It's a pretty damn good start compared to all the other candidates. What I like most is what he's done with ports midfield this year though. Premiership player too.

Coaching career
2023-current Port Adelaide midfield coach
2020-2022 Fremantle assistant coach
2016-2019 North Adelaide senior coach
2011-2015 Port Adelaide assistant coach

Resume not to dissimilar to fly

Im not convinced he will make the move to Melbourne
Only worked in SA and WA and only moved back to SA relatively recently
Given his age it’s not a stretch to say he has a young family and another move interstate and to one that none of them have ever lived in might be a spanner in the works
Possibly, but it depends on the contract he is offered.

Yes, but bc of age it puts him also out of the equation with the blokes you’ve mentioned. Not really a midfield I would like to come into being a coach. God those Hawks with no names made it look pretty ordinary for three quarters.

Blah blah blah. As usual you just waffle to avoid the question.
You said Cotchin was third best midfielder behind TT and Bolton, therefore ahead of Prestia, Hopper and Martin. A stupid statement. Own it.

Never mind next season , I’m curious how they go in the finals . You never know with a coach how they go until how they go . The great unknown is how successfully they can engage with the group and take them on a journey ,,I’ve listened to prez and impressed we are in good hands for a qty decision to be made.
They'll be lucky to win a final as I think they've over achieved and have still a lot of convincing to do. Home Finals is their biggest asset.

what about VFL coaches that have had success? i mean after all Mcrae was our VFL coach
McRae was part of the most successful dynasty side in recent times and not surprising he has taken much of our game style to the pies . What would Carr bring to Richmond a mix of Freo and Ports game-plan . 🤦‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️
Let’s see how port goes now that the pressure builds in the backend of the year .
IIRC His previous stint at Port had two bottom four finishes and the highest they finished was 5th .
Based upon experience as an assistant at AFL clubs Yze is a mile ahead and so is Teague .

Wonder if thats a coincidence that Freo's midfield was flying last year, not so much this year and now Ports Midfield is on fire.

Both clubs perceived improvement within the midfield has come after maligned high draft picks have joined the clubs and got themselves in decent shape . Don’t think it should be any surprise that a highly rated junior changes clubs gets fit and reaches near their potential .

Gold Coast hasn't won a vfl flag?

Has their coach done the level 4 coaching accreditation?
Have they played afl?
Have they played in a premiership?
Have they been an assistant at afl level for 9 years?

Terrible comparison.
Rhys Jones was a successful state league coach my point stands results are deceiving as the competitions are lip sided and don’t have comp balance like AFL , if you cant see the difference then I can’t help ya

You're carrying on like it's not a good thing to have coached your own team to a flag, it is for sure, at any level . Plus the AFL career, plus the premiership, plus the 9 years as an assistant coach at AFL level etc. etc. You won't find a much better apprenticeship.

North Adelaide finished last on 1 win the year before Carr took over. 3 years later Carr took them to their first flag in 27 years. It's a huge feather in his cap.

State league is way deceiving, should we be looking at GC VFL coach by your reckoning . It’s the bal of assets that’s wins at that level like when woodville sanfl won gf , they had dan menzel and stengle starring , not sure the coach was the difference
North Adelaide won the flag from 5th against the minor premiers under Carr, which is a pretty big achievement.

Carr fits what Richmond are after. What I like about him, has coached North Adel to a premiership and experience as an assistant at two other clubs.

We're in good hands

I thought it was timely to provide members and supporters with an update on the process we have put in place for the appointment of our next senior coach.

Since Damien Hardwick resigned, the Club has spent significant time clarifying exactly what attributes and skills we are looking for in our next senior coach. This process has been completed and we will now move to the next stage of developing a short-list of candidates to participate in panel interviews.

The panel conducting these interviews will be led by CEO Brendon Gale and include General Manager- Football Performance, Tim Livingstone and our General Manager- Football Talent, Blair Hartley. Club vice-president Henriette Rothschild will also sit on this panel; her vast experience in key executive appointments and shaping high performing teams, will be invaluable.

Externally we have engaged Paddy Steinfort and Frank Ponissi to be involved with the panel interview process.

Paddy is a former Richmond player who is now Performance Director at Football Australia. Prior to Football Australia, Paddy has held many high-performance roles at sporting organisations including the Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Blue Jays and the Philadelphia Eagles. He brings a wealth of diverse experience to our deliberations.

Frank Ponissi has been General Manager of Football at the Melbourne Storm since 2007. He has been a highly successful coach and administrator both in Australia and internationally. Frank works closely with Storm head coach Craig Bellamy, forming an elite partnership that has delivered four premierships and seven grand final appearances. He brings tremendous experience to the panel, understanding high performance environments and coaching that delivers sustained success.

We look forward to providing further updates as the process unfolds. While there is no firm timeline on appointing our senior coach, we anticipate the process to be completed by September.

Good mix of internal and external people on the interview panel for the coaching job.

Suspect in the coming weeks we'll get a list of names who have been shortlisted to interview. Would expect Mini + the usual suspects (Carr, Yze) Not sure they would be interviewing more than 4-5 candidates once they narrow the initial list of applicants.

Things are heating up, excited to see which way the club ends up going with it!

Interesting read. I look forward to seeing the names :)

His coaching resume at AFL level is not filled with great success .
He may very well be a terrific SANFL but unless Richmond plan on joining the SANFL the next Richmond coach will be coaching in the AFL competition .

Is that it? I hadn't heard of him other than from corn so whats the attraction.....fresh eyes over Mini
Highly rated by Port Adelaide and Fremantle where he was/is an Assistant. Premiership player and has coached North Adel to success. I believe my view he is the best available. Having 2 ex Port players take us to the premiership haha.
