Hill and AJ have that X Factor that I don't see with Sarge (Schultz).
I can remember seeing AJ flying for a mark at Port and hitting the ground, back up, picked up the ball the kicked the goal before his defender knew where he was.
Hill's mark in the GF was another great example.
I still would be taking Hill and Billy before Sarge - but hey I am not a CFC coach or selector.
But Billy, unfortunately, won't be around forever. 2024 could be his last year. And I'm guessing he'll be managed a bit more next year as well.

Yep.
Bell seemingly takes a (short term) hard line on player contracts as well given the number of Freo players leaving in recent years.
Given the noise around Hawkins' contract, sounds like Mackie may end up losing a few players soon enough...
Starting next year when Jhye Clark requests a trade to us.

All elite or above average and people are complaining about giving up a low 20’s pick. I live in WA so watch a lot of freo games. Hes very very good

I haven't seen much but I posted earlier his 2023 stats are in the ballpark of:
Rankine (pick 3, then traded pick 5 + late trades)
Bailey (pick 15)
Papley (rookie but Carlton offered pick 9)
Pickett (pick 12)
Weightman (pick 15)

Could argue a premium given he's a known quantity & development years are done, or a discount given he's 26 soon, but it's in the ballpark.

Bit harsh on Dean no?

We've literally never actually seen him play. Essentially at any level.

If anything, reports from his ONE VFL game in 2 seasons at Collingwood was that he was actually pretty decent.
Potentially Harsh on Dean yes, but it’s also kinda the reality for mine, he’s been on the list for 2 years and played 3 VFL games. Until he shows that his body can stand up I’ll consider him a non factor not to mention the step up from playing on VFL level KPF to AFL level KPF.

We’re win now, and the initial premise was worrying for Murphy, it would make me very nervous doing a full season with Frampton and Dean as our back ups

Can't see what people see in Schultz that makes him so valuable to give 2 first round picks... Even anything more than a 1st round pick.
Saw his highlights, and i am underwhelmed. Will he improve our side? Probably.

But how does he compare with "Norm Smith" Hill, a 22 year-old (The Giants trade Hill and its round-three selection (pick No.40) to Collingwood for its round-three selection (43) and its future second-round selection) - Effectively less than pick 39 in this year's draft.
Or McStay - 27 YO, signed a 5 year contract at circa $600k - (Brisbane got compensation pick 35).

Certainly not worth 2 first round picks. Probably worth a second round pick in compensation next year to Freo, so our 1st this year would more than cover it.
Is anyone saying he is worth 2x 1st round picks?

Imagine being a young gun player interstate and wanting to come home. Lots of clubs making offers and you have a tough decision to make. You may also want your existing club to be properly compensated as you're not a prick.

Then your manager says to you, Geelong will be difficult in getting a trade done as they will fight to win the trade.

Winning trades may hurt you in the long run

Haha. Pick 14 for gresham. Schultz is twice the player. What a deal for the saints ffs

Dockers target future Pies pick

The Herald Sun is reporting the Dockers are targeting Collingwood’s future first-round pick to get the Lachie Schultz deal done.
The Pies are prepared to offer pick 19 in this year’s draft but the Dockers hope the Pies will suffer a premiership hangover next year and slide down the ladder and up the draft order

This draft is laughingly compromised. Get out of it whilst we can

Next years is too:
  • Levi Ashcroft Bris F&S Top 5
  • Tyler Welsh Adel F&S Top 10
  • Leonardo Lombard GCA Top 20
  • Samuel Marshall BLA Top 20
  • Lucas Camporeale CAR F&S Top 20
  • Ben Camporeale CAR F&S Top 20
  • Any Free Agent compo
  • West Coast priority assistance?

I'd be taking it off the table because I'd be expecting us to be in the trade market again next year due to the age of our list and us likely to be near the pointy end again. We'll need to have our first round picks intact if we want to target a gun.

We may end up dealing our 2023 1st and 2024 2nd for Schultz and their 2024 3rd. With likely ladder finishes, it won’t be that big of a slide back in 2024 but it’ll give them some more ammo.

Well perhaps we risk our future first this year. If we play finals and it's as compromised as that, it's pick 20 anyway. Ridiculous that six players will see picks pushed out. Whoever wins the premiership won't be drafting at pick 18 - it'll be pick 24 minimum, probably closer to 26 by the time FA begins.

Academies, like draft zones, have failed. F/S needs to be changed immediately.

Freo games aren't exactly must watch for me, so when his name came up I had him pegged as Lochie Owies, but now that he's transformed into Lochie Papley sounds good.

Could somebody enlighten me.As I understand Lachie Schultz because he has been delisted would be a UFA if he came out of contract this year,so when he comes out of contract next year will he automatically become a UFA because of his former delisting? If he he is eligble for UFA status then Freo should take the 1st rounder Collingwood is offering and run, because next year they get nothing.

That's all true but they will get compensation next year if he leaves. So they're probably hoping his value explodes and they'll get pointy-end compensation.
