He’s also OOC next year and a RFA, so if there’s any risk they might prefer to trade now.

I don't believe King is a free agent next year, just OOC.

Naughton is out of contract next year as well as another swingman type option, which I reckon the club would be keen on.

Not that I think either is very likely, but I guess you never know.

Reckon Gold Coast will back themselves in to make finals next year so losing him as a FA will give them pretty average compo coming back. Trading King now makes a lot of sense especially if doing so allows them to move up the draft order ahead of the Walter bid but that begs the question, why not just trade him to North?
North are surely going at kids with these top picks. Plus of course if Melbourne can convince King to nominate us as his preferred destination then that effectively ends it.

Agree these are the 2 we’ll be having a good crack at.

I’m almost certain King is an RFA at the end of 2024 but happy to be corrected.

Free agent in 2026.

"He won’t qualify for free agency until 2026, so it makes sense for King to see if the Hardwick era will finally deliver the club success he is desperate to help realise"

Hawkins said last night that he was going around again next year unless he left out the minor detail of which club.
The King and I was a popular play, but the sign on the front of the theatre read 'No Hawkers.'

Please let it be Oscar Allen. Please let it be Oscar Allen. Please let it be Oscar Allen.

If there’s not a great target that’s achievable, I really hope we just try to push up the draft and take the best kids.

I’m not in favour of trading out some decent capital for anything too risky.

Yeah, it's a tough balance atm - We have obvious needs to help us stay in flag contention, but also need some top end young talent for the sake of list balance IMO.

I don't mind the idea of any of Marshall, Naughton or King due to their age profiles.

Scamming another first round compo

In no world is Gresham or Shiel worth a first rounder, annoyingly it would come right before our pick.

So Essendon get Gresham + a first rounder and Dylan Shiel’s fat contract off their books? Did Mark Robinson float this trade?

Trade Period sucks, bring on Random Updates about the Offseason Travels of C-Grade Players Period.

Yeah no idea why saints would go for it

Dodoro has form remember he rorted the Daniher FA deal.

Most likely St Kilda keeps the compo pick but sends a 2nd rounder back
If Saints don't do that deal they would still get a second for Gresham anyway. They get very little out of this deal no matter what.

I don't get that though. Literally every single club that is horrendously poor has 'dug their own hole'. Whether it be coaching mistakes, list management mistakes, club admin mistakes etc. That's exactly why a club is down the bottom, mistakes. So I don't understand that logic.
Not quite D168.

The Prime time TV slots over the decades, has had a LOT to do with clubs strength, and therefore they're inner culture. Cellar Dwellers learn to lose.
The big clubs get bigger, and the lesser clubs shrink, in all ways.

This has been a soup of the AFL's making, over past generations.

TV rights has corrupted the whole shebang. Handouts does not even out the playing field.
