Watching the trade period and seeing some deals fall through because of a few spots in the draft order reminds me of a saying my grandfather had, “deals don’t fall apart over dollars, but cents”

In the case of some on here, Mackie and Dodoro sense would be more apt!

Not only that, but the assessment is garbage as well. Schultz is a better player than both Hill and McStay. He’d sit alongside Mihocek and Elliott as our most impactful forward in 2024 because of the totality of his game.

I think the Schultz vs Hill comparison is debatable. On paper Schultz is superior, but Hill has that ability to some special things that I don’t think Schultz is capable of either, with super high impact per possession and those sort of intangibles narrow the gap considerably. Something clicked with Hill later in the year too, culminating in that GF performance, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he builds off that next year too. I think he could be regarded as in of our top handful of players next year.

Esava, Howard and Billings are all much worse at football than Schultz

Much worse is a stretch, no way he is worth 2 first rounders, Esva & Howard would be more of a need than another small forward.

I think he has the scope to be the equal of Cameron, but he doesn’t get the goals out the back yet for that to be a serious discussion. The reason I have Schultz ahead though is consistency. A Hill poor game and he’s invisible whereas a Schultz poor game and he’s up and back up and back tipping in with his workrate meaning he finds the ball. Right now I’m only prepared to comment on what I know and not what wouldn’t surprise me next year.

FWIW I clearly rate him, but I’m in the camp of no future 1st. The suggestion of trading a future 2nd or 3rd for a pick in this draft or whatever to lock it away is intriguing, but it gives me the icks too much because it feels like what Mackie would do. I’d push 19 and make it clear that we’d need the Henry pick and a future 2nd to come to the table on trading our 2024 1st.

I think Schultz will have this area covered, averaging about 4 tackles I50 this year which is the same as Adams but mind you not all of those from Adams would have been I50 tackles so Schultz is probably better suited for that specific role.

If Sweet can’t be traded to Port, I’d consider us targeting him. He’d compete with Cameron for a spot easily.

Hill and AJ have that X Factor that I don't see with Sarge (Schultz).
I can remember seeing AJ flying for a mark at Port and hitting the ground, back up, picked up the ball the kicked the goal before his defender knew where he was.
Hill's mark in the GF was another great example.
I still would be taking Hill and Billy before Sarge - but hey I am not a CFC coach or selector.

Agree, I don't think people understand that we don't need to draft anyone this year so what do the picks themselves matter to us other than to use as currency to better our team in the now

Precisely. Schultz does most of everything better in the fwd half

Not overly excited about Shultz, would be even more disappointed if we give 1st & 2nd picks. Hey Freo, take 19 or 33 and * off or keep the Umpa lumpa.

Rather a crack at Esva or Howard or even get Billings cheap.

Lauchie Schultz would be an amazing pick up for us. The combination of him, Elliott, Hill and Mccreery will give us insane forward line pressure and serious scoring power.
He's worth more than pick 19, given his talent level, age, he's still under contract, and the fact Collingwood is trying to avoid a bidding war next year for his services when he out of contract.

Bell seemingly takes a (short term) hard line on player contracts as well given the number of Freo players leaving in recent years.
Given the noise around Hawkins' contract, sounds like Mackie may end up losing a few players soon enough...

He's fills the exact role Taylor leaves but doesn't take up a spot in the midfield. Throw in a third rounder too for all I care but we will need this guy if we want to go back to back
