Winning games of footy is and should always be independent of list management/strategy.
Correct, and people are having a cow, at the prospect of not getting a 185cm utility.

Eddie Ford, Cam Zurhaar, Paul Curtis (at least in preseason), TT, Sheezel have shown the ability to play around the ground, kick goals, some attend CBAs and so on. We also have Brayden "Sausage" George to add to the mix next season.

Not having Harley Reid, is the same as not having JHF, a 185 cm guy, or for that matter not having Cam Rayner because we blew that spoon is as well.

We survived, and yesterday was the best ball movement I have seen from us in years (probably since the game we smashed Port after that Geelong debacle).

Does anyone think our list needs Curtin, McKercher or Watson, more than we need Harley Reid?

Not sure you are across how the bidding system works
Yeh, you cant bundle up points to secure NGA prospects if they are inside top 10 or is it first round? The required pick needs to be used to ensure situations like JUH doesn’t happen again. So if Sanders is bid on at pick 8 then we’d need to match that pick with pick 8. Right?

Your last comment, do you mean we do need those 3 players more them Reid or saying we need reid more?

Tbh I was not over the moon at pick 1. You HAVE to take Reid. But he doesn't fit our list needs as you've highlighted. He is probably better then them, but the team wouldn't benefit as much as getting watson/curtin/mckercher.

Don’t know how true but hearing
Sanders 50% discount
Mckercher at pick 2
Watson pick 3
Hoping to get gc pick 4 and splitting it to get caddy and Edwards
I would love Edwards.

I would assume that splitting it would be Essendon or GWS.

Along those lines, if we know that Curtin will make it to GC pick then Essendon or GWS can launch from there to pick 1 with Curtin + F1.

Say we get GC pick, then...

WC get pick 5 (Curtin), GWS F1
NM get pick 7 (Caddy), pick 11 (Edwards)
GWS get pick 1

I'm not a track watcher re draft prospects so do appreciate all the comments here. Interesting that a friend of mine's son (NM Supporter) has played with Reid and watched his career building and doesn't rate him as high as most others.

So why did we win yesterday if we’re so keen on Harley?
I think we won yesterday - because the players decide the outcome once on the field. A bunch of players who wanted to taste victory after such a crap year and the attributes of a kid that's never seen the level wouldn't have entered their thinking.

Even if it did, they'd look at Sheezel and Wardlaw and think they lasted to picks 3 and 4 - so pick 2 is just fine.

If we have to match sanders bid we can’t downgrade any picks or they will disappear in matching sanders bid

IMHO, we have an abundance of Reids in different forms already, and have Brayden George to add to the mix.

Heck, an actual off season around fitness might see Zurhaar and Paul Curtis go to another level, if you are after those power guys.

IMHO, we need a genuine small forward, or a 195 cm utility, or a gut runner, more than we need Reid.

Did Melbourne really need a huge investment in Grundy, when they had Gawn?

We can spend what we have early on so say they get a bid at 6 we need to match the points (minus what ever the NGA discount is if there is one), so there goes Ports pick plus what ever else to meet the cost..

17 other clubs let that happen ?

🔧
l cant see it happening because Brady has said the we will be looking at getting talls in this draft where possible. So if we dont get Reid the it should be Curtin. Does finishing 17th and not last make it more justifyable for the AFL to give us a PP after our first pick now that our pick is #2 and not #1?
