I think you’ll find it was Darcy given he got 50% more hit outs than Cox.

Not in the finals when it mattered.

Game 1 of finals - Cox 34 hitouts to 14.
Game 2 of finals - Cox 27 hitouts to 18
GF - Cox 31 hitouts to 19.

Cox was the #1 ruck for the finals.

2022 Blicavs had almost as many as Stanley so it was pretty well split 50/50
1st final - Stanley 22 hitouts to 8.
PF - Stanley (subbed out) 18 hitouts to 16
GF - Stanley 27 hitouts to 15.

Stanley was the #1 ruck for the finals.

Which also shows that teams are going with two mobile rucks not 1 lumbering one.

Meh. Rucks dont matter. Go with one average one like the Hawks/Tigers dynasty. Don't play a genuine ruck like the last 3 premiership winners.

History shows as long as you play one that is semi capable - you are completely fine come finals. Essendon taught us you definitely need to play one.

Really? Who?
Misread the question, my bad.

He'd be in almost every sides best 22 based on this year's form. Wouldn't win the BnFs though.

Having said that he'd be high up in a lot of them.

I didn't see the count, where was he at the halfway mark ?? I thought he'd fly home in the back half.

I think you’re missing what I’m looking for?
I’m looking for a mobile player, call it a ruck or whatever.
And I think you’re saying the same thing.

Not really. The Hawks/Richmond dynasties didnt have this.

I think if we gave Strachan or Grundy or O'Brien 23 games this year our results would have been the same.

Putting Matt Crouch in same basket as Laird this year is a sign you didn’t watch much football

I’ve rated Matt’s last 2 seasons after having written him off , he’s evolved

Also important re which players are around him

I wouldn’t have Laird best 22 anymore

Great to see Keays rewarded for a stellar season, also loved that Maxy polled well as he was so consistent throughout the year.

I thought Soligo tired towards the end of the year, so it’s exciting to see what he can do next year, and Worrell will poll well next year with a full season

I thought Keane would have made our top 10.

Keane …. Stiff !

Not sure on stats but surely he was our best and most prolific intercept mark

Congraulations to Jordan and Ben on the B& F result. Keays has his limitations but you can't fault the guy's endeavour. Always gives 100% and he's made big improvements to his disposal. that'll never be his 1 wood though.

Hope I'm posting this in the correct thread. It seems to have morphed into the ROB ruck thread

But you are and have throughout the season. That’s why you posted last night about English not making their top ten and your post this morning. I get we are stuck with him but that doesn’t mean valid criticism of him during the year wasn’t valid and it’s now been supported again by the coaches.

Anyway I think we’ve both agreed we have needed some developing ruckman on our list and yet the club has continued to ignore that, so when ROB does get dropped we have someone with at least some development already to replace him. The thing with ROB and all senior players is they aren’t dropped after one or two bad games, we carry them for longer and in ROBs case it’s worse as we don’t have another option besides Strachan.
I really don’t think he has been talking up ROB

He’s wanted us to take a developing ruck for 2-3 years

If we want to upgrade ROB this off season we now would have to split pick 4 or would have had to overpay a free agent like English ( who ROB towelled up when we played them )

Having a go at Jordan sweet would have been a good idea but that might have come at a cost of Edwards or Ryan , I prob would have still had a crack at it though

How would you get it done and what would you do ? Who you think is worth having a crack at ? Looks like we tried re Ned Moyle , he was a good one to target

If we are to target someone they HAVE to be a clear upgrade on ROB

We’d all be fuming if we had Grundy eating up salary cap , he’s probably one of the the most overpaid players in comp re output

The fact that some posters rated Rachele's season was shit is more mind boggling despite the statistics stating otherwise.

I think you can safely say that a number of posters on here clueless when it comes to football.

Rachele had a good year on every measure.

If that is rachele’s base from here then we could end up with something a bit special

Especially if he can continue to work on his endurance and full season output

How far are we going to go back in time though?
Strategies change.
I don’t get why you’d prefer a tall average player to a tall more mobile less average player?

Well I’m pleased that Laird didn’t finish in top 5 and Murphy not in the top 10. Rory has been in the top 3 every year from 2017.

Gives me hope for our R1 team.

If you follow any of players on Instagram, there is a tight group of young players. The chances of Murphy being in the leadership group should be quite low in 2025.

given crouch came back at all this year after the shoulder was frankly a miracle

Nicks could be kidnapped, held at gunpoint, and still make the experience sound positive 😂

The problem I have is that history shows that continuing in the same way with nothibg but faith hasn't actually got the results so if we just play the 1% game this is unlikely to work if it hasn't to here

hope i am wrong

Strategies change.

Over the past 30 years ruckman have steadily become less and less important.

Over the past 10 years - less teams invest high draft picks into that position (rightly so).

I don’t get why you’d prefer a tall average player to a tall more mobile less average player?

Because I dont think it makes a difference.

I think the blueprint is to invest everywhere else and then just land whatever you can at the ruck position. To me there is no difference on field between having a slightly below ruckman and an elite ruckman.

He has definitely talked up and defended ROB when he’s been criticised, he clearly just did it by throwing up how other ruckman performed in their B&F, which were all better than ROB.

If we can’t find a clear upgrade on ROB given what our coaches have thought about his last 3 years what have they been doing?

He’s talked up ROB at times and been critical at other times

At what expense do we replace him though ? And what out of trades and picks would we have been willing to sacrifice

And who ? And where from

Ned Moyle was prob the one, wouldn’t have come real cheap
