GC may be willing to sacrifice Hollands for points, in which case maybe we could structure it in a similar way to the Caldwell trade, but I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay that.

Getting our hands on 5 without dangling a future first looks basically impossible at this point because our assets are in the wrong spot, I suspect the route to getting another pick in the first round will need to involve a 3rd club or waiting until other moves are made.

Dogs are in pole position to trade 13 and 16 for 5 and change, which benefits both parties, but in that example once 13 and 16 are with the Suns then you could do 2 second round selections and get back pick 13 and the Suns win with points in a pretty significant way.

I’d probably trade our F1 for the GCS pick at this point. I’d gamble our F1 won’t be as low as pick 4. Then swap some picks around to ensure GCS have enough points for Walters et al.

But how does that work?

They would want what we don't have and we would want what they want as well.

Unless we decide we want to trade down or on draft night they realise they have too many points and they want to offload a pick for a future pick.

Why would you move a natural winger in Durham away while moving a non natural winger in Hollands in.
I thought Hollands played his best footy as a winger. Apparently that is incorrect so I’ll retract that thought. Regardless we need more depth on the wing/running power.

I’m not exactly sure on the mechanics. I’m sure we could make something work with the likely departures of Zerk and D’Ambrosia.

Maybe it’s Hollands that comes to us via the points picks.

Edit: they likely only need another 300 points to match bids. This is a pick in the early third round. I reckon they’ll be after an F1 for their pick

Dee’s and dogs are by far better trade candidates for the suns picks.

Both would be willing to offer multiple firsts.

It’s just not a logical trade partner for Essendon. Especially when the cycle goes

Hire coach
Y1. Over preform and make finals (or just miss) against an easy draw
Top up talent falsely believing you have a chance to contend

Y2. Finish close to the bottom against a tougher draw.

Fire coach

If the cycle continues it’s better to trade our first next year after losing against a harder draw and not being rated

Which firsts are they offering up? Because if they’re in this draft they get eaten up by bids.

We’re likely to finish lower than both of those clubs next year. I reckon our F1 will be more valuable.

Alot of water to go under the bridge with the suns pick 4 as to whether they go a future pick or tmneed points this year

That depends a bit on whether a Hollands or/and Flanders are departing

If both depart they would be only focusing on next year's pick. On its alone only the Eagles and North 1st would be possible without any extra addition

Hawks probably F1 and Dogs 2nd this year (but again that would depend on Hollands and/or Flanders departing whether thats needed)

We would have to add more than just our F1 in any situation, considering the comp from 5-13 is very even

I reckon the hawks would be a bit nervous about trading an F1. I know they’ve finished well, but they’re still 16th.

As for us, I reckon we would need to add something extra to our F1. Maybe the compo for Zerk, which will probably be a late second rounder

Hawks are a couple of bad injuries away from being 18th.

If Sicily, Lewis, Day or Newcombe go down for any significant amount of time they are in trouble.

Aside from Newcombe, they’ve all had durability/suspension issues too

A future pick 1 for 4 (That has a clear top 4)

Wouldnt be horrible horribly bad imo. Not ideal but not horrendous

But the suns id imagine would need the 2nd tied to the dogs thrown in aswell id think

Gold Coast's dream scenario is finishing with pick 4. Melbourne offer pick 5 and 24 for 4, then the Dogs offer 10-15 and their F1 for 5 to get ahead of a Croft bid. Gold Coast use the Dogs pick as a bargaining chip draft night.

Is Zerk out the door is he?

A potential for pick 4 is Richmond if Dusty wanted to go to Gold Coast. Say Richmond pay most of his salary for next year and add in a f2.
