL midfielder, setting yourself up for major disappointment imo.

He’s nowhere near the likes of Cripps, Bont or even Tom Green in terms of his agility and speed.

He lumbers like the KPP he is when in the middle, he’s not fluid, he might have a stint in there, but it’s no different to if you played Darling or Oscar Allen in there from a physical stand point.

Some 'ITKs' on the Dogs board apparently reckon Melbourne are going hard at Allen.

Makes zero sense for WCE/Allen to make a trade though. It's not like he's 28. He can also get paid more at WCE, without having to move to Melbourne.

I’d be pretty confident in saying it’s rubbish but at the same time Oscar is about to come into his prime, we’re probably not going to be good for at least 3-4 years at the minimum, it wouldn’t shock me if other clubs are asking the question and trying to sell him on a chance to contend now.

If Cripps is the measuring stick for speed, Curtin must be whale pace.

Curtin to the midfield feels very Griffin Logue areas.

He didn’t actually write that did he?

Look, I know they love putting the boots in and are desperate for everyone to be sacked, retired or traded but on WHAT ******* PLANET would trading Oscar Allen make any sense at all?

Idiot drunk.
Yes, in an article attributed to him he thought that all Essendon lacked was a top shelf tall forward and Allen should be their target.
All that I said was in the article, including the mid first round draft picks and Hine or Kelly as players to swap.
I found it unbelievable. Without thinking about it too hard they think a rebuilding club should have a fire sale for draft picks.
Because we are not a Victorian club we are okay with underselling our most talented players.

Talk about arrogance, there is arrogance. It’s okay for them to fleece us of everything.

Will we extend him, sack him or let his contract run out and part ways at the end of 2024?

So someone who has failed to produce the goods is seeking an extension for something that is due to expire in 18 months time!

Well flock me with a feather duster. You wonder where the malpractice of extending NicNat for 2 years and Gov for 2 years comes from . Both these guys extended when injured and well past their prime.

No, it is time to stop the rot. This should be a performance industry where winning means something. Somehow King Nissie I thinks he can stack a board and prolong his tenure.

Go and get the flock out of the building. If I was chair, it would be walking him out of the building for poor performance. What a bunch of soft clocks we have on our board if they think this is a good idea. A board of corallers who are afraid to flatten someone.
