Golumless
A bigger deal out west.
My issue with Keays is his midfield work has stagnated/regressed over the last 20 or so games. His in close work is not actually that good and he often fails to do the first give.
As a half forward I prefer him to Murphy and McHenry however.
Yup, I think we're done with the days of Keays being a midfielder. Crouch coming back is a pretty big signal with that.
He does the defensive forward role rather well though, and if his current performance keeps up, we're likely in a position that it isn't worth upgrading unless we get lucky with a rookie pick or something along those lines.
He's not really a 20 disposal a game half forward. He's had around half a dozen almost entirely midfield games where he's racked up close to 30 touches that skew those numbers. It's closer to 15 disposals a game, but whatever.
I'm not convinced it's hard to find someone who can play his role at least as well as him, without the same flaws in their game. If I'm wrong, I guess we won't be replacing him for a while!
I lean the other way, it is hard to find players who play that role well. Bottom of the rotation forwards can be a graveyard for footballers, especially younger lads.
The other thing to factor is ideally we're not spending a lot of money on Keays, and we really shouldn't be anyway seeing how top-heavy our forward line is. We're not built in a way that you want good forwards here because of a lack of elite talent. It's the opposite, where it's just gap-filling because you have the elite forwards.
