Mate I'm too tired to do this one again lol read some of the others posts. There's a multitude of options

Missed too many posts. Got banned for two weeks for going off on the Pies’ board about the Maynard tribunal let off. Very sensitive souls over there.

Anyway, if we had a crap draft/trade hand this year I’d be on board listening to radical trade ideas but we don’t. We should be able to add enough talent in key areas (and some youth) to contend again and that’s all you can really do. Put yourself in that top four and ride your injury luck.

We do need a mature key forward though. That’s a must. Still reckon Tom Lynch is our man there. Hawkins was a good suggestion by someone. I hope we are shaking a few trees behind the scenes.

Mate I'd have a bet theyll finish above us. Better defence, better forward line and plenty of midfield talent.

Better defence? C’mon TK you know that’s not true.

They’ll be a good competitive side in 2024 but I’d take that bet.

The "talk" was an anonymous text into SEN, don't think anyone bought in did they?
Yeah they had Sam Edmund look into it off the back of several texts. Did his due dilligance on it and said it landed like a thud. Club appears to not be interested in doing much at the trade table this year.

Or … the club is keeping cards close to its chest and have given Sam Edmund the boring party line. Why would they tell him more than sh1t all about what they’re doing privately?

Taylor, Perryman, Himmelburg, Buckley, Iden, Whitfield.

They are ****ing rock solid down back mate. From about round 10 they were a better side than us this year. They look like the Collingwood of 2022.

I think it's a fair assertion – our defensive system may be a touch better due to our gamestyle, but Taylor, Buckley, Idun, Whitfield, Perryman, Himmelberg and Ash is an awesome mix of two-way players down back.

Yeah it's pretty quiet so far - TBF though, next year is shaping as the big key forward shopping year.

Never know though, could end up similar to 2019 where we brought in Langdon (and Tommo...) and then got Jackson, Kozzy and Rivers in the draft. Gave us a really good injection in one offseason.

It's possible but if we were inquiring into anyone there has to be someone else on the phone: Players, managers, other clubs etc. The more people we talk to the more likely that information gets out and journos will hear about it.

For that reason it's unlikely we'd be involved in any of the players that are getting linked with other clubs. There may be some secret player we are after that hasn't been mentioned at all but there's no evidence to suggest that is the case.

I'm honestly not sure there's a better back 6 in the competition. Those guys outside of maybe Whitfield all can win one on ones. But then Whitfield is a ****ing gun HBF.

Nick Haynes and Phil Davis stopped getting games for them..thats our Lever and May. Like they are stocked.

I'd be okay with us attacking the draft except for one aspect that is our forwardline being stuffed if either Petty or JVR go down. It's a lot of faith to put on Petty to maintain a decent level of form and JVR taking the next step and neither of them getting injured which I think is pretty brave.

Doesn't matter if Petty gets injured really, we just need him fit for September.

Yep – they can all win one-on-ones, but are also capable of damaging the opposition going back the other way through their footskills and run.

They have such a balanced list now – for a long time, they were a bit too top-heavy with young gun mids, leading to them being exposed in other parts of the ground. Not anymore – great mix of skills, pace, contested ability and defence all across the ground.

Don’t get me wrong I’m bullish on them too. If you remember I was saying $51 was juicy flag odds on them 6 weeks ago. All those high draft picks were bound to gel at some point.

I just think our group is more seasoned, mature and capable of winning a flag in 2024. They don’t have Steven May who simply is the best fullback in the comp. Him and Max for me give us points of difference which put us over the top.

We just need a key forward and a bit of outside run.

I reckon getting rid of Taranto and Hopper has made them a much better team. Kingsley being a bold coach is also a factor. Something Goody isn't.

Mate I love Steven May, Sam Taylor is a bloody star mate and they have it on every line. They don't have any weaknesses. I even liked watching Hogan in that prelim such was his buy in. I reckon they'll walk top 4 next year.

I mean it's a lot of faith to put in a bloke who has done his lisfranc and coming back and being the same player. Having an option like Chol or Koschitzke would have been perfect affordable pick ups even if they just ended up being depth.

Yeah it's a worry, Jeffo is a long way off. For mine, I'm happy to try and get a depth forward/ruck for now and then have a crack at any of Naughton, King or Marshall next year when all are out of contract. Obviously better to get something good now, but have to be realistic about whats available this year, which at this stage looks like not much.

Yep they spent too long investing in high picks and thinking they needed superstars for the new formed superstar league

Then they quietly went out and got Idun, Taylor, Hogan, Perryman, Bedford, Daniels etc and built a list that has everything

Absolutely it has. Made out like bandits in those deals (both in terms of compo and cap space freed up). Green, Kelly, Cogs, Ward, Callaghan is a much better mix.

I guess so but if aren't good enough to win it without Petty, do Chol or Koschitzke win it for us?

If it means I don't have to watch the ghost of Tom McDonald, sign me up haha
