Nope

A reporter opined that the saints are one paced and need some cream but Dow would be a better option.

"The Saints are also set to land Fremantle winger Liam Henry and Carlton on-baller Paddy Dow, which makes their interest in Shiel more curious."

So, reporting that they're into Dow.

"“But isn’t that what they’re getting Paddy Dow for?”"

...and that they don't need Shiel.

Opining they don’t need Shiel. It’s semantics but an important distinction.

They are reporting the saints interest in Dow

Clubs cannot trade a selection in one deal then trade it back with another, but Gresham could move to the Dons as a free agent, which would create a draft pick.

Then St Kilda could trade a later pick back to Essendon for Shiel, who turns 31 in March.

St Kilda would not be allowed to top up Gresham’s salary to ensure they secured first-round compensation.

But Essendon would be allowed to pay some of Shiel’s deal while he played at St Kilda given an explosion of clubs trading players then paying some of their remaining wage.

So while there are hurdles to jump — and probing questions to be asked if the deal proceeds — there is a way for it to eventuate.

And?

This is why Sydney traded out of the first round with one set of picks and got a different set back after matching for Blakey.

It has nothing to do with Gresham, because Gresham is not being traded.

Only the second part of that sentence is relevant

Then St Kilda could trade a later pick back to Essendon for Shiel,
I'm sure this is the part that's got you excited. The "later" pick bit.

Let's just wait until next week. A deal is on, both groups of supporters want Pick 13, we get it.

Are there bomber fans invading the saints board with horseshit? Or is this a one way street of dickheadery?

OK so let's be clear opposition fans.

This isn't the trade board, or the main board, this is the Essendon board.

As mods we have just about had enough of dealing with opposition posters coming in here to tell us what's what, or troll react to posts, or dump articles and run, etc...

Final warning. Thread/board bans and Infractions will ensue from this point on.

We overpay for Gresham they give us that pick. We pay a lot of shiels salary next year and they get him for free.
It’s either Gresham for a 3rd round pick
Or Gresham for shiel
This is the only situation that makes sense for me. To get the pick back we would have to be paying at least $250k of Shiel's money. Otherwise it makes no sense for the Saints to do it and despite Ralph and co talking about removing Shie'ls salary from our books we really do not need to .

I'm curious what will happen. It'd be good if we worked out some deal so we got Gresham and a first round pick, just because we're overpaying Gresham.

However I'm not sure why we'd play funny buggers with salaries just to give the Saints pick 13, that doesn't sound of any advantage to us. We may as well just offer Gresham less money and hold onto Shiel, he's only got one more year on his contract.

And Saints fans don't seem to understand that we don't need to free up Shiel's salary from the cap. We have 2 mill unused as it is (before McKay). It's the list spot that'd be handy if we release Shiel.

The first humans were incredibly intelligent. They invented tools, housing, commerce and communities.

Your lot don't even know how to make finals, let alone win one

I know you won't be able to reply, but it's funny how a St Kilda supporter thinks he can lecture anyone on finals
