Who exactly would our midfield be then, and how will their future pan out better than Oliver's 4 Blueys? I think perhaps in your rush to push this narrative you've missed the point that you'd be trading out a proven star, one of our best ever players, for a draft gamble or two. If you can't name exactly who replaces him and how their career will pan out definitively then you're taking risks that clearly our list manager would not consider for 1 second.

There's certainly a lot of posts by your and your mates for something that will never actually happen.

Oliver is signed until he's 33, you reckon he's close to requesting a trade?

Should we go through our entire list and the trade scenarios around them or is this just an Oliver thing that the logic applies to?
Yes it would be a risk. You would assess the players you could get from such a trade and decide whether that could be better for the club than keeping 1 star. But it's also a risk to sit on your hands and do nothing and just expect it all to work out. It's a conversation about list management philosophy. I don't know why you get so twisted up about it.

Today would probably be the only time I've meaningfully engaged in the topic beyond one or two posts.

Oliver is a good topic because he is in the position of being both a high-quality player and of a type we have a lot of. I've suggested multiple trade scenarios that have little to no chance of happening because I like the discussion it creates, that's all. If you don't think it's worthwhile to discuss then why bother engaging? Just move onto another topic.

Because one can play forward, an area of weakness and one cannot.
Petracca's the worst shot for goal in the entire afl over the last 3 years, statistically. I personally don't want petracca in the forward line. Putting that aside, your statement disregards the fact that Oliver is a much better pure mid than Trac. Oliver is a 2 time coaches votes winner. Trac isn't and never will be. Tracs kicking is worse than Oliver's.

Also, Oliver could play forward. His defensive pressure would be much better also.

You are to focussed on individual accolades and missing the big picture which is team premierships.

Doesn’t change anything if Oliver wins 10 bnF, brownlows and AAs if we don’t win flags for all I care.
fair call. Oliver helped us win a flag. in fact, he kicked the sealer. Don't overreact to a 7 point loss to the likely premiers just because we couldn't kick straight for goal.

Club said they love him and is a required player. You’re grasping at straws if you think that if the exact same quote wasn’t used as 2 years ago it has a completely different meaning.

It's not the exact same quote - and I reckon giving Oliver an extra 8 years might give you an insight too.

We're not in a rebuild mode though. We're likely to have 4 top 25 picks this year, we don't need to trade out an all-time great for even more picks.

if we traded out the best midfielder in the league (or top 3) for Ben King and picks. All of a sudden our midfield is a massive weakness and the ball will never get down there.

This place is so toxic these days. Not difficult to understand why only about six people bother posting.
Mute is your friend. And start conversation groups in your chat. You don't get roasted for having an opinion different to someone else. In several with Dees supporters who don't post on here anymore and in a few with blokes from other club boards. Healthy conversations about the game and each others clubs. One of the ex mods on here suggested it and it was a great idea.

I look forward to my invite. 😜

But honestly, I remember getting called a troll simply because I said I wanted to draft 5 key forwards. And with Ben Brown, Mcdonald and Schache all cooked and Jefferson not exactly giving us a stack of confidence I don't think it was too far off the mark. In 2 years when May is done, Petty will go back again losing another forward. And who knows with Joel Smiths body. Van Rooyen is still a bit off the pace but he should become a good player. But yeah, I'm a troll and now people want to trade Oliver to fix our forward line woes....

I'm staggered we didn't nab Koschitzle and Buku Khamis. I'd prefer both of them over Hawkins

Classic hyperbole. The ball seemed to get down there ok most weeks when Oliver was injured this year.

On a tangent though, pages and pages of angry back and forth over trading Oliver is pretty damn boring 🫤

Fair point, and even the ones suggesting it have said it's 0 chance of happening. Perhaps we should all move on?

So far it seems the only public rumours on incomings are McAdam and some pick swaps. Anyone heard any goss about other players we may be looking at? Backup ruck seems to have gone under the radar, we're pretty thin in that area now from a depth perspective. Do we just try for that ruck forward best 22 type, or do we look at a mature VFL type ruck for injury cover?

Tbf what else are we gonna talk about? Which 3rd rounder are we giving for McAdam and which 2nd are we getting for Grundy?

Yeah gotten absolutely nothing from the club in terms of potential trades.
