Ridiculously good trade!

Who did Brisbane get when we traded Beams back here?
A couple of first round picks, one of which would have been eaten to match a bid on Quaynor. 2018 they kept, but Smith didn’t play any games. 2019 was on traded to Port who took Georgiades for Port’s 2020 first, that was then on traded to the dees. Not sure where that ended up, possibly eaten for academy points??

Late to the party but only just got home…wow what a day! Definitely the best day of my life. The way we won was typical Collingwood, stay in front and control the game. Then when Brisbane did get in front, Jordy went beast mode and got it straight back. We deserved that so much. Not just today, but over the season. Best team all year and we did it on the last day playing Fly ball.

Love the players, love Fly, love the club, but most of all love the supporters. Thanks for making this win as good as I’d imagine it would be. My first true win as an adult (only 17 in 2010) and it was everything I imagined and more. So thank you. And Go Pies!!! 🖤🤍

How’ve bloody great was our tackling in the last quarter, haven’t seen us tackle with such ferocity for that long before and if one didn’t stick another tackler pounced

We might never see another season like this. Absolute perfection from Anzac Day to the Port game, to three of the most clutch finals of all time. I still don't believe this is real. The curse is lifted. The team is immortalised. The club is refreshed. The universe is right. I love you all. Goodnight

As I mentioned in the pregame thread we needed to find goals today from a few more of our unlikely sources and thankfully we got just enough.

Sidebottom only 3 goals for the season kicked a stunner in the last, Crisp 8 goals before today kicked 2 of the best, while old man Pendlebury also only nailed a crucial goal after also saluting just 8 times coming into the GF.

The Brisbane forwards contributed 10 of their 13 by my calculations.

Our forwards 5 of 12.

They had the better forward group but we were the better team overall and one of our individual forwards was so good they won the Normie.

Just a word to David King......Kingy, a couple of months back, you told the world that the Pies were definitely going to win the premiership. He said that the AFL could stop the competition then and there, because the Pies were a certainty for the flag...

As time progressed, you lost a little confidence in your own judgement and started to get shakey on your pronouncement. You began to favour other teams in the race to the flag and ended up selecting Brisbane to win on grand final day....

And so the lesson for the aspiring expert is to have confidence in your own opinions. Dont second guess yourself. Stick to your guns and most importantly, stick with the Pies.
Astute observation and one we should call him out on. I've listened to Whatelely and King every week and was shocked by his taking the 🦁 in the GF.

Time to make him stand tall on the carpet and explain why he didn't have the cojones to stay with our boys through the end.

That having been said, watching the Grand Final here in the USA 🇺🇸 with my daughter donning my throwback Graham Wright #19 jersey, and I an ancient training short sleeves Magpies shirt, we held on 'til about 1 AM our time in Arizona to witness and experience all of the same feelings and emotions expressed in this thread. To have the match unfold, the way it did, was the only possible way it could plausibly play out. Play the minutes, play the moments, play down to the lowest possible time denominator. Win or lose, that is the footprint of a McRae coached Collingwood Football Club and it paid off yesterday. What a magnificent team effort, with spots of individual brilliant play, against a gallant, worthy opponent in a match where there were no losers, but only one team could win.

My daughter and I have been official members since 2016 and we are both proud to be a part of this magnificent entity which is our club. To win our 16th was the greatest achievement in the 40 years I've followed the Magpies here in the USA.

I won't add anything about the players as each of you have summed up my thoughts, in one way or another. But I knew our club was going to change for the better the moment Graham Wright was hired as the GM. I loved Wrighty in his playing days and he was an important cog in that 1990 Premiership Club. His managerial expertise, over the years, is evident at every stop he made en route to his current role. Yesterday's Premiership victory was the culmination of his brilliant strokes of genius in rebuilding the Operations of the Collingwood Football Club. I am grateful for every player, coach, assistant and staff member, but it all started with the GM and his strategy. Thank you, Graham Wright!

Peace!

To be honest, Pies in the GF played like their old self.... very similar form to when King made that prediction. 28 shots at goal, 5 or more different goal kickers... while having elite tackling and defense.
Then from round 16 onwards the Pies changed gears.... the stats showed they went down in a few key indicators.

The Pies basically.... changed their style to save their best when needed. Injuries also happened. King obviously discounted this and just looked at the stats.

in the finals, Pies had different strategies for their opponents. Against Melbourne, they reinforced the back line and ensure they withstood the Melbourne rebound and threw sneaky goals when they could get out.... but without compromising their defensive wall.

Against GWS, Pies had to play a more balanced approach but they defended from the middle all the way back and slowed the game down against a high potent GWS attack and defense. GWS statistically looked like a premiership team in the last 6 weeks or so of the season.

Then against Lions, the Pies focused on attack right off the centre bounce.... they knew Lions weakness was their defense.... which was still good, but Pies had 28 scoring shots and Pies took their chances from 50m marks and went for the goals (and paid off).

Pies were playing chess... sadly the stats doesnt show this.... so thats why commentators like King changed their tune. McCrae, Leppitch master stroke coaching.

I don't normally post on this board. I have lurked and liked posts over the years and just wanted an outlet to express gratitude. In many of the darkest moments of my life this club and the games this team played helped me so much.. win, lose or draw.. words can't describe it.

Let's celebrate hard.. No doubt tears are flowing and so are the beers.

We are finally united as a supporter base and club again.

Carn the mighty pies!!
