So let me get this right.

WC are going to trade pick 1 for pick 2 and at best all we will get is the Port compo chucked in which is currently 16 but will most likely be around 22-23 after GC three academy boys, hawks and Dogs father and sons, North band 1 compo and North bidding on Sanders as well.

Even then some of you expect us to give you our second back as well?

All because you think just because there is a player from W.A we must be desperate for him even though we’ve never had a retention issue and just so happen to need midfielders way more then Key backs???

Curtin is a great pick for you guys, definitely should take him.
Yeah I can’t see any trades happening, unless it’s just for shits and giggles and we swap 1 and 2 just cos.

Reid won’t do what JHF did, he is a loyal and professional kid. If he goes west, my tip is that at a minimum he spends 4 years over there. Give West Coast plenty of time to build and re develop their culture. They have a good history of holding onto Vic talent (excluding Judd).

Curtin I’ve been told is the same, loves the west and his family but is that much of a flight risk.

If we get Sanders as assistance, surely we looking at bringing in Colby. Seeing Harry and George bond as they have, a repeat dose would be amazing.

Curtin and Watson is a no brainer as it stands, and then we have Sanders too. Something for each third of the ground.

Drafting Mckercher will continue to make the same error we've been making the last 4-5 seasons where we're just saturating the list with midfielders. He's a quality player no doubt but we're stacked with midfielders to the point where all of Powell, Phillips, Lazzaro, Simpkin and TT looked good on ball yesterday, and then we need to add LDU, Wardlaw and Sanders to that somehow without even worrying about another mid like Mckercher. Then we can also give Sheezel and Zurhaar bursts on ball too. Curtin and Watson can both play through the middle too.

Depth is good, having too much depth in one position just hurts your list in other places.

The murmurings that we're into guys like Stephens, Ralphsmith, Fisher and Henry fill me with confidence that we're looking to fill the outside run hole on the cheap rather than with a top pick.

Thats not happening. We aren’t the worst team in the comp. After yesterday, the AFL will look at all the outs we had and we won by 6 goals and gives us a second round pick that must be traded. Forget Sanders, not happening.

We aren’t getting Sanders. Not for free.

Clarko will have his lawyers letter typed, dated & signed to send to Gil.

" Here Al, Sanders. Enjoy "

Happy for you to point out where I specified we would be getting him for free.

We're getting him - and we'll still have two top 3 picks after that happens.
You think the AFL will allow us to use pick 25 (whatever it is after GC, Fsons) straight up for a top ten kid? We’ll need to use the pick he is nominated at.

I can see it happening now. Reid and Curtin will both be at west coke by 2025. We’ll lose another “talent” whilst we have been dwelling at the bottom of the ladder. We’ll end up losing pick 2 for a return pick 6-8. This situation has the potential to blow up in our faces, again. Wow what a win though.

Chill, mate.

From all reports Dan Curtin is not some sort of go-home flight risk. Kids from WA know it's unlikely they get to stay in WA when they nominate for the draft, with only 2/18 teams there.

I understand frustration but it's misplaced IMHO.

Reid would have been nice, but he's a midfielder at heart and as such doesn't fit a hard 'need' for us. Now we can sit with picks 2 and 3 and take Curtin and Watson and really add some much needed talent to the edges of our list.

Im with you Souup Curtin/Watson/Sanders is my preferred 3 picks in the first round even if Sanders cost us Ports pick

After the sheezelaw combo last year, I’m going to blindly trust in the club this offseason to get it right again.
We have two first round picks and may have more, in a draft with what sounds like a very good top end across a variety of position types. You never know how it will turn out longer-term but we should have exciting talent and good characters coming in again.

I PM’d a couple a month or two ago, Way before we had pick 1 for a week. Way before he it came out that he wasn’t keen to go to WA. We’re going after Reid.
I asked some questions to people who know all the top kids in this draft. Harley Reid is the best player in this draft and it’s not even close.
People seriously don’t think the club has a little idea what the assistance package might be?
How can you ask these contracted players to come over without picks? How can you plan for Sanders if you don’t know if we have to match or not.
All this stuff doesn’t happen in a week lol.

I have no doubt that the club has a fair idea of what the assistance package is.

Is anyone thinking like me about west coast taking this Curtin kid at #1 . I was reading about his attributes seems an impressive player more so than the 3 players ahead of him in the draft . ?

IMHO to have lost yesterday would have brought more heat than we’ve seen.

Guttersnipe Barrett was already laying the ground work for it. ‘Their medical records should be audited’

Winning yesterday fundamentally means we are not tanking for picks it legitimises all our losses and when you take a broad view of our losses over a multi year period we’ve still lost more than Gold Coast leading in to 19.

It makes it an easier story to tell by the AFL. It’s not mired in a tanking debate.

Just like the future of the club cannot be pinned to whether we get one kid or not. The decision of assistance cannot be pinned to a single game.

They’ll be taking Reid. Reid is not slipping to pick 2.
Then we obviously take Curtin . But remember cadman was no pick 1 or 2 or even 3 . There’s that away from home factor clubs consider .
